F900GS Initial impressions

A quick spin on the new BMW F900GS. I am in the market for a new middleweight ADV bike. With the Desert X my preferred choice, I had to get a ride on this before making a decision. This is a big enduro bike, I like the direction BMW have taken this bike, firm, sporty and would really annoy some people in the twisties. The lack of pillion space and tall seat height makes BMW's intentions clear.

This popped up as a new video but I watched it last night. then I noticed that it now has chapters. Anyway, good vid.
@mjpt57 I had to upload again. The quality wasn't good
Welcome back mate. I had the same injury and learning. Had to ditch my "adventure" boots and get MX boots on top of making sure I stop if I need to take my attention from the road. As you said it only takes a second for Murphy to pay a visit 😁
@@advau5363 sound advice mate👌
smart to revert to MX boots. big thumbs up!
@@jank-official lesson learnt
gaz slowed down for a dip.. wtf doesnt he just send it through them... :P
@jeffandrews8578 old bones!
Obviously you are bored
@@BigBopper069 very much so!
Great to see you back on the bike.
@mjpt57 thanks mate, it's good to be back, even if it's at a limited capacity 👌
Mate, it's good to see your on the path to a full recovery. I think those self inflicted injuries on a bike are the worse to feel. I know that in my own case, when I fractured my wrist coming off the bike a while back, and it was entirely preventable. You certainly "live and learn" out of an experience like that. You'll probably be back in Tassie with the boys in a year, and by then it will all be a distant memory.
Yeah mate, definitely a "live and learn" moment! Cheers.
Ouch man! Hope that you get back to 100% ASAP mate. Good to see you out and about. Stay upright 🙂
Thanks mate, it was good to be back on two wheels.
I got the 2022 Xr and Im wondering if its worth the upgrade 🤔
Luggage options are limited but it is a fantastic machine. The S1000XR is amazing all round, tough call, but a great problem to have🤷
Solid effort, riding out 😬
Was not the most pleasant experience I have had 😂
Damn, sorry to hear about your ankle - tough break so to speak. Please recover well as I like your channel Would like to ask, would you mind if I joined your rides of this type? I ride a Pan Am (reasonable rider - been to Mt Terrible already fully loaded) so these types of rides are good for the bike girl.
@Skuffy1969 thanks for the kind words 👍. Solid effort Mt Terrible fully loaded 👏. Welcome to join in on a ride mate. I'll keep you in the loop on future events. Cheers, Shan.
@@THENKDRCR Thank you. Looking forward to joining you AFTER you recover. I am Geelong based.

Ah mate, that’s a shame, did something similar a few years back up that way and broke a couple bones in my foot. Hope it heals quick mate!
@AusMoto thanks mate, very frustrating indeed.
haha, great comment, "harden da fk up" awaiting mine Feb 25, can't freaking wait!!! nice vid, cheers
Thanks mate, I had a 3 month wait, but it's worth it 👌
Well done keeping going, leaving the boot on was the right call when youre still mobile.
@@rik3849 yup and the whole hassle of getting the bike recovered was motivation enough to spur me on 👍
Where did you get treated then, if the Mansfield Equine Centre couldn't help????
@@mjpt57 LRH
Bloody bad luck mate, sorry to hear it. I broke my foot in a nothing fall too up at Craig's Hut car park so I know how you feel. I wish you a quick recovery and hope to see you on the trails one day.
Thanks mate 👍 much appreciated.
Im interest to know what you're thoughts are on the karoo 4 now & how many klm you got on them.
@billweegink27 they're great on the road good on the gravel but average on hard pack wet tracks. I will throw the rear out soon at about 3500km but im pretty hard on tyres
@THENKDRCR . Yeah well I hear the 900 GS goes pretty hard. I'm undecided weather to go down the Nobby route as I still do a bit of black top as well. (GS1250) Maybe next winter 🤔 Thanks for your response 👍
Are those the hepco and becker crash guards? I am currently looking at the few options that are offered for my gs 900f its nice to actually see it on the bike, moving around rather than just a picture, ride safe
@zackgifford831 sure are mate 👍
You win Lotto or something? If so, where's my Panagale? And there's something wrong with the bike's dash. Keeps going all blurry for some reason... 🙂
@@mjpt57 friends in high places 😂 I told them the dash was hard to read
@@THENKDRCR Yeah, realised that when you commented on this at the end of the vid. And yes, it really is a nice looking bit of gear. What would it be like for overnighters?
@mjpt57 you could ride this all day long. Doesn't take panniers like the S1000XR but would take a top bag.
@@THENKDRCR yeah, I guess that there are a lot of luggage setups that could be used. Andy Strapz, for example, makes a good range of quality luggage. I guess that my $70 RJays throwover panniers (got them from Bobber Daves for the Jindy trip) would do, too.
Nice mate, a beautiful looking bike!
@@AusMoto looks awesome in the competition black imo 👌 😍
Great work on the videos mate. Being a local it's nice to get a sneak peak at some new places to ride. I did Mount Useful,Licola yesterday & many other roads you've mentioned. I also like that you post a map & mention the roads your on,klm & times. So thanks for all that. I'm loving the adventure style riding. Great work 😉👍
@billweegink27 happy to help, thanks for taking the time to comment, maybe see you on the tracks 1 day 👍
Your economy is bad because of the way you ride. Hero!
@T.J-and-Soul thanks for the tip champ 👍
@THENKDRCR you are obviously a new rider, you aren't on a moto cross track. Calm down mate.
I’ve just watched a video that was 30 mins long just to take the Ducati Desert X apart to do the same job. This was so quick and easy 👍
@MarkN67 that was one of the main reasons I didn't go with the Desert X, ticked all the boxes apart from that.
The weather gods were on your side!
@@gippslandmotorcycleclub certainly was 😘
Nice one mate, that view from Pinnacles is great!
Thanks, We really lucked in with the weather 👌
@@THENKDRCR yeah, last time I was there it was cloudy as haha
@@AusMoto That sucks but its pretty common 😫
How comfortable and confident it is to tie a roll bag (40L) at the pillion part off seat and ride the bike on the road?
I have no concerns offroad or on loaded up like that

i cant believe the fuel range isn't better i have an ktm 640 adventure 29 ltr tank when im flogging it i get 450 k's when im carful im getting 500k's i would love to know what the adventure one is getting.
@shannonhumphry2180 I deliberately ran out of fuel and got 265km out of it. Road mapping with a mix of road/offtoad. Not ideal, but I knew what I was getting in to, I carry an 8lt Giant Loop Bladder for longer trips.
Hello. Are you happy with the crash bars? There doesn't seem to be much choice anyway.

I’m sure it was mentioned on my instructions you won’t need it if your up the front anyway
Did it say to put some filter grease around the black uni filter cage
There is no mention of grease in the instructions, but I am considering it!
Great video mate, thanks for sharing. What were the tracks you used on the way to Walhalla?
5 ways, Cowwarr rd, Bruntons Bridge rd and Happy Go Lucky!
I was always mindful of four wheel drives barrelling along that road. Keep your head on a swivel, especially on blind corners. Great video 😊👍
