STOP Aiming Wrong! How Spin Changes Your Shot!
Mastering extreme spin isn’t just about cue ball control-it’s about understanding how spin, deflection, and cue arc work together over longer distances. 🎱
In this video, I break down:
✅ How spin makes the cue ball arc off the perfect tangent line before returning to center upon contact.
✅ Why spin causes deflection and how the cue ball shifts off the center line when applying side spin.
✅ The difference between cues - carbon fiber cues reduce deflection, while traditional cues require more aiming adjustments.
If you’ve ever been confused by how spin affects the cue ball’s path, this video will clear it all up!
Let me know in the comments-what cue do you use, and how does it affect your game? 👇

What cue shaft do you prefer and why? Carbon or Wooden?
Mezz ignite wavy joint 12.2 carbon. Northern Canada's climate is bipolar and it's key to have constant equipment
@ great point about the climate as that can definitely cause problems with wooden shafts for sure
Great show guys, special thanks to Mr souquet. One of the biggest hearts and talents in the game ever. The cues look beautiful and excited to get my hands on one of the tips. I'm especially particular about my tips. Like most we are all searching for the soft feel but keeps it shape. Aka the Holy Grail. Keep up the great work gents..
Thanks for the kind words. Ralf truly is one of the great Gent's of the game, really nice guy too. We'll be getting hold of a few of the tips soon and working out the best way to give a few away. I'm keen to try one myself too as like you say a tip that stays it's shape consistently is a rare thing and the holy grail.
Great Video! Could you possibly make a video of how to adjust your aim when adding spin/english to your cue ball? I seem to struggle aiming correctly when adding spin to my shots so an explanation in a video would be quite helpful!
Great idea, I will have a look at this for my next video. It will be tricky though as there's no magical answer. Low deflection shafts changed the game slightly in regard to this. I'll definitely come up with something for this next though!
There can be only one……
I do this all the time and agree you need to find that sweet spot between hitting the right angle with the right speed on the cue ball. Comes with practice.
Yeah definitely…. Sho’nuff lol

Attention bottle spinners! Go BIG or go home 😂
Cool shot 👊
Thanks, did you see my other attempt lol 😂 also did you want to have a go at a dual livestream drill takedown at some point?
@ yeah I saw the other one where you where taking the mickey on the spin the bottle shot😂. To be honest, I have no idea how to do a dual livestream. I still have a lot to learn as youtuber
You can just use the latest version of the UA-cam mobile app. Then I can email you a link. When you open the link on your phone it will bring you into my live stream at the same time as me. Drop me an email if you want to schedule something in ❤️
😂
Lol Honestly, it just wouldn’t stop spinning for some reason.
Guys I’m still waiting for it to stop spinning 😂
It's the opposite of the Australian guy😂
Oh him lol… did you see my other attempt here 🔥MUST SEE Bottle Spin ua-cam.com/users/shortsTU3rL5ROrVU?feature=share
@darkSIDEpool yeah lol
You don't show where to strike the cue ball or how much flow through. It seems your assuming people know how to do a stop shot.
Apologies, good point. I wanted to keep this video short and snappy but I have updated the description to reflect how to play it. But for those wondering, playing a perfect stop shot will rely on the distance the cue ball is from the object ball. If it's further away you will either have to hit it with more draw (below centre) or firmer, or sometimes a combination of both... Be confident with the follow through stroke and don't decelerate. Remember this isn't a stun shot, you may be able to achieve a kind of stop shot with a firm stun shot but that is a different shot altogether. This shot is to help players get a feel for where there may be some inconsistencies in their aim or cue action etc....
Yeah that close , shots like this your skill has to create the luck , back to spin the bottle which I really enjoy. Sorry you get bored with it but it is what monetized me on tiktok and UA-cam
I didn’t mean to be offensive, I meant from a personal point of view if I was trying to do them I would 😀 I’d be interested to know how much time some of them take for you to make them. I was at a drill 3 hours straight once before I managed to do it
@darkSIDEpool oh yeah no worries. Sorry if I came off like you were offensive by no means... Spinning the bottle 3 hours would yield me at least 20 to 25 shorts editing, uploading and all. The average length is 25 seconds, I put three of those together on tiktok. That's what I get paid for over there and then I either do a all shorts on UA-cam or put them together in a 3-minute video
Cool I’m going to do my own spin the bottle video when I get around to it. I’ll tag you in when I do. I also get a lot of fun out the UA-cam live streams have you ever tried those yet?
@darkSIDEpool I have not, but I plan to this year at some point when I get enough time. I usually don't spend over 45 minutes to an hour a day on this at a time editing and all
@spike1234 cool if you want any tips on the best way to do it just drop me an email as I’ve picked up a few key things doing them over the months. Also up for a dual live stream at some point if you wanted to have a few top players lined up already when they can get the time out their schedules
Nice drill 🎱👍 by the way, I just subbed. I'll check in on you every once in awhile... About to go do some tricks.. tricks are my passion now. Everyone should make their passion a habit.. Cheers !
Thanks. I’ll checkout your trick shots later and see if I can pull a few off. Love doing the drills though as a lot of them require hardly no margin of error on the position front.
@darkSIDEpool understood, That's why my favorite trick of recent is spin the bottle , nothing preset, challenges the imagination because I'm looking for the Epic hardest shot for each scenario most of the time, I'm always looking for that five rail kick or Bank setup after the bottle spin
I do like these type of shots but see a lot of people doing them now. Not sure who was the first to come up with it lol. Some of the shots must take a while to get though and I’d get bored I think after a while lol. I like to do this one though. ua-cam.com/users/shortsfJL4y0rFWpU?si=f4QIu3ZSZbWpWeyb I think my table is too slow though to make it in 2
Thank you for that. I do have a question that i can't find an answer for. Nobody ever talks about it. Where exactly does the cue go in relation to your eyes? For me, I'm right-handed, but shoot left-handed,... and I'm left eye dominant. Should my cue go directly under my nose, my eye, or maybe between the two?
Eye dominance does tend to influence the way you stand so it makes sense that if you are left eye dominant you play left handed. I’m right and right. However, there is no golden rule, if a player has an unorthodox approach to striking the cue ball if it works for them that’s fine. The most important thing for me is potting balls consistently and making that cue ball go where I want it to go. Practice of this shot on a regular basis can help a player to fine tune their approach due to the various different issues it may bring up. That’s why it’s such a good shot to train with. If you can get it 5 times in a row nicely your on the right track to success even if you may stand a little different or cue different to other players. A million dollar cue action doesn’t generate a million dollar bank account if you’re still missing shots.
Very interesting tip, that last one...I'll be giving it a go. Another thought on breathing: I wonder whether it is better to breathe in or out when actually taking the shot. Is is like, for example, martial arts, where one breathes out while striking out at an opponent? I've been doing some unscientific A/B testing ie breathein/breathe out while taking shot... No clear results yet
For me in or out doesn't matter so much if I hold it in or when out, what does matter is the fact that it's consistent for me. Nothing can be more natural and consistent as breathing lol... It's more or a pause really, I don't do a deep breath or anything like that, I simply just pause my breathing for a couple of seconds. If you build it into your pre-shot routine it can really be a great way of telling your subconscious mind it's ready to make that all important winning shot! Give it some practice and let me know if it helps you as it helps me?
This man watched my pool and he said I've still got a lot to learn
Stroking your way to the top…
Nice, I will definitely try this but what is the best way to actually play the stop shot in regards to tip position?
Thanks, each time you want to play a stop shot it will depend on a few things. Distance, cloth speed etc. Further away from the object ball you may need to either strike it lower and firmer. Have a play around and you’ll get the feel of it in no time. Try and hit 5 perfect stop shots in a row then start changing the distance and vary the spin and stroke speed. A stop shot can also be very useful for safety play if you are trying to kill the cue ball behind another ball.
I don't it it's not that hard I am a junior professional
Nice. Don’t be afraid to get it on video and tag us in 💪
I stroke it straight alright…
lol 😂
This shot is such a great way to learn where you're currently at in your GAME! Who's up for getting it 5 times in a row Perfectly! Get it on Video and TAG us In GUYS!
Harder than it looks, also had a brand new tip on too 😂
question about shooting softer. Isn't that in effect allowing the cue ball time to begin rolling forward, so in effect it's like playing the shot with top ? I'm only a mid level player, so not a rhetorical question.
In essence for some shots yes that is correct. Especially true for the last example in the video where I exaggerated the effect even more by using low running English. In the first example with the obvious in off in the corner the slower shot works better because there is less throw of the cue ball. Hitting a ball harder at an object ball will always have more throw if the shot is an angular shot. Take a thin cut shot into the side pocket for example. If you hit it harder the cue ball will follow the tangent line more but softer lets you cheat it.
@darkSIDEpool thanks for the explanation. I'm working hard on understanding tangent line with different speeds/top/bottom/skid etc... this helps
Thanks, just set up the first shot like I did then play around with the different stroke speeds and spin types and you’ll get the hang of it in no time
Hey pal happy new year! Thanks as always for your pool knowledge. I just emailed you a question about cloth I'm looking to get for my table. Cheers
Thanks and you too! I’ve sent you an email regarding the cloth.
@darkSIDEpool i rewashed a few matches ultimate pool USA. The Brunswick table pockets look large, but the valley coin operated style tables they played on at the Kansas city open were 4" and the commentators mention at the Louisville open that they are even running classes for officiating!
When your playing by yourself and have to call your own "what a shot" 😂
It was actually on one of our live streams this so I was talking to the people watching but thanks anyway…
nice drill. Try it on a snooker table next time😊
It’s on my to do list
@darkSIDEpool ❤️
That was great!
Give it a try mate…
You need to aim AND have a true stroke, the helmet CANT fix stroke … !
Wow this looks like a professional commercial 👌
lol something a bit different for a change :)
when you live stream, you should allow people to rewind. bc when i jump in the middle of one of your sessions, i sometimes want to go back and look at what you already did and how you did. or sometimes want to rewatch how you got position on the previous ball to get to where you are now. it's pretty frustrating
You should be able to go back already. You can watch the full video again after stream ends on replay too
@@darkSIDEpoolyeah I know but I'm talking about during the live stream. There's an option that allows you to rewind during the live stream. It would be great if you can but if you can't find it no big deal. Thanks for sharing
@@intercrew99 I'm sure you can do it if you tap on the screen and drag it back... I think you can do that from a PC during the live stream
@@darkSIDEpool thx
nice video
Thanks
Wow how much a game 🤑🫵🏽
How much you got 🦬🦬🦬
That was amazing!
Hey darkside pool, I have been playing pool for about a year now and have fallen in love with the game. I've been playing with my uncle's 30 year old Barracuda snooker cue and have been looking into finally upgrading to a proper pool cue. The meucci cue would be a perfect upgrade!
Auto aim 😂
Yeah just can’t miss with it
AR MODE ACTIVATED… never miss again
Can I ask what size is your table ? And what size room would you need for it ? Thank you
Table is full size 9x5 foot. Playing surface is about 100x50 inches. Just factor in your cue size plus another 12 inches or so on top of this and you should be fine.
You should also try the Appleton 3-balls all pockets drill found in his channel. Brutal one.
Daz in his prime on that one...Very tough drill. I'll definitely get it done though. Might try it tonight
@darkSIDEpool Did that one a bit year or more ago, never made it through. Best attempt i got was 5 pockets or so. Maybe ill try it again also.
Trust me Guys I genuinely could not see no more than a couple of inches past the object balls...My neck started to hurt after a while as it was so awkward to cue the balls like this lol..... What a shot on the 7 Ball though haha
Nice!
Thanks!
The 6-7 was money
Thanks, couldn't have hit it much sweeter lol
Did you do the cue guve away?
Sunday 1st Dec for the draw.
Hey mate
Next Sunday mate, I’ll be live again in an hour or so vs match with friend again
How far is rail ball from rail?
Are you talking about the 8 ball at the top of the table? If so ,doesn't really make much difference as long as it's a few inches or so from the rail.
very impressive.
Thanks
I am impressed. Thank you for posting
