    Anyone watching if you pull the plunger and replace bearings you need to adjust the plunger to spec. The rail on the left side of this 273 and many others adjusts and the hay knifes need to be shimmed properly to not hit. Good time to sharpen the knifes.

    So many years back we did the bearings on our 310 which is the bigger cousin to a 273. You can replace almost every bearing with the plunger in the machine. That side bearing that is all messed up rides on a track bolted to the side of the bale chamber. There is an access plate under the chain drive that lets you get to the bearing and the rail is threaded with machine bolts. Pulling the plunger can be a real bear particularly if you have a thrower on the machine like we did.

    I don't know much about the hay business, but I did have a summer job in the hay fields when I was younger, back in the early 70s. Probably most hottest and stickiest job I had. Seems a lot of money and equipment go into hay, mowers, rakes, tedders, balers, not to mention tractors, trailers/wagons, etc. I ran across this video and though it seems like it can destroy a bale of hay, it's interesting: ua-cam.com/video/1QOfz8GJtxU/v-deo.htmlsi=J0nHOF591H2dAxFx

      They're all about the same starting with the 268 and they run in sequence up to at least the 275 and then they jump to the 300's. But the mechanisms and size are basically all the same. Even the knotters on the brand new ones are the same as on mine. One thing I would look for is a 2 piece drive shaft so you can turn tighter. • @jerrylansbury9558
    @jerrylansbury9558 Рік тому

    At least you have the header weight adjusted near perfect. The spring above the wheel / tire nearest the wobble box must always be tighter because of the extra weight of the wobble box .....most times that spring must be as tight as possible...depending if you still have the shoes under the header. They add an extra 30 pounds. No need for the shoes....pick up rocks and trap gophers ...( if you have them ) . A sickle always cuts better close to the ground.....instead of 4 inches off the ground. The plant is more stiff the closer to the ground. It just snaps off.

    • @middleacres3616

    I used this haybine for years !!! I bought it and found that the spacers were still between the rolls when it was shipped. About 1/4 inch worth of spacers. They were suppose to be removed and only used for cutting oats. If you still have the spacers in....your still......basically cutting with a sickle mower. No crimping. Seen 8 haybines sold at local auctions. They all still had the spacers in. Poor farmers didnt even know.......they still had a sickle mower !!!! If you put a sheet of paper between the rolls you should not be able to pull it out. And put full pressure on the rolls by using the cranks behind the reel. Most Ive seen are rusted solid and the farmers never knew what they were for.....or they would have used them !

      @jerrylansbury9558 Рік тому

      @@middleacres3616 Yes..... most haybines were shipped with 1/4 inch worth of spacers between each end of the rolls. Later they bolted the spacers along side the frame next to the rolls. Often they are rusted in ! Might need to heat with a touch to get them out. Dealer told farmers that the rolls should not touch........but by far its more important to have the rolls timed right. The hay protects the rolls from wearing......but if you run the haybine empty for say.....10 minutes they might get a bit warm. That dont hurt them . I ran mine tight together for year.....never had any issues.

    Why take down and build a fence every few days? Permanent fencing with gates would seem to be the approach you're looking for. An alternative to flies is to take careful notes on which cows and which bulls have the most flies. If you cull the animals with the most flies, eventually you can have a herd with very few to zero flies. An alternative to poison ivy is goats. Poison ivy is goat candy.

      Paddock location and size changes from spring growth to summer slump to fall regrowth to winter hay feeding. The speed I move them also changes. I don't want to let them continuously graze their same favorite spots with no chance for recovery. Rotational grazing lets your pastures go farther per head. To do that with permanent fencing I'd have to build fifty 2 acre pens.

      It feeds the cut grass through a set of rollers that smashes it. This lets it dry faster supposedly by a day. With a tight weather window, saving a day is great. It also uses way less horsepower compared to a brush hog or a disc mower because the actual cutting mechanism is a sickle bar.
