The last and final dance in the Venom Trilogy...and it was alright. These "villain dressed as hero" movies have similar formulas so it didn't stray from that path .Tom Hardy is 100% the best part of it still but on the flip side venom was arguably at his worst? #venom3 #tomhardy #venomthelastdance #kellymarcel #moviereview #commentary #sony

    Nosferatu 2024 is a once in a generation film. I’m so glad that I was in the generation who got to experience it first. I am from the generation who also seen The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre at the theater, all be it as a little girl,when nobody cared about the effect that a movie might have on a child. I've watched this movie a few times now and I can't see Hugh\ Mr Reeds hair any wetter to get the bike lock at any time from when he greeted them at the door to the first room where he was talking about polygamy to the 2 rooms of belief and disbelief so that's a lie or wasn't shown on camera very well as his clothes didn't even seem damp show me his damp clothes and his wet hair>??? Also without the door interruption that was outside his control how would he have been able to perform his magic trick in the basement???? Nobody mentions this at all!!!!

    • @PrimeTimeScreams
      @PrimeTimeScreams Місяць тому

      @@mindfulclarity169 hmmm, I guess it’s subtle but when he came back from getting the bike lock there’s like very faintly 2 drops of water on his forehead so that part gets kind of explained. And for the magic trick part yea you’re right , it actually benefited him that someone knocked on the door. I guess based on how he had contingencies for everything, I’d imagine he had something already in mind to get them to be distracted so he could still do the magic trick. But I do love hearing peoples opinions/comments that aren’t mentioned too much, it brings more interpretation. 😊

    • @mindfulclarity169
      @mindfulclarity169 Місяць тому

      @@PrimeTimeScreams well if you were the director how else would you get the girls distracted and in time because he was just building up to it and then the doorbell rang which was so convenient for him because he had to get them to leave the room ie go upstairs cause how else could they not miss changing the bodies even their striking matches wouldn't be a good enough distraction because Paxton kept turning around. And yes a couple of drops wasn't good enough from these directors as Hitchcock said show the audience. If you can't clearly see it after 3 damn looks then it's not salient enough. I mean did you pick that up when u first saw it? I actually thought why didn't the church minister see their bikes and then I felt Reed had already taken them away?

    • @mindfulclarity169
      @mindfulclarity169 Місяць тому

      @@PrimeTimeScreams Also i don't mean to be rude to Hugh Grant but because his face and forehead have many wrinkles and a rougher landscape than Paxtons and Barnes you can clearly see Paxtons persp[eration when the music starts playing and her throat clearing etc but if Hugh grant did have a couple of drops on his forehead it was hard to see the contrast from a water drop to another ridge of his scaly wrinkles so the directors should of had his head dunked in water and then combed cause even if it was wetter alot of us may have thought it was cause his roof was actually leaking which also highlighted that water balance fountain ornament which also seemed to be activated by drops from the leaky ceiling? Also what was that lovely 1930s music playing on his record player when they went into the second room? It seemed so cosy out of the rain.?

    • @PrimeTimeScreams
      @PrimeTimeScreams Місяць тому

      @@mindfulclarity169 you make some good argument for sure, I wouldn’t know how else he would’ve gotten them distracted so it was sheer luck that it worked out in his favor. But honestly, I can forgive some plot convenience if it helps the story progress in a way that keep the entertainment high. I assumed that he had moved the bikes the moment the elder showed up to his front door cuz he couldn’t have gotten to the front door without noticing the bikes if they were there.

      100% agree with what you said. It's not the time or generation persay that makes the film "timeless," it's the plot, the characters, the hidden messages, etc. Overall, it was a great movie imo that will be remembered for quite a while. @@PrimeTimeScreams

    LASTLY 9) Arthur is always portrayed as the victim, pretty much. There isn't anything like the cluelessness and unwarranted behavior of Travis Bickle early in Taxi Driver, for example (the scenes in which Bickle takes his date to a porno and abrasively confronts her at her job, respectively). 10) I hate how there was talk of this film being independent of Batman, something to focus on the Joker exclusively. I took that to mean, erroneously, that there would be no Batman at all. And I thought that was fine and kinda cool; I don't see why superheroes must always be associated with their specific villain counterparts or environments. But Batman is here, albeit just as child Bruce Wayne. And rather than the Joker and Wayne crossing paths due to blind circumstance, they are made to be loosely connected instead, something Arthur discovers. Once again, no challenges at all involved here. I suppose it could be considered a novel thing to literally connect Wayne and the Joker before either become what they will eventually become. But I didn’t care for it at all. 11) You will sometimes see people speak of a certain film as "dated". However, the themes featured in Joker are actually more timely now. Yet oddly, Phillips sets the story in the early 80's, with a Gotham that resembles New York from the same time period. Why do this, when all new avenues of problems in social dynamics and socioeconomic conditions have emerged since then?

  • @wet-read

    6) Robert De Niro as Murray the talk show host is nothing but a glorified cameo IMO. His presence is not really felt so much as plainly shown. In addition to wanting to have him in Joker, which I’m sure he did, Phillips no doubt felt he needed to on some level as well. For the homage aspect certainly, as this movie was inspired by both Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy (both vastly superior to this mess), but also, I think, to ram it into people who knew little or nothing about this. The role didn’t require much of De Niro and his sizable acting talent; he wasn’t in the film very long, and didn’t have very much to do or work with, in stark contrast to his counterpart in TKoC. 7) I felt that the plot lazily tied Arthur’s life and doings with the larger backdrop of societal inequality the film only lightly touched on. 8) Arthur confronting Thomas Wayne felt a lot like the gun dropping incident at the children’s hospital. We already knew that Thomas Waynewas basically an out of touch elitist snob, and here, again, there was no real drama or suspense. Arthur accosts him awkwardly in a bathroom, then acts unhinged and laughs like a crazy person (per his affliction), ultimately getting socked in the face for it. What else did he expect? Does the audience really expect anything else at this point?

  • @wet-read
    @wet-read 3 місяці тому

    2) I feel that Arthur’s laughing affliction is totally unnecessary. It is just too much. It adds nothing to the overall arc of the film nor to its plot, and, worst of all, it is not a sign of any descent into madness, which we expect to see from this character, so much as a weird anomaly (I didn’t have any idea about the affliction Arthur had before seeing Joker). 3) Getting the gun, which he then drops while performing at work in a children’s hospital. How could he NOT be fired for that? Is that really tragic? Maybe it is, but it certainly isn’t dramatic. Just another all too easy log on the fire of building madness for Arthur. 4) The clown persona Arthur ends up using as an alter ego does not come as an epiphany or revelation. It is basically nothing more than an extension of what he does for work. Really? I expected something genuinely revelatory. Again, no subtlety, nothing at all required from the audience, either. 5) The killing of one of his coworkers and the subsequent vexing of his dwarf coworker, who couldn’t turn the door and leave when Arthur told him he could. This latter thing seemed like just a bizarre form of comic relief or something. And I don’t think the killing of his coworker was entirely necessary.

    THE FLAWS IN JOKER AS I SEE THEM 1) First off, and most obvious in terms of its structure is that the main character is overwritten. Arthur is bogged down with a lot of stuff from the start. As the film opens, we see that he is already in a dark place, just barely getting by, requiring ample chemical stabilizers. His caseworker seems kind of detached and indifferent to him. He has this affliction causing him to laugh uncontrollably at random times. He inhabits a gritty world and lives with his debilitated mother. His job is mostly demeaning and miserable (though perhaps, with his affliction, it is work Arthur can get that doesn’t cause many ripples for him in its execution). He has no chance, basically. While we already know that going in (he becomes the Joker, after all), there could have been an actual unravelling, a descent, rather than a slow drifting into total despair he was already heading in due to the overabundance of crap this character was saddled with right from the start. Another word on this: I believe it is done on purpose by writers of unsavory characters, because, it is thought, the audience will not root for them unless they really have an underdog pedigree. Another notable example of this is in the character of Walter White from Breaking Bad. I think he was overwritten from the beginning as well. White is, of course, an insanely overqualified high school chemistry teacher who also has to work at a car wash for extra money for his family. That family consists of a teenage son with cerebral palsy and a newly pregnant wife. His DEA agent brother-in-law is among the guests at his surprise 50th birthday party, at which Hank appears on the news discussing one of his drug busts featuring a lot of cash with the news reporter. All of this causes White to have a midlife crisis, and then he is hit with a freak diagnosis of lung cancer after he collapses at his miserable car wash side gig. A mountain of existential agony where a hill or even flat land could have sufficed, and this is before we learn of yet another detail about White’s lackluster mood and status in life: his withdrawal, many years ago, from a partnership that eventually blossomed into a multi-billion dollar business. So, it isn’t entirely odd or bad that this happens, but it can be excessive. I would have liked to see a protagonist that only had one or two things majorly wrong or disappointing, twisting him into an antihero. Or perhaps none at all! Why not just a guy who decides to start cooking and selling crystal meth because he is bored? Likewise with Arthur Fleck. Meanwhile, all of the other characters are underdeveloped.

    It's a balls-to-the-wall performance, but that doesn't necessarily translate to a good character or a good film he is in. I don't think Joker was a good film at all, except in "window dressing" ways, like the cinematography and soundtrack. I can give a very detailed explanation of my issues with the film if you wish. There are also several excellent videos I can mention that point out other issues this film has.

    Rory SUCKED! I absolutely agree with most of your review! However, even Keaton seemed restrained in his performance here. O’Hara was given nothing of value in her script (Though she is always a pleasure to watch, just because it’s her!) Winona seemed to forget Lydia, & TBH… was never a good enough actress to pull off carrying so much of a flick. (Her best role is still her original outing as Lydia.) The Soul Train thing wasn’t funny the first time around, but they just had to bring it back again, & the MacArthur Park scene…🤦‍♂️… (Maybe, if they had gone with the more upbeat Donna Summer version, might have worked better, also if it hadn’t gone on for WAAAAAAY TOOOOO LONNNNNG! ) If there is to be another BJ flick, I think it should call back to the first flick in title, “Beetlejuice 3:Third Time’s the Charm”. And… I sure hope it will be, as this second flick was just too disappointing, for me. (And I have played the ghost with the most, decades ago, at a world renowned major theme park’s Halloween event, (Meeting my wife in full makeup/costume) & even created a locally successful variation of the character. 🤦‍♂️💀🪲🧃
