Nice video. You did forget about GPS/Ranging on the Optional Setting popup. GPS and Get GPS Positioning needs to be ON, set your time zone, Distance Line set to Inch System and GPS Mode set to GPS.

Good video. APRS is a valuable tool especially messaging features to/from phone via RF. Re-discovering APRS on UHF at 9600, local uses not on the national channel. For those in rural areas or outdoorsy people who hike, bike, kayak, skin or whatever, its a relevant comms asset.

There seems to be some controversy online whether the Digipeater Path is 'WIDE1-1WIDE2-2' or 'WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2'. ie, comma or not. Some insist it needs the comma. Some insist it's a firmware thing and needs no comma to work. Either way, all the analogue FM APRS activity near me is gone now so APRS has become redundant 😞

Enjoyed the video on APRS a lot. I am learning about my new D878. One point though: Your explanation of location longitude seems backwards to me. In the USA we are in the western hemisphere. Should we really put 'E' in the hemisphere field?

I have an 878 Plus (not the UVII radio). I have running the latest CPs and firmware on the radio. I do not however see the options to the right of the APRS Analog section. Are these from the 878UVII or possible the 578 radio CPS?

Confusing as all heck. I have no idea why APRS settings has "multiple" APRS upload frequencies. Newer CPS has 8 of them!! why? EVERY single video except yours does not have these and shows older CPS versions that only has ONE APRS upload frequency. NOBODY explains why to create an APRS RX only channel and why it is needed or how to use it. and WHY you can't set up APRS RX on it. What if I just want to watch stuff and transmit too? All very confusing.

Duane, any chance for an analog APRS receive for SMS (not beaconing!) video? Receiving beacons works fine in my 578 Plus, but it's super sketchy on Rx from cell phones and other radios. Again, texting NOT beaconing. Thanks and 73

you don't want a "- anything" on the TOCALL SSID leave it zero and your "Device" will show "Device: Anytone: AT-D578 (rig)" or 878 respectivly. If I had the -1 on there the device wasn't populated.

Pretty good tutorial. The only thing I can add is that the digital APRS must be set up in the brandmeister self-care. The digital mode won't take any information from the analog sections of the CPS. Also, I made the mistake of putting a space after the comma in the path elements of the analog section. It took me a while to figure that out. I don't think a special channel needs to be set up for APRS. APRS can be made to work on any normally programmed channel. Good luck with your channel.

After this Work, what Firmware is too use?? The 878uvII or the Original 878UV ??

I have a AT-D878uv with what I believe is a bad speaker. The external speaker mic works and the data cable work fine. Has anyone changed a speaker? From this video I can't what the speaker connections are.

I am reading about a mod to change the 878uvplus Bluetooth board to the one used on the 878uv2 to allow for APRS text receive. The board is available for purchase on a particular site. They use I believe this video or a similar video to describe how to get to the Bluetooth board.

He very diligently pretends that he is very neat and smart, especially funny he uses tweezers with the same mounting bolts.

All the software I have seen for this radio is Windows-based is there anything Lenix out there? I am blind and my friend is using Lenix so I’m doing the best I can and try to be helpful! Any ideas?

Thanks for the video. I am not going to even attempt this. Every time I attempt to dissemble electronics that are so tightly put together, I never can get them back together properly or I break something in the process. If I am going to wreck my current radio attempting to upgrade it, might as just buy the new upgraded radio one without wrecking the old one. :)

Seem another video today I was considering radio but someone thought they would make 220 mhz on this radio 50 watts not just 10 watts ? I'll need 25 w make to closest repeaters but still probly worth buying but save some $ with the non gps model will be fine. Full duplex finally on a dmr radio! Get a working S/RF meter and it be a sale out! Good run down on radio video here .😎

I received my 578 and so far I am not very happy with it. After seeing your video about the Dual Recieve and seeing there are two separate speaker ports on the back of the radio I thought this would be the perfect replacement for having two separate radios in my vehicle, however this does not seem to be the case. On my 578, even though there are two separate external speaker ports, only one of them works. The sound from both VFO A and VFO B come out of the same speaker port. Did I somehow get a dud, or is the second speaker port just a fantasy item for looks?

I’ve got my 578 installed in my car and I’m loving it. It’s a great radio. I’ve been making videos over on my channel about it.

When you update the Contact list does it delete the previous and add to it the new? Do you end up with duplicates?

I set my 878uv plus to have the GPS set my date and time after I set the -5 hours. I think this will keep it updated, I will need to change for Daylight saving time.

Excellent presentation Duane. This gave me a much better understanding on how to manage the Anytone AT-868UV plus. While I wait for my transceiver to arrive I will go through all of your videos several times and hopefully do all of the updates and get on the air soon via my hotspot.
