Very good list. I might have swapped out Green or Holdsworth for Larry Carlton and Al Di Meola . Though I do think that Holdsworth's work with Jean-Luc Ponty, especially on Enigmatic Ocean, was amazing.

Great list, but I would have put Mary Lou Williams in the mix before Duke Ellington. She was the creator of Jazz piano and the way it was played by a lot of/all the men listed.

Jeez, Clifford Brown gets no love. "At Basin Street" with Sonny Rollins, are you kidding me? I notice none of these lists mention Brownie. He was a better trumpet player than Miles, for sure.

In the two videos (where those who need to be are there) I fundamentally miss three great guitarists. Jimmy Raney, Gábor Szabó and René Thomas.

I was a little surprised to not see Ray Brown on this list; he was not only huge in his own right, but through his SuperBass trio, brought a younger generation os players, Christian McBride and John Clayton, into the spotlight. Hearing three bassists from different eras and using different playing styles arrange jazz standards for three basses was something that shouldn't be missed! Another player that I always loved was Charlie Haden, who completely changed my way of thinking about bass (and I think is the bassist shown in the video picture).

The "Are you going with me?" clip gave me goosebumps. Pat is such an inspiration as well as all of these guys! Great compilation man!

Ray Brown is universally acknowledged as the greatest bass player and to leave Eugene Wright out as well makes me conclude that the guy who made this top ten list hasn't a clue about who's who in Jazz
