Loneliness: A Silent Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on loneliness as a significant public health concern. Particularly loneliness rates among young people have surged associated with serious consequences for physical and mental well-being. However, loneliness extends beyond being solely a public health issue. A recent study by the think tank "Progressives Zentrum" reveals a strong connection between loneliness and antidemocratic views, threatening the social fabric of societies.
Recognizing this profound impact of loneliness on societies the topic has entered the policy sphere. Both the UK and Japan have established the role of a Minister of Loneliness. The German Family Ministry issued a federal strategy on loneliness just two months ago.
This event will feature speakers delving into the societal impact of loneliness, exploring its root causes and potential policy solutions. Join us for an insightful discussion with:
• Lara Fleischer, Acting Head of Well-being Data and Policy Insights at the OECD
• Dr. Herlind Megges, Policy Advisor at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs (BMFSFJ)
• Melanie Weiser, Junior Project Manager at “Das Progressive Zentrum”
• Melanie Eckert, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of “krisenchat”
Moderators: Jan Spanhofer (MPP 2025) and Johanna Scholz (EMPA 2024)
The event is organized by the Work, Economy and Social Policy Club (WESP www.wespclub.com/) of the Hertie School. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the event!

Is formalization of the labour market counter-productive for increasing employment levels?
Переглядів 963 роки тому
Vincent's paper addresses whether formalization affects unemployment and whether this nexus is nonlinear in nature. Using a balanced panel dataset of 90 developing countries from 2001-2019, the paper finds robust evidence that for at least half of the countries in the sample, there is a long-run positive relationship between formalization and unemployment. However, this relationship is also non...

16.19 back in the 70-80 ies you didn't have to have 2 or more jobs, it wasn't impossible to get permanent work etc. I feel for youth now...a permanent contract 😮 what holidays and sick pay 😮 a decent salary 😮😮😮 This will explode. Together with increasing conflict as well as the total neglect of all our resource boundaries (incl corruption, sucking out "developing" countries pretending to help them, while keeping a new colonial rule alive), exploiting the last living virgin forest exuding water/bringing rain to the Amazon or killing every last habitat in our ocean, depleting groundwater, soils...it's like a "perfect" storm😱.

12.55 black rock can splash more cash annually than the government budget of a 2-3 EU countries I heard in a DW documentary (about some "self made" very arrogant property developer, very unaware of how; despite trying to highlight his philanthropic "efforts", extremely self content/ego he was). It was about how local councils basically have to "give in" to extra luxury units/less social or affordable housing and approve his planning application hoping for scraps...mind numbing. If you want to see a true horror film, look it up.

I'm sure the intentions are good but UBI will most likely be used by the plutocrats to destroy socio-economical security for exposed and weak groups with no voice. The only voice they have now in the ruins of representative democracy is that of empathy from a vast majority of citizens who can relate empathically to a specific security, like disabled benefit or health insurance. They won't allow they're fellow citizens and kin who are in these systems to be thrown out on the streets. It would be an outrage if these systems were taken out and the elite sociopaths knows it. UBI then serves the purpose of killing these heavy and specific old systems of socio-economic security. Through engineered inflation UBI then gets lowered by simply not allowing it to be raised. Some time of this, rinse and repeat and it's down to nothing while the old systems are gone as were representation to rebuild it gone long ago. And with it they burn the last remains of representative democracy.

You are bit lot wrong. There have been plenty of warnings about the state of the world's economy for longer than a couple of years. In fact even I knew about the problem five years ago. I've been following it since 2913/4. But it got worse just recently. I can't find any evidence that the treasurer of Australia has any involvement with Goldman Sachs. Although they have an office in Sydney. RECORDING) PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: It goes through air, Bob. That's always tougher than the touch. You know, the touch - you don't have to touch things, right? But the air - you just breathe the air. That's how it's passed. And so that's a very tricky one. That's a very delicate one. It's also more deadly than your - you know, your - even your strenuous flus. That's Trump's take on covid. Like most if not all leaders it was what they thought. But I'm in some prepared groups and the ones in Australia already had put the word out in September to watch China. By December china was loosing control of this " new flu". We were in full prep mode by the end of December. It's was officially called in January. My country did nothing until March. If you go back through the newspapers you can see back in 2014 that there was concerns raised about the effectiveness of the flu vaccine. By the start of 2019 the doctors new we were in trouble. It's on record so you can read about it. I'm going to watch more of the video. I'm just letting you know. You can probably tell I'm not a fan of the current leaders. They are so out of touch. Too slow to react and protecting other interests. Navigation through this corrupt system takes a steady hand. I recommend you try and stay away from being bias. Australia hasn't had a good leader for many years. We did have a period when we had no fences. I used to know old stockmen. Our problems really started when the fences went up. Thats what the stockmen told me. Way back in the 1980s.

the demand for compounding of savings needs an increase in money supply. and if the federal govt wont provide, and or if interest rates for bonds are low, then it's up to the private sector to get everybody into debt to chase the compounding rule of 72.
