I think overhand grippers put too much pressure. The more I use fountain pens the more I support the pen with the thumb from the underbody. The pen glides better using the Japanese grip - supported by thumb and index opposed one another- however it takes more concentration.

Are all Parker converters compatible with all models? I mean, are for instance old Parker converters from the 90's (i.e. Parker Sonnet) compatible with current 2021 Parker 51? I'm asking because I tried to fit a converter from a 90's Sonnet into a modern 2021's 51 and it looks like I need to push hard (slimmer body on the 51? / thicker diameter on the old converter?), but I didn't to avoid damaging any of both.

Thanks for the vid. I think the tandem format works well, and appreciate you two introducing yourselves at the beginning. I don't think anyone would take issue with most of your choices of top starter pens. The tried-and-true products in this space change very slowly. However, you might want to read what is said about the Sailor Compass on Fountain Pen Network. As much as I love Sailor pens, and as much as I love the *looks* of the Compass, a pen needs to write reliably well. Shockingly, the nib on the Compass appears to fail on this count, and the model is not doing well. I'd be surprised if Sailor continues to offer it much longer. In place of the Compass, I'd cite a pen that I don't think gets anywhere near the love it deserves, and that's the Pilot Kaküno. This pen ticks all the boxes for a newbie. It's a basic simple plastic pen that's inexpensive (CAN$15) and all-but-indestructible. It's also lightweight (11 grams) and mid-sized, so it travels well. The pen caps and uncaps securely and effortlessly. The Kaküno comes in M, F, and EF. It uses the same nib as does the Metropolitan, at half the cost. Reliable and effortless to use, the pen is just rock solid. I believe the Kaküno was designed by Pilot as a pen for children just learning to write. What it lacks in elegance, it easily makes up for in fun. Check out the Kaküno's wide range of colors, and of course the smiley, winky faces engraved on its nib. (Obviously, if you're going for seriousness and sophistication, this is not the pen for you.) The only downside is that the Kaküno doesn't come with a converter. So you need to spring for a Con-40 (Con-70 also fits) if you don't want to be limited to Pilot cartridges. I figure I'm a good 50+ years down the road from Pilot's target demographic for the Kaküno, but I still smile whenever I grab one to start writing with.

I've had mine for almost 5 years now and it still is in great shape! Classy AF, but rugged. They are a bit pricy, but you're using it all the time, so the price per use is so much lower than something you buy at 5 bucks but never use it! Great wallet, but not for people that carry lots of coins!

THAT IS NOT A PARKER 51 NIB... that is a Jotter nib. El cheepo Jotter nib, The real 51 nib is a circular nib with a mini feed and a very complex capillary system. I have used Parker 51 when I was in school. Those are not Parker 51. Parker is cheating. That nib is too big for a real 51

I hope you take this as helpful criticism. I stopped watching after hearing, “This is a French company- I believe.” If you’re going to be putting together videos where you purport to be a resident expert on the topic, you must know your facts with 100% certitude. Also, and this is important especially in hobbies where a large percentage of the market is highly educated, learn to properly pronounce the brand names you are trying to sell. To not do so conveys a disregard for other cultures.

I'm a little surprised no one mentioned the wing sung 3008, you get four for less than $20usa. They are very similar to the twzby eco's. They hold lots of ink and write smooth, usually, out of the package. The old one's used to crack, but mine are the newer version, bought two years ago, and they are very tough now. I really like mine.

I love some Diamine, Noodler's, etc inks but I love ALL Iroshizuku inks. They always work well in all my fountain pens.
