just bought a gaiwan today, really amazing to use. love it
your polaroids really add to stories you tell! I really like your stuff 👏👏 I wish you success
I don't know much about film or pottery lol but this video was really pretty to look at. The clay color looks stunning and the video quality is incredible. I wish I could describe it better to explain how nice this short looked. Subscribed!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏻💜 I want to try and bring you in like you’re here with me in my shorts, seems like that worked for you on this one haha.
Do you do anything with your used leaves?
@@andrewallbritton I don’t but probably should 🙈😅
@ same here, if only my apartment had composting.
I had the W2T subscription for four months. The teas were really nice but realistically it didn’t represent value for money. I’m not saying it was overpriced, I could quite believe that it’s the right cost for the expenses that go into it, but the last month I had it before I cancelled I just looked at my parcel and asked myself “is that $30 worth of tea? Is that even $20 worth of tea?” And I couldn’t in all honesty say yes. Maybe it was $30 worth of experience. I tried some teas I’d never tried before and always enjoyed what I drank but in the end I couldn’t justify the cost on a budget. Even buying from Jesse’s Teahouse who are renowned for having moderate to high prices, I get a huge amount more tea for my dollar and always reliable quality too.
Best of luck on your business endeavors!!! I’m still working on mine
Thank you!! Good luck to you too 🙏🏻
Try 185 degrees for red teas. Should be more gentle with a bouquet.
You can also try a Tea Table (Chaban). If you don't like the sound of what you saying.
You have a nice haircut 🔥
I love this!! Have gotten into a tea obsession this days, love your videos❤
I love that they're delving into white fucha.
Agree. Learn, unlearn, relearn type of thing, that only develops with experience. Only later on you'll realise why you love teapots, or any other teaware, and why you use it. Just like variable temp kettles. I thought I needed one to get the best temperature for my teas. Yet in the last 2 years I've been only putting it to 100°C, and learned to be concious about where and how I pour the water into the gaiwan. (Or to just let it cool down in a pitcher, if i brew japanese greens.) Altough this is a bit off topic from the short vid, but I hope not too much.
No no, totally agree. That is the main point. 🙏🏻
The chinese started drinking powdered tea, also slightly more ceremonial then now, at the same time it was brought over to japan. Then the mongols invaded china and they switched back, while japan repelled the mongols and further evolved it into the intricate tea ceremony. Origin: the book of tea by kakuzo. No idea id thats teue, but the ceremonial aspect is a lot influenced by taoism
I thought I was crazy! I remember drinking a really nice aged white a while back, and had to lie down for almost two hours cuz I felt like my blood was gonna pop out of my skin... took my bp reading and it was like 10 points away from being ER levels! Getting tea drunk is no joke!!!
It really isn’t!
Thoughts on Jesse's Teahouse and his subscription?
Subscription is actually in the mail now. He’s still pretty new to the tea scene so it took me a while to get his subscription. 😄🙈
Always very high quality tea, much better value for money than W2T’s subscription, although you can get better value for money teas from the general W2T store than you can from Jesse. But the one thing I would say about Jesse is EVERYTHING- literally everything - on his store is top quality. I’ve never had a tea from him that wasn’t really good. I’m happy to pay a small premium on his prices for that level of confidence that what I’ll get is going to be good. He’s the only person I’d buy a full cake from without trying a sample in advance.
Which kinds of white tea do you prefer to ones from Yunnan?
Much bigger fan of Fujian white teas.
I loooove their tea club
The cake is delightful. W2T tea club is such a great sub. I look forward to this package every month. Also whoa the video was fire
Agreed! There’s some months at this point that I’m not particularly excited about but still see a ton of value in the comparisons and info especially for newer tea drinkers. But good enough tea to still enjoy years down the road.
@TaoTeaware I Def dream they would expand their club offerings. A 'smoked' club box that offers the smoked tea samples from their extensive catalog would go hard. Same if they had a 'raw' club for the Sheng. But hey I'm asking for sprinkles and whipped cream, I'm happy af with what they already offering too lol
Such high action!
Thanks for the info. Regardless of mould or (semi)handmade, how safe are the pots for drinking? I’m looking at a Chaozhou pot (70ml) for about 5 dollars but I’m worried it’s too cheap to be safe
$1000 tea pot? Here I am just some a**hole microwaving his coffee cup to heat up the water.
French cleat? Who in the hell made that name up? And DON'T EVEN say FRENCH! You fooking CLEAT! 😂
Can you explain why a ball filter is theoretically better?
Its a cleet like every store you go into everything is held like this
How do you clean your teaware? My dragons breath gaiwan is starting to stain.
Just boiling water. You could hit it with a bit of baking soda but normally boiling water and a soft cloth right after like a tea towel is my go to. I’ve actually still never used baking soda on any of my teaware haha. I use it on my plates and bowls that are porcelain in my kitchen though. I’ll do a video on alternatives too.
Citric acid tablets or granules with boiling water can also be useful for removing tea and coffee stains. Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly afterward.
The colour looks so yummy i want to eat it
I love how you mention relationship with your maker/dealer. I have a local ceramic artist I purchase from and I re-purpose his ware to suit my tea making. He and I are talking about me commissioning a cha pan. But our relationship is literally him letting me walk away with a pot he made (western style) without even paying. I didn't have the money on me, but he knew I was good for it so he let me walk away with it. Of course I went back to the same market the next weekend to give him the money. I have never seen another glazing pattern on any of his other pots since.
Ooooo
hotel headboards also use this technique
I’ve seen it in other woodshops too. I just didn’t think to do it until I saw Jonathan’s. ☺️
considering the amount of dickriding you've been doing in this video, it's clearly NOT the hardest glaze ever 🤦🏿
Why is this underrated!
That green and red is crispy 🔥
Mark said it’s like a 1 in 1,000 that he could get that even split. 😅 So good for education purposes… but also feel very fortunate to have it.
That is really pretty but I thought teapots aren’t suppose to be glazed at that level of craftsmanship. Just stepping into Yixing teapots so I’m sure I’m wrong somewhere, why does the glaze not matter here?
No no that’s a great question. With handmade teapots part of the intrigue that unglazed clay pots like ones from Yixing will have is the ability to soften, round, change the brewing taste of the tea. There are some times where you don’t want unglazed for technical reasons because it can mute the flavors or aromas that you want to get out of a certain tea. And then other times where it’s not really about adding or removing from the flavor of the tea and it’s just a design choice. At the end of the day it’s up to the artist and what they are looking for the teapot to do and then if you like what they’re sharing. ☺️
Interesting!
How does those lids not fall from the apprentice teapots??? I genuinely don't understand
Haha that’s fair. The ones with the flat lid, the top of the body curves around creating a lip for the lid to get stuck. The ones with the lid that has a part that goes down, that part going down (the flange) is just under in circumference compared to the opening and the clay is rough enough that it can grab flange as long as it’s isn’t perfectly parallel to the hole. I hope that helps. ☺️
more of everything please? no one does it like you I’d love to see more deep dives into pots clays tea storage and reviews and nerding out on it because that’s where the fun lies imo just keep it casual
Done ☺️
I second all of this!
Is 240ml.not equal to 8oz or 1 cup? I thought 240ml pot should be ideal to brew tea. Why are you against brewing tea in any pot size of more than 200ml
Probably just his personal preference. 240ml is quite big, and depending on strong you like your tea, how many resteeps you do, etc. the caffeine intake and liquid intake can become too much for a single person. Even with my 200ml teapot, for solo sessions, I find myself going to the bathroom more than a few times.
Yeah so I typically am using 5/6 grams of tea per 100ml so if it’s a pot over 200ml that’s at least 10g of tea and a lot of caffeine especially 5, 6, 7 steeps in. Like on steep 7 that would be 1.4 liters and a whole lot of caffeine.
Thats crazy to think that I've talked to you directly through support. Loving my teapot!
So cool!
That color reminds me of purple Skittles so cool
Ooooh. I didn’t think of that. I can see it though!
Another emasculated male.
these are gorgeous !! would love a lovely teapot and some cups from yall
Its not like they made it its just some shitty dropshipping scheme
@@tomfitz1546the cups and gaiwan are Mark Mohler... he makes very reasonably priced handmade ceramics in the US.
Thank you so much 🙏🏻 We’re very excited about them.
@@nothin-yy4gn doesnt mean im wrong tho
Pretty color! Very nice
I’ve got a 90ml porcelain gaiwan and a 180-200ml yixing pot. I used to drink only from the yixing pot, but ended up using less and less tea per session because just like you said I felt I was wasting the tea as I was doing 3-5 steeps usually. This resulted in less flavor and body. I am thinking about getting a 120-140ml glasspot as my old large 320ml glasspot has lost its lid along the way and is serving as a cha hai now. I am also considering a smaller yixing pot mainly for pu-erh. Something like 70-90ml xishi. What is the deal with silver and steel pots? I remember the guy from yunnan sourcing using one in lots of videos. Seems unpractical as it’s heavy and gets very hot?
The idea with the silver is the same as with the Yixing in terms of changing flavor. It’s going to add more to those mineral heavy teas and are made in primarily in Yunnan. Not so much in other parts of China. As for burning yourself, same as a hot clay pot. Just have to keep your hands on the lid and handle only when you’re brewing.
@ right! Thanks for the quick explanation 🙏 Was looking at your shop and lovely selection. Didn’t find anything that spoke to me yet, but will follow your updates! Btw as I am in Finland, are there any shops with tea/ware other than meileaf that you could recommend?
@ I do shop with tea-addicts and teepolku here in Finland.
I'll stick to my Twinnings Earl Grey, thanks.
Did anyone ask?
I prefer lipton
two hundred ml is my stopping point too... at some point it just gets too expensive, especially for solo sessions! Do you think Yixing makes a lot of teapots on the larger side to make them more appealing to Taiwanese customers? I feel like in Taiwan they always drink out of larger sizes haha
Potentially. 😊 But the smaller teapots came more from Chaozhou and now has spread from people like me asking for them haha.
The worst guy to have to sit next to in any situation
😂🎉
My Dicaoqing is 290 😅
That’s a nice big boy. Love me some dicaoqing
Love that cup
Well, put it in the dishwasher. For me that works.
I’d be worried about putting a handmade pot in the dishwasher but if it works it works.
@@TaoTeaware I'm sorry. That was sarcasm. My pots are 5 bucks from ikea.
