I always figured that he IS a future incarnation, but he is SHAPED like a bootstrap. He is eveil because they time lords told him he is supposed to be, and the very act of them having seen this future self, allows him to exist metaphysically and physically within his own timeline as the Doctor. He has the Doctor’s memories, and he is him. He’s just different circumstancially.

Apart from last part of the Christmas special, the husbands of river song felt really unimpressive for me. This was also the first time there wasn’t a doctor who series in between Christmas specials so it was very strange to have 2 Christmas specials from previous years follow on from one another. Another reason why I didn’t think much of the return of doctor mysterio (that and it’s just silly)

Something I wanted to comment on is your comment on RTD’s use of queer coded villains being problematic. I think it’s important to note that unlike disability (to my knowledge) RTD is a gay man, so I think the use of queer coding in some of his villains isn’t particularly problematic at least in his case

I quite like The Next Doctor. I really like David Morrissey's performance in the episode (though the tone is all over the place) and its a half-decent Cyberman story, even factoring in the Shades and the giant mech. I like that the episode is a story that happens to be set at Christmas, instead of an episode written around a Christmassy concept like so many other Christmas Specials

Pleased to see that Husbands… and Last Christmas were not on the list as I watched them both yesterday and really enjoyed them. Surprised as I seem to have dim but mostly negative memories of them. Happy Crimbo all 👍😁

I always loved the dual nature of Sutekh, even if some tales featuring him in mythology were straight up weird. Such as in one myth, he fathered the crocodile god, Sobek, with the Goddess Neith, Ra’s sister and/or mother.

I don't understand how the costume of the original Toymaker should be racist. I don't see how they are mocking - Chinese, or Mandarin people. There is no insulting behaviour. In fact the only thing tying the character to Mandarin culture is that he happens to wear a costume akin to traditional clothing of that region. Otherwise it's a trickster god messing with humans for fun. Neither is he made out to be from this culture nor is there some 'Mandarin people do that too' kind of vibe. It's just a fancyful costume for a flamboyant character.
