JOAN SUTHERLAND “Spargi d’amaro pianto” {ONE VIDEO COMPARING THREE PERFORMANCES 1962, 1973, 1982}
Переглядів 4102 роки тому
A comparison video of Dame Joan singing “spargi d’amore pianto” from three different performances. 1962, 1973, and 1982. Different clips from all three years are edited together in one seemless video to show the similarities and differences of her voice and overall presentation of the popular aria over the years.

Joan Sutherland & Marilyn Horne ONE VIDEO COMPARING TWO PERFORMANCES 1979, 1985 “Serbami Ignore”

I’ve taken two videos of “Serbami Ognor” sung by Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne from ‘79 and ‘85, and edited them into one performance. See the similarities and differences seven years can bring.
Dame Joan Sutherland COMPARING “Quando rapito in estasi” from 1961, 1979, 1982.
Переглядів 7742 роки тому
I’ve taken three different videos of Dame Joan singing the same aria and edited them to play as one performance, featuring all three videos. Each video is from a different year, showing how her voice has changed over the years; only proving that she was arguably the greatest soprano of the 20th century. La Stupenda!

I’ve combined two videos of Joan singing in 1961 and 1979. It’s amazing how little her voice changed over those 18 years.

    It's truly unbelievable how similar the voice is. Yes, there are differences, but this is what happens when vocal technique and production is completely mastered. I prefer the early Sutherland for the sheer freedom and ring in the voice, but the 50 plus year-old Sutherland was damn close as was the 60 year-old version.

    Il solo limite di Dame Joan era il suo mettere tanto in maschera, da rendere quasi incomprensibile ogni parola. A differenza di Luciano che aveva una dizione brillante e chiarissima. Inguardabile senza barba!!! Ma con tutto il fulgore della gioventù. Invidio chi li ha sentiti dal vivo. Che privilegio!!!

    Although it’s not shown here the one she sang at the Sydney Opera House where she threw herself down the stairs backwards at the end was fantastic. You can definitely hear a darkening of her voice in the Met performance, although she has more volume. I prefer the 1962 version. Her voice seems so much more flexible and whilst not the power of the Met performance, it seems more pure. Funny true story, as she got older she wore knee pads under her costume so she could collapse on stage without pain! 😂 May she rest in peace. She has earned it.

    Great Otello duet. I rate Pavarotti's 1991 recording of Otello with his Idomeneo as his most committed performance on disc. And he was a superb Otello, totally idiomatic and convincing.

    It's interesting that when you listen to the diction of all three, Pavarotti has the clearest. The chiaroscuro is in my opinion the reason. Sutherland and Horne use mask placement and lack brilliance, squillo, and clean clear pure Italian vowels.

    • @marcelbureau2753
      @marcelbureau2753 3 місяці тому

      You are absolutely right! I don’t understand how Sutherland and Horne could have had the career they had singing like that! A good diction comes only with the use of proper chest voice and chiaroscuro. With proper chiaroscuro the voice is free and it is very easy to enunciate clear pure vowels and produce explosive consonants within a legato. Good diction comes with good vocal technique. These ladies only vocalize on one approximative vowels (UH) with no consonants. Apparently they could produce loud noises in a theatre but this is not a sign of good technique. Their voices were over covered, thin, muddy, small. I am sure Pavarotti knew that they were not good but sang with them only for the money.
