Red Chalk is more like semi permanent. Stays in longer but still comes off decently easy.

I had a helper like this once. He chucked a drill wildly straight at my head from the roof and I luckily swatted it away into the customer’s yard. Followed it up with “why didn’t you catch that?”

It’s definitely not permanents. Been in the construction field for 20+ years and never had a problem with red chalk or any chalk staying.

I do a lot of layout for high rises. ALL colors come off eventually(red generally the longest imo). If you really need it to stick and don’t care if it’s there 5 years down the line. Pre spray the material/floor with clear coat first, Then snap the line. It’ll ruin your string lines but I’ve seen clear as day lines even after ripping up tile 5 years later.

Quick search reveals... Red chalk in both "permanent" and regular options. Just because it may be "permanent" more often than other colours doesn't mean it is always a "permanent" chalk.

I built for years. All chalk comes off. Nobody uses red where I work though because the blue is much more clear on the wood

1970s a pole barn steel place I know they used red chalk on the white pole barn addition and if you drive by there in 2024 you could still see the beautiful red chalk lines faded a little bit, but not very much for 50 years haha
