Lighting and Building a Fire
Переглядів 26210 місяців тому
I wanted to show how I build a fire. I've already made a video explaining the steps, but this gives an opportunity to see it done organically, and to watch/learn from how I do it. You will see that airflow is very important. There are many times where I almost smother the fire by putting too much kindling on too early, but save it by forcing a lot of air in. You will also see various techniques...
Opinion: Lee-Enfield vs. Mauser-style actions
Переглядів 105Рік тому
I did forget to mention why I think the Mauser action became more popular than the Lee-Enfield style action. I think it is the same reason why the US chose to adopt the M-14 over the FAL; Tradition and familiarity. Many countries were already familiar with the action and did not want to stray from what is familiar. However, there is no way to know for certain, only to know what is probable.

Webley Mk IV: .38/200, an interesting ammunition choice for a service revolver.
Переглядів 2,8 тис.Рік тому
I forgot to mention that while a 200 grain bullet is nothing to shake a stick at, there's so little powder behind it that it may be very anemic; we will see if/when I end up shooting it through a chronograph, sit down and do the math to find the ft/lbs, and then shoot a meat target with it.
Lower handguard on an AK won't come out? Here's a fix.

Skip to 1:10 for the actual solution. Use the punch from the cleaning kit. I'm not normally so rough with guns, for the record. I also don't feel any differently about PSA, and wouldn't recommend not buying from them due to this.

11:39 "I crunched the numbers" means I did a rudimentary calculation to determine the muzzle energy in ft/lbs and compared it to results from similar rounds. We will go over why this is okay for quick comparisons but isn't a good way to determine the effectiveness or "stopping power" of a round in a later video.
This literally just happened to me, and I was wracking my brain how to fix and this was the problem. Thank you so so much, super glad I stumbled upon this video and that I was able to fix it
@@Underxthebus glad it could help!
Well done on your on you explanation of the different ammo’s . And yes it is a legend of a pistol .. not the most pretty… not the most powerful… but when you are handing them out to all the different company’s and battalions. During the 2 ww . They did what they were expected to do, give the owner the chance to defend themselves in all conditions without failure… 😊
Comments as of October, 2024 Very interesting round and interesting history. Not going to rehash the history of the .38 S&W round. According to the official accounts of the British Army testing the .380/200 (the Brits prefer thee decimal places normally) provided results to equal the older .455 Webley round. Not Earth-shaking, but satisfactory. The round is rather gentle and rather friendly to the shooter. It is not brutal in recoil. Accuracy of the ammunition from the revolver seems to be adequate; while not on the level of pistols or revolvers fired in NRA 'Bullseye' competition, it is capable of connecting with a man silhouette (comparable to the IPSC target) at 25 yards or less. Further of note, the Webley revolver using the .38/200 load was standard for the British armed forces from 1922 to 1963. It was replaced by the 9mm NATO round. The replacement was caused for the same reason the U. S, replaced the M1911/M111A1, the NATO standard. Correct. The .380/200 does not have the same kinetic (muzzle) energy so loved by advertisers. The rounds do not usually penetrate a human body. It just uses all the energy (momentum) IN the target. Whatever the reasoning, it seemed to work for about 40 years.
Only shoot factory ammo through these. I wont mention names but there are some ammo makers that market the actual 38/200 grain loads as made for these guns. Avoid them, they are loaded too hot even though they are advertised as being the correct load. I tried one brand and ended up with a broken recoil shield. Also the spent shells will stick in the cylinder needing to be pried out. I tried another brand that was assured be the correct low velocity 200 gr cartridge. Also too hot and spent shells stuck in chamber. Miwall, Remington, PPU have all performed well.
what type of ammo do these use exactly
@@davidchase9148 I have Fiocchi 148gr .38S&W rounds. I also have some .38/200 from Matt's Bullets that I'll be doing some testing on.
I've ordered 8 rifles from RTI this year. All good deals without much wait. All but 1 have good bores, 1 is fair.
So this came from a batch, not individually marketed? What grade did you get?
Yup, from one batch. It was $499 and had the code "SMLE0003" on their website. I think it was a B grade but I'm not sure. No hand select.
@@waitingforthefall627I just ordered the 599 dollar Iraqi one. If it turns out as good as yours I'll be stoked. But RTI has f'd me bad before
What process did you use to paint in the markings on yours? I love that look and want to do it to mine
My Webley just came like that. I have considered using a crayon to fill the lettering and then using a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove the excess.
Thank you so much for this video! I got the same model of Webley and one box of the same matts bullets ammo to confirm it fired but have been looking for alternatives at lesser cost so I can shoot it more! You’re the best for confirming my suspicion on the fiocchi stuff!!!
I'm glad it was helpful! I'm happy with the Fiocchi so far, and I actually haven't shot any of Matt's Bullets yet, although I'm planning on it.
The original service rounds were FMJ. I used to have a lot of it but shot it all up in my Mark IV.
All hail Paul Harrell!!
Would love to see that testing when you get the chance! Big fan of the Webleys.
Hey Waiting RTI has never let me down.. and that Mk. 111 is ok. And i subed ya too
Gun Sam has done some very interesting ballistics testing of his version of the old "Super Police" round which is very similar but based on the 38 Special case. The original was a 200 grain LRN (.358") at about 650 fps. Dam used a 213 gr bullet initially designed for .35 Remington. Well worth looking at for comparison.
I'm absolutely going to go out and take a look at that video, thank you for the recommendation!
Great little video! Out of curiosity, do you know if this would work with an old H&R .38S&W?
I'd imagine so, but I can't say for sure, since speed loaders tend to differ by both caliber and how far each round is from each other to accommodate for differences in the thickness of cylinder walls.
@@waitingforthefall627 Thank you, my friend! As far as I know, .38S&W and the .38/200 that certain Webleys use are the same round, the Webleys are just the 200 grain variant I believe, but I might be wrong. Hopefully the spacing for the cylinder is the same. Thanks again!
@@Sanguivore correct, the .38/200 was just a fancy way to specify the 200 grain bullet. This was prior to .38 spl becoming the ubiquitous ".38".
One of my “bucket list “ handguns that I’ve yet to acquire. I’d like to see more about it.
I would be interested in some actual ballistic tests. From what I've read, the comparable performance with the .455 cartridge came from having a different form of energy delivery on target. The 455 is a soft lead, conventionally mushrooming bullet; while the 38-200 S&W is a mariginally stable bullet that keyholes on impact. Increasing velocity makes it tumble less. Stopping power was reduces when England went to a 176 grain FMJ. Another thing i've learned recently: the British proof system used a different instrument which measeured a lower point on the pressure curve than what is common today. A simple numeric conversion of Long Tons to PSI is not accurate: apples to oranges.
I'm still planning on doing this testing; I'm just getting settled into a new job and am still working out when I can take off the time to do it. I didn't know about the proof system; that's great and I'll include that point in the video!
congrats
the fake laughs are dumb af just saying g
I use 9mm bullets because they are not available in my country. Note that they are the same diameter
Is that safe for the longevity of the gun? I imagine modern 9mm is much more pressurized and will warp the gun and put it out of time over time.
I have a hammerless enfield no2, 38S&W, I regularly shoot 38/200 loads the point of aim is fine shoots good groups. I use starline brass and trailboss powder for the most part, I get better velocity with blue dot but loose accuracy.
man you know what i just can't stand, that this fork doesn't work well for eating soup.. it's almost like certain tools have certain jobs 😅 10/10 goon
You can pick these up now in Civvy colours. I know how much my friends across the pond love these. I'm in the states every couple of years and take a few of them over for my US mates.
I'd love to see this in action. I was given an original and mint 👌 from my late grandfather. I'm having a hard time finding the .38/200 ammo and I'd like to see how worth it is for me to continue to search. From what I found out, the cost is about $1.00/round. Nothing in stock though.
I'm still planning on getting out and making this video, when I've got the time.
Good video❤ Following you ❤

Can’t wait to fall down some thorny, rocky hills in this great camo jacket.
Does anybody has problems with the mesh lining?
If you do handloading, theres a lee mold for .35 remington that can give you a close approximation, big 200gr lead pill although they're round with a flat nose. I use them for my enfield revolver and they've always shot more or less to POA
I am 182 cm , 72 kilos, 95 chest, and 180/96 fits good. I have enough space to put a wool sweater underneath and still move comfortable.
170/ 88 fits better!!
looks pretty good to me for the vintage, what year is your Lithgow (I have a 1915 Lithgow), how much did you pay and roughly what size groups does it shoot at what range if you don't mind answering those questions?
Thanks for answering! Mine is a 1942 and I paid around $500 after taxes, shipping, and transfer. I'm not exactly what size groups it shoots exactly, as I haven't taken it to a flat range with a bench yet, but standing and shooting off hand at 100 yards I can consistently hit a chest-sized target. I'd guess that under those conditions I'm hitting about a 4" group? I should sit down and really see how accurate it actually is. Is your Lithgow a Mk III or a Mk III*?
@@waitingforthefall627 Mine has Mk III with no star, it has been sporterised and it came with a Central peep sight that I removed and then fitted a Field side mount and attached a Weaver 6X steel tube scope (they don't make those any more) It appears to have been rebarreled in the 40's probably for use in the second war with a heavy barrel (H proof mark). It has the mag cut off slot but no cut off fitted. I put a new barrel on it about 25 years ago when they were selling them here in Australia for about $80 It's no target rifle but it is a lot of fun to shoot.
I'm interested in that
Thanks for the vid. Informative.
looks like a great one to me!!!
Terrible holster get a safari land holster with level lll retention I could easily take that gun out your Blackhawk holster while you aren’t looking the same can’t be said for safari land
So what replaced this design according to the NLETC??
I haven't seen anything sweeping or conclusive, but I was in shortly after these fell by the wayside and we were issued the Safariland SLS across the board.
Your comments aren’t entirely accurate, but yes, Australia never adopted the no 4 mk 1. It did however make improvements to the no 1 mk 3
I wasn't aware that they made their own improvements, besides eliminating the brass unit tag in the stock. Were those present in the Mk III* different than the British Mk III*s?
@@waitingforthefall627 significantly improved barrels and a heavy profile, different sight protectors are the primary differences.
@@medic9544 I didn't know that, thank you!
All time best Rifel❤️
Which grade did you order?
This was a B grade, no hand select.
I just found myself an L39A1 in pristine condition, and learned a lot about the unique action through this video. Thanks.
That's really cool, I had to google that model. I'm glad I could help! If you're able, you should upload a video showing it off.
