We have a 2000 S500 with the same problem of not starting. We let more time go by but still no crank or start. Checked with Info Scan/OBDII and have No Codes. What Relay did you replace?

Can you tell me what your problem end up been I'm having the same problem

Scan the car, it will tell you what the issue may be. If the gear in which the car is in (next to time display) does not show it is likely the gear selector or the EIS

So it wasn't the starter relay(L) it was relay(k)

Did the logo on the radio come on when the car would not crank

So your issue was intermittent? As in sometimes you turn the key and nothing happens and other times ( most times ) it cranks up?

the noise is coming from the pump for the airmatic suspension.

I just try this and it didn't work my car does same thing but my lights on but the PW sigh on dash don't pop up car will turn up but if that sigh do t pop up cant drive and itll get stuck in first gear then wen it does pop up i can drive but relay didn't fix this help please

Years to find a relay? That's why we have mercerdes mechanics this should of takin a tech 15 min to find and fix

I have a 2003 Mercedes S500..my car had the same issue..wouldn’t start for days then randomly would start..there was an issue with the damaged FOB I was using and the car wasn’t connecting to the FOB. I used an extra FOB with new batteries and now my car starts. Also, if the inside of your FOB is dirty, it will cause the same issue, it needs taken apart and cleaned. Hope this helps.

Thank you for publishing these! I watched your videos, and decided to nip the problem in the bud, so I went to Autozone and bought a replacement relay, installed it, and... No joy, I'm sorry to report. (I also swapped the Starter Relay (the green block adjacent to the one you'd found wedged, and replaced) but that also yielded no positive result. I had seen another fellow's video on the E55's having a similar set of symptoms, and he had demonstrated forcing the starter to ignite manually, which I'd also tried, with no success.) Now, I'm going to attempt to replace the Stop Light (brake) Switch, because I noticed when using my diagnostic tool (Not a STAR, but the Foxwell with the Merc-specific code) that the switches for the EIS EZL CAN etc all come back as perfectly functioning, BUT I am receiving a "brake light switch implausible signal" which is triggering faults in the ESP... and might potentially (fingers crossed!) be preventing the car from recognizing my foot is on the brake, which MIGHT be why it won't attempt ignition. Wish me luck, and don't give up on MB just yet! (My Bimmers have been NIGHTMARES, to be honest!)

Update. I replaced the relay and my car started right up. I drove upstate ny and the temp was -17F And my car started right up. GOD bless you!!! I saved so much money. Thank you

I have the same problem with a slight difference. Mine is a 2000 s500 and after going through the routine (waiting for the lights) right after the engine starts (a tenth of a second) it turns off. Now this only happens only once in a while but it does. I will change the relay and will update ASAP. Thank you for all your hard work.

proposes to remove the ignition switch and leave it on the warm radiator for some time, when it is warm, install it and check if the car fires. in my case it worked and it was the ignition switch that was to blame. PROCESSOR IN THE STATION FOR REPLACEMENT AND PROGRAMMING

i have a 04 s500.. my taillights stay on and the battery ends up dead all the time. once i jump it, it runs smooth until the srs message pops up and radio shuts off, turn signals don’t work, and much of the electrical things like windows won’t go down. i’m not sure what the problem could be..
