Cantate Domino
France
A former singer of the Schola of the Abbey of Solesmes for several years, I had the chance to learn from monks who used to sing for many decades in the schola of Dom Joseph Gajard and Dom Jean Claire.
I also sang TLM in beautiful choirs, notably in Saint-Louis, Missouri, during my studies, but also in France where I have also been a gregorian Choir Master until very recently.
I created this channel to share some beautiful pieces of Gregorian chant. If you want a record of a specific piece of the Gregorian "Répertoire" please let me know.
As a new channel, your likes, comments, sharings and subscriptions mean a lot to me, so please hit the like button and subscribe, and comment below. It does mean a lot to me.

Please teach us to understand Gregorian notation
Thank you for your comment. I'll work on something when I have time and will let you know ASAP. Would you prefer theory or practical exercises? Indeed I recorded another video where I touch in a practical way the notation going through a Gregorian book. Check the following link please: ua-cam.com/video/KmD4S5TyPN8/v-deo.html
Thank you! Connecting the modes to the psalm tones unlocks a lot for me.
Very happy to read your comment. Thank you very much!
Great job! To make it even better, think of slowing down the pace by a stricter observance of the prescribed pauses. Please keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comment. Certainly not for slowing down! You need to keep driving the melody!
.
Awesome I would like to see more about technique God bless you.
Thank you. Stay tuned!
Merci bien. Merci. Que notre bon Dieu vous bénisse.
Merci beaucoup @baxtercol !
are you able to share the gregorian cheat sheet
Yes for this we need to talk via Instagram private message please. @latingregorianchant
@@latingregorianchantcould I have a copy of you cheat sheet too please?
Amen
Hello from Scottsdale Arizona I grew up hearing Gregorian Chants I don’t sing but I am learning thank you for sharing your tips
Thank you for your kind comments! Glad if this can help.
What book is this please 😊
Graduale Triplex by Solesmes Abbey (France).
Uno de mis cánticos favoritos
one of the most inspiring video about singing Gregorian chant
Thank you very much! I am just giving what I received!
@@latingregorianchant how humble and blessed you are. I am from Indonesia where information about Gregorian chant is very limited.
Very happy that my few tips can help you!
Bene cantasti, amice. Spero te semper hic audire.
Gratias tibi @AmbrosiusEpiscopus! Vale!
I will sing this beautiful antiphon on May 19 2024..
In Jakarta or in Chartres? 😉
Merci beaucoup ❤
Please give us more tutorials.
Thank you very much for your kind message. Quite busy these months I will work on a new tutorial video this summer!

What I dislike is when people sing Gregorian chants with vibrato, which should not be used in the chants.
Agreed!
As the last liturgy of Easter Mass, we sing it every Sunday.
Thank you very much for sharing. Maybe due to language reasons (I am Chinese), I cannot accurately understand your explanation. I understand how to distinguish the eight modes of Gregorian chant, but I see that some of the examples you gave are very different from your mode cards. And I also discovered that although every Gregorian chant is marked with a mode, not all of them are composed strictly according to the mode. (It could also be a matter of my understanding) For example, Jesu Dulcis Memoria, The Liber Usualis, Solesmes, 1961, p. 452. It is the first mode, the final note is RE, the tonic is LA, but it ends on the tonic LA. I am leading our parish choir to learn Gregorian Psalm. Due to differences in language and culture and the lack of learning materials, there are some difficulties. However, we love Gregorian Psalm very much, and we very much hope to get your guidance and guidance. help. Could you give me a copy of your Mediationes in tonis psalmorum, although I don't fully understand its use yet. My email address: riverli.china@gmail.com. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for these lessons, as I'm trying to learn more about plainchant and the psalm tones i find your tips really helpful. If you don't mind, i'd have some questions as i'm trying to make a "cicit" myself (idk if it's the correct spelling😅). The main question is, what should it include to be complete? I know there are some particular modes like II* and peregrinus. Are there others to consider? In the video i can also see that mode 1 appears two times, probably two different versions of the first part of the psalm. Are there other important variations like that? Thanks again!
I can share my gregorian cheat sheet with you if you will!
👏👏👏💗🎼🎶🌹
Thank you! 😊
❤️🙏 Thank you very much 🙏❤️ Candor æternæ Deitatis alme, Christe, tu lumen, venia atque vita advenis, morbis hominum medela, porta salutis. Bright splendor of divinity, O Christ, our only life and light, You bring the sick a remedy, And set our crooked paths aright. Intonat terræ chorus angelorum cælicum carmen, nova sæcla dicens, gloriam Patri, generique nostro gaudia pacis. So let the angels' song resound, To usher in the age of grace And tell of glory all around, Proclaiming joy unto our race. Qui iaces parvus dominans et orbi, Virginis fructus sine labe sanctæ, Christe, iam mundo potiaris omni, semper amandus. You lie, an infant, ruling earth, Now rule our hearts forevermore, To whom a spotless Maid gave birth, O Christ, our most beloved Lord. Nasceris cælos patriam daturus, unus e nobis, caro nostra factus; innova mentes, trahe caritatis pectora vinclis. You came to give us heav'n above, As one of us, you took our flesh; Entwine our hearts with bonds of love And with your grace our minds refresh. Cœtus exsultans canit ecce noster, angelis læto sociatus ore, et Patri tecum parilique Amori cantica laudis. Behold we join the angels' song And cry to you with one accord, To whom all hymns of praise belong, The Holy Trinity, one Lord.

Hello, could you make a video talking about vocal techniques for singing Gregorian chant? I find it difficult to match my voice to that of people who sing Gregorian
Sure I’ll do that! And I Will let you know.
Where can I find some of the old recordings from Solesmes in the 50z, 60s? I have others who have told me t hat the recordings from this time were the best.
It’s quite easy. Just look for « Dom Joseph Gajard » and you will find these. For instance you can listen to this one : m.ua-cam.com/video/5b4zMKhXNqw/v-deo.html&pp=8AUB
Many thanks for sharing this tip. I found it difficult to connect the mode to the chant but now with your help it is easy. Now my question is : is there any difference between the 8 Gregorian Modes and the 8 Gregorian Psalm tones? Or it is the same thing? Thanks in advance
Thanks for your feedback! No there is no difference. Yet one very important thing to remember: various pieces of the repertoire, from the graduale book to the antiphonale, all have there specificities. They almost all are, basically, antiphonae which can be followed by the chant of psalms. For introits it is very clear. Same for graduale, offertorium, communio. While the melody of the psalms in Gregorian is more in the « Norm » of each mode. You hear systematically the same Melody (only the end can vary : f, g etc.). The gregorian pieces of the Mass can have a lot of variations and a very unique identity, Even if they were written with the standards of a given mode. Hence the importance of identifying the intervals before singing them, to really enter the unity of their melody driven by their mode: minor (v.g. re - mi - fa) / or major (v.g. fa - sol - la).
@@latingregorianchant Thank you once again for your prompt and clear reply. I'm going to follow the points highlighted in the video and your comments. Thank you for your videos
