How to disassemble a 2014-2020 Grom top end
I blew my motor this summer, dident have the money to take it on workshop, so i bought things myself and this man helped me soooo much!! Thankyou❤
Shortest and most informative video I’ve seen about this😃 I couldn’t figure out how to seat the clutch plates properly and definitely didn’t think about the bottom plate. Probably should take it apart 1 more time to make sure it’s all nice. Figured out the top plate just wish I knew about the bottom one 😅 Does it make a different what way the teeth are facing in the clutch plates? The last video I saw the guy said to have them facing you but who knows at this point
Tip - Use flathead to insert piston clips
How many hours labour do you estimate for replacing a blown head gasket on a 2014 Honda Grom? I ask this as one shop quoted me as 3.5 hours labour.
where did you order your new top end?
Where did you get the kit from
Are they that fragile? Or other factors involved.
Funny cause I keep a grey bandanna tied in the same spot on the left side in case I have too fool with something during a ride and my hands get greasy 😅
Great video helped me out a lot thanks man🤘🏻
Lube lube lube that wrist pin For anyone doing the same task… make sure rings are clocked 180° apart so there is minimal blow by
I am guessing you completely swapped the cylinder head. And the valve clearances were known to be in spec before, yes? It makes sense if you were trying to keep the vid as short as you could. i get that. When I do mine I will manually adjust the valve lash while I am in there with the timing plugs out, just to be thorough. It adds about 10 minutes to the job. I have never yet needed to adjust the valves on any of my groms because they went out of spec. No surprise. It is a Honda. And there are millions in existence. Too convenient to set it while younare already in there. Then you can ignore it until the piston needs to be replaced again.😊
I’ll be assembling mine with some oil in the pin through the piston and the rod. Otherise it’ll be an extra dry fire the first time it gets cranked.
Do you need to file the rings? Or just straight in?
NICE AND CLEAR AND UNDERSTANDABLE I MUST SUBCRIBE
Which top end kit dod you go with? Also my bike is burning oil and maybe knocking coukd be the valves but will a top end knock as well?
Yes could be piston knock too
How often do you recommend doing a grom top end?
Would gas in Oil be a symptom of needing a top end rebuild on a 14 grom?
Yes exactly. Rings failing allowing petrol in your oil.
Change that oil regularly
T- top dead center. F- Fire
Sweet just ordered my cam and tune this past week
Tore down a top end in 5 minutes 1 handed 🔥🔥
Thanks for the video, Dumb question maybe but can I do all this without having to drain the oil?
Just drain the oil its like $6 a quart lol but if you really need to lay the bike on its side. You still need to oil up the cylinder and piston so you need clean oil for that.
What a silly question bro, definitely worth draining the oil!!
Ya made that look simple! One hand and all!
Cam replacement with one hand. Impressive :)
It was absolute necessary to back the valves out before the stock cam would move… thank you
Can I just bring me bike to you and you help me do it
Great, clear video. Thanks fella 👍🤙🍺
Excellent video! Detailed where it needs to be. Are you running stock sprocket 15/38 with stock exhaust with cam/intake? I am leaning toward an ecu flash / S1 cam / chimera intake (stock exhaust) for my build. Should be stealthy with a little more on the highway.
Great video 💙👊
What gas are you running with the stage2?
Since it still has the stock piston, compression ratio hasn't changed. It will be fine with 87 octane.
You didn't clock the rings. The gaps are supposed to be evenly spaced away from each other.
Elaborate further.
@@xandyjacob5122 ring gaps openings 120 degrees apart
I never tourqe anything, impact gun all the way, but when you ugga duggad the cam bolts, i nearly died! one ugga dugga to much and boom! snapped/stripped head bolt...
Thank you for taking the time to share this. Very helpful.
What happened to this engine? oil consumption?
I couldn’t get the damn sprocket back on, ended up breaking the tab trying to make sure I was in center still. Fml.
LOL same
C Casteel hopefully your new one will be in in less than a week.
This guy is the GOAT
So stock compared to the cam you feel a difference
Lay something flat across the bolts to hold up the piston while putting the last clip in.
You work faster one handed than most shops do normally.
I missed how you took the exhaust off since you cut the video. 😂
Man are these bikes just the coolest or what
Wow you really made that look easy. Good job thank you
What kinda bike is that
Yamaha mt/fz07
I just pick my 2022 up 3 weeks ago…It’s 100% stock and I’m hitting 72mph (I’m 135 Wet) I can’t even image my weight on your bike I bet you I would be hitting high 70s maybe even break 80
Edit: I recently hit 75mph…
That's moving for having a big man on the bike. I suspect with a bigger jug and a 4v head, that thing would be angry! I can't wait to get my hands on one of these guys.
That’s moving pretty good definitely interested in that cam for my 2022
Same
Nice ua-cam.com/video/vnjRNz81MFs/v-deo.html
The grom's valve clearances are listed on the sticker on the clutch side swingarm. IN 0.08 +/- 0.02mm , EX 0.20 +/- 0.02mm (cold). You were way off on the exhaust valve.
Those numbers are for stock cam . I believe dhm reccomends. 005 both top and bottom
@@tonyromo4778 u right idk what I was thinking 🤔
Wish I would have seen this before I did mine.
Damn. She definitely scoots… 70mph ain’t no joke on that grom.. nice video bro.. 👍👍👍
No torque wrench?
so much wrong with this vid, it should be called how to improperly install cam in a 2022 grom. you bang the cam down on the metal lift/bench, should have lined marks up BEFORE takin things apart, should have used assembly lube on lobes, no torque specs used upon reassembly, but hey it ran right? performance does seem impressive from what I have seen from stockers on the top end, how does it feel on the bottom end? still as strong as stock or a little spongier on the bottom end but makes up fast in mid/top end?
Thanks for the comment bill really helps the ratings!!! Sorry you don’t like my video maybe you should go make your own version and save the masses from these critical mistakes that are still operating without flaw as are my many other happy customers bikes I’ve built. You have your way i have mine🤘🏻
@@dfwgromshop5622 or maybe you can learn to do it properly. stuff that gets less then 1500 miles a year won't show your mistakes anytime soon, so your safe until the word gets out. Noobs have to start someplace though, good luck to ya lil buddy.
