This is a quick tutorial on how to recreate the particle sim audio visualizer i created a few weeks ago
Blender Audio Visualizer Particle Sim remake (high bitrate reupload)

Decided to remake my older particle sim visualizer to look nicer while working on a tutorial for this effect. With some luck I should be done with it by the end of the week. Song is Swoop141 by Kwon (UA-cam sound library)
Particle Audio Visualizer in Blender 3.3 Alpha

Spent the day messing around with Blender particles sims. I originally tried to simulate it with 1 million particles, but after reaching a page file size of 105gb, it crashed my video driver. This is the most it could handle at 100,000 particles. Song is Origin Pt 2 by Overwerk

If you want to use Eevee, just put a instance on points node after the mesh to points node and connect an ico sphere node to the instance part.
2:05 How do we get to the modifier menu? Doesn't show up when I do this. ('N' key)
Very cool and useful. Subbed! Thanks.
Hi, after u add the particles the mesh of the ico sphere disappears for you, but mine didn't :/
dude when I import the alembic there is nothing, I have already exported it 3 times, I made sure to keep the icosphere selected before importing but still ntg works, do you think you can help me?
How would you go about isolating specific frequencies?
When you use Sound to Samples there are settings for minimum and maximum frequencies. Also, you may want to use a tool like ultimate vocal remover to isolate specific instruments.
@dentechs amazing! This was always such a pain in adobe after effects.
Not everyone likes to be taught something as if they were a child. All I can say is that my first Blender project was this Visualizer, and I'm happy about 2 things, 1: That you exist, and therefore took the time to create and share this tutorial. 2: That you showed what control you were using at the bottom right of the screen. I love this tutorial so much, I hope you can understand that I also love you for being the first actor of this happiness. lmao Just one thing, maybe you'll be quicker to answer me than I'll be to find the answer, your control wasn't visible there, at this moment 7:33 how did you link those three nodes?
It’s shift + right click to create a reroute node IIRC
@@dentechs Thank you very much 😚
For ppl who can't see particles after 4:50, using a "point to vertices" before "mesh to points" worked for me.
Thank you very much !
Nice Idea, nice tut. The next step must be to use fractals as dynamic patterns... . :D I will give this a try on weekend.
Awesome video, simple yet elegant. An ambient occlusion node in between the emission and color ramp does some pretty cool stuff if you boost render settings.
Hi. Great tutorial but i have a problem. When I hide the Icosphere at 4:54 the particles disappear. I'm using 4.2.0
Did you find a solution for that?
@@amirnaseri8793 No. To be honest I completely forgot about this.
I'm guessing this won't work on the quest 2?
The quest 2 does not have eye tracking built in. You would need to add it externally, either the DIY way with EyeTrackVR or wait for a commercial solution to release such as Inseye
@@dentechs I get eye tracking wouldn't work, I was talking about the rest
What rest? All this is doing is displaying eye tracking information. Without eye tracking what’s left?
@@dentechs "Full inside out body tracking support"
Oh I’m sorry, I thought you were commenting on a different video of mine 🤣 Yes the quest 2 can use full body estimation, it doesn’t have arm tracking like the quest 3 but the estimation is still quite good. It’s the same as the quest pro.
What if you baked the sound to the f curves of the turbulence as well?
thanks dude! that saved me a buck from thinking of paying for After effects... Blender it's a bless!
Varjo Aero?
Quest Pro with Virtual Desktop and a program I wrote to capture and display the data.
1:53 bake sound to F curve > sound to samples (in Channel) Blender 4+
are you able to aim where you shoot with just your eyes?
in blender 4.1, and the object when imported just looks like smooth shaded cubes not the spheres
Hi, you know at 4:18 you got those Five sections which are "Tool", "View", "AudVis", "ShortCut VUr", "HDRI SunAligner". I'm using the same version as you, 3.2, and I only have "Tool" and "View" sections. Maybe you know how to make appear other three sections that you have? In the video you using "ShortCut VUr", i'm on that step..
Those are from additional plugins, for example Screencast Keys to show key presses on the screen: github.com/nutti/Screencast-Keys
@@dentechs I appreciate the quick answer, I will try.
@@dentechs I installed it, there was about 10 add-ons to that section that appeared, but the "ShortCut VUr" wasn't there. Do you know what to do in that situation? Maybe you have that specific "ShortCut VUr" add-on file that you could email me?
Screencast keys is a newer/better plugin. But here’s the link to the old plugin I was using, which is literally called “shortcut vur” if you were to google for it: github.com/jayanam/shortcut_VUr
It's fine I found it in google.
question, for these music visualizers is there a way to make it such that it simply reacts to music played in the surroundings of your laptop instead of having to upload an edm track for it to show? Basically I want to make one where you can play any spotify song and it react accordingly instead of uploading a specific music.
Got question… 1. Will this work in tandem with SteamVR trackers, allowing for both VD FBE AND FBT? 2. With hand tracking- what do they mean precisely? Hand tracking while in controller use, or hand tracking ingame without controllers? Because hand tracking estimation is trash on VD in VRChat.
Is there any more info about this?
Waiting so hard for this rn
(I have a quest 3 and would love to test) :P
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Wait so this is hand, full body, face and eye tracking all with just the quest pro headset?? Or am I misunderstanding 😅 If that is the case then that's insanely impressive and has me asking so many questions, like how does it track when, say, your hands go behind your body?
With the power of friendship and magic!
How soon is it coming tho :o
👍
woah 😮
❤
I approve of this
Bake sound to F-curve is now Sound to Samples in the channel drop down. Just incase anyone else is looking for this.
Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, i was genuenly losing my mind over this 🙏
hi! i was wondering if there was a way to make a scene where i had other objects and this audio reactive one where it wouldnt collide with the other meshes but rather even avoid them. how could i do that? thanks :)
You could give the objects the rigid body property for the particles to hit them, or you can give them the force field property for the particles to avoid them
Awesome, thank you! Can you please suggest which program/how to create beautiful slow motion effects like this? ua-cam.com/video/jgm58cbu0kw/v-deo.htmlsi=qm2xFbjX8AknLgG6&t=1387
What great music! why there are so few likes here, good luck in the development of the channel.
Awesome! Are planning on making the tutorial?
Probably not for this one, it’s pretty rough around the edges
How to sell audio visualizer flie in gumroad or other website
Hey when I bake my blender shuts down without any warning and looses the file…. Do you know how I can fix that ? I’m on a Mac book pro rn and my blender is 3.64
My first guess would be that you’re running out of memory, try reducing the number of particles to a low number like 1,000 and reducing the # of frames. If it works then, increase those 2 as high as you can before it crashes.
@@dentechs thank you so much ! I’ll try this out.
Any advice on after baking the curve my particles fly away the second I hit play on the music …
When could you do a tutorial?
i cant bake it at 1:55 for some reason
oh i found it under channel!
Hi, i am in the compositing part, once i connect the Glare to the viewer and composite, it does not change anything, i need help pls
me too
don't get me wrong this is a good tutorial but you must say in the title that this is for cycles only.
Hey! What shortcut do you use at 2:00? Cannot open the active f-curve pannel... (Noob) Thank you! =)
Oh, weird that the key press visualizer didn’t show it, it should be “N” iirc?
@@dentechs thank you🙏
Great stuff, thanks for sharing!
1:31 why do my particles shrink instead of moving forward?
Probably because your radius is set too small
Does it have to be a particle system for this effect to work? Or could you hypothetically use a distribute points and instance node in geonodes to make a similar effect?
You can do it a dozen different ways, at the end of the day it’s just driving a variable with the f-curve. I did actually make an example with geo nodes but I never ended up making a guide for it: ua-cam.com/video/A4HDazNjN6k/v-deo.html
@@dentechs that’s awesome, your channel is seriously underrated
You can use the F-Curve on anything that can be keyframed. I've used it on an array modifier to drive the array count, trickier because it only accepts integers where the f-curve produces values between 0 and 1 so you have to scale the F-Curve on the graph editor to your liking to get it to do what you want if working with integer feilds.
Simulation used 16gb of my ram and Blender has crashed.
You can lower the number of particles to use less ram, I have a pretty powerful system so I can crank it up.
@@dentechs oh thanks. now in my second try after frame 50 simulation disappears.
i forgot to change lifetime. lesson learned by making a mistake.
When exported baked animation (it shows 2.5GiB in Blender) the alembic file is just 600KB. And when I import this alembic into new scene it's empty. Did I miss something? Thanks.
It worked somehow when I unchecked Hair export.
Trying to follow along with this without pausing literally every 2 seconds to go back and see what you clicked is nutty. Eesh. I'm happy that the steps are there, but this is about as beginner friendly as debuting in boxing by fighting Tyson.
Yeah not for beginners for sure. Slow the video down probably
- You're not wrong, took me a couple of attempts, first attempt filled up my 16gb of RAM, had to shorten audio to 55 seconds, and still the result was not as reactive as I'd hoped.
genuinely, he had no idea how to do tutorials. there are several spaces he completely neglected to show the process for what he was doing. i just downloaded blender a few hours ago and this is cool and slightly helpful but really annoying how he didn't explain how to do half the stuff. i'm only kinda following along because i've tried (and failed) with other tutorials 💀💀
🎉 stereo-obsessed guy here. Excellent.
I actually made this months ago and completely forgot to make it public 😅
A great tutorial for people who already know how to use Blender's UI
