Pappaw and Josey Homesteading
United States
Приєднався 4 чер 2017
Follow along with Josey (granddaughter) and I (Pappaw) as we try to take our homestead from a sandy rocky wasteland (logged forest) in southern Ky. to a self-sustaining homestead. We have Kunekune pigs, goats, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, and one sheep. We saw our own firewood and hand split it all, and we started a garden to grow some of our own food. Come along on our journey as we learn new things and make many mistakes. Hope you enjoy our videos and can help us out by subscribing.

Lots of work getting done, joesy with her glasses. We have so many trees to still come down. Thank you for sharing till next time God Bless.
Josey is having fun playing with the baby bunnies ❤️
Looks like you're going to have plenty of firewood - I guess that makes up for the fence.
tree on the fence, just a little extra work. You will be done with these trees before long
That dang fence is in the way! It probably keeps moving on you.
Like last time, fences can be fixed. It will be ok. I also make the kids stay away when we are felling trees - even if you think you know where they are going to go, they could always twist or turn during the fall and not hit where you plan. Hopefully no more tree fails for you guys.
That sketchy one looks like it came down just right. Good thing you got it down and not risk it falling later. That is crazy on the seed - it does make you wonder.
Glad to see a bright and beautiful day. So happy to see that you got a good number of babies. Always smart to keep them by themselves for a while till you know how the mommas are going to react. I knew with your positive attitude and dedication you'd figure it out! Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties but hopefully you and Josey have a great day tomorrow.
Hey Trey, it was really bright that day for sure. All the babies are still doing great, it's got a lot cooler hopefully they're big enough to handle the cooler weather. It took a while and with the help of Buck we got it figured out. I finally got the phone figured out, I'm not good with all the electronics' stuff. Everything has been going great hope you're doing good and having a good week. Thanks Trey
You might try a nest box next
Hey Buck, I usually do I didn't this time, not sure why. But they both did great thanks for your advice it really come in handy.
@joeydamrell1860 ok I use shredded paper in my nest boxs
Yes hay dose work I use nesting boxes, I line with pine shavings, then I put hay for them to eat but they will put hay in the box dig around the pine shavings. I bred 5 but as of yesterday only three has had kits one is due today the other one I don't think she took. Thank you for sharing, till next time God Bless.
I've not had very good luck with wire cages in the past (with the white doe) even using nesting boxes and putting hay in. Thanks
Good advice, Buck. Joey, it sounds like you know as much about all this technology as I do. Lol.
I have a lot of issues with it all lol. It took me a long time to figure out all the You Tube stuff and still have a lot to figure out. Thanks Gregg
That's great news! We use hay in the nest boxes as well, sometimes I even help the does pull extra fur if they don't pull enough. Great to hear they are doing well.
Yes, finally, the white doe is the one I had problems with, hopefully we have it all worked out.
i hate city water, i refuse to drink it. so i buy all my water that i drink
We do also, and we buy our drinking water, but the animals do drink it. We have a spring down the hill I do want to use some day.
Did you get your water tested? is it toxic?
No, I haven't but I don't believe it would be toxic. I think it just has a lot of chorine . Thanks John
I’d say all in all, that went pretty well.
Yes, it did but wait till Wednesday's video lol. Thanks Gregg
Glad that you are hopefully done with the sketchy trees - dropping them is the worst part for me. Once they are on the ground I don't mind working with them. We have a few dead trees that are hung up on other trees that we need to get on the ground yet this fall. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with them.
Hope so, they can be pretty dangerous like that.
Where's Memaw
When not at work she is usually inside, she doesn't like the outside as much as Josey and me.
@joeydamrell1860 So nice to get a reply...keep up the good work 👏

Great video, Joey. Yep, we all got to keep on keeping on!
Thank you, Gregg, I know a lot of people who work really hard at a job, but without a boss to drive them they just can't do it.
I just found your videos. So sweet.
Thank you, hope you enjoy.
i love your last point about being your own boss, and own motivator.
I've seen and known people who do work really hard for someone else but just can't do it when it's just them on their own. Thanks John
Looks like a beautiful day outside and piglets are healthy as ever. Sorry you've been having such a rough couple days. Sometimes hurting your leg is just the worst especially if it affects the quality of sleep. That hand mower did the perfect trick. Can't have the good without the bad. The best good days are the good days you make from bad days. I completely agree if you don't have bad days then you're definitely doing nothing. Your dedication and will power are always admirable. Hopefully you and Josey have a great day tomorrow and a blessed Sunday tomorrow!
Hey Trey, Thank you always for your encouragement and complements. Hope everything is going great for you.
@@joeydamrell1860 you’re a good man it’s been a blessing just to share the planet with you. You’re awesome!
@@treyalefteras8498 Thank you so much!
Awww--- the kune kune babies are just adorable
Thank you.
Oh man, I am glad your didn't hurt your ankle to bad. Tree work can be dangerous.
Yes it can. It had me worried for a bit.
You did a very good job! Impressive how you pull off the skin with your hands! 🙂 Always impressive when the back and spine got visible. It has a very prominent spine your rabbit!
Thanks, first one I've done. We always watched my uncles do rabbits as kids and I watched some You Tube vides and used a mixture of it all. Thanks for the comment
@@joeydamrell1860 You will do more in the future? :)
@@koboc7391 I usually try selling them first, this was the first time in 2 years I had some that didn't sell, I wouldn't mind processing more in the future, Josey really enjoyed eating rabbit nuggets. Thanks
Nice dadding 👏
Thanks
That’s the biggest teeter-totter I’ve ever seen!
It kept her entertained for a while, till I moved it lol she didn't like that very much. Thanks Gregg she had fun for a while.
Oragon I cant spell. but in 35 years never seen a chain stretch as much as yours!
I think Lowes use to carry them; I definitely will check into it. Thanks
Too bad about the fence but it could have been worse
Yes, could have been. I always worry about the power lines and making all the neighbors mad and probably having to pay to get it fixed. Getting ready to saw a big one that is leaning over my neighbor's camper hopefully it's goes without problem. Thanks
@@joeydamrell1860 absolutely. My husband likes to cut trees when I'm at work and it makes me so nervous. I always tell him he's got to keep checking in with me so I know something didn't go wrong.
@@templinacres2299 Yeah my wife doesn't like watching or being around while I'm doing stuff like that.
The fence is a easy cheap fix!
@@jwfinley7808 I have the wire just have to fix it.
Sawing wood is always dangerous. I’m glad you weren’t seriously injured. I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets his saw stuck in a tree.
I should have split them before trying to pick them up. It had me worried for a minute. You are definitely not the only one, I do it all the time. Thanks Gregg hope you're doing good.
Oh man! Sorry that happened! 😢
Stuff happens, I always heard if something doesn't go wrong sometimes you aren't doing nothing. Tomorow is a new day. Thanks
😂 the right tool for the right job
Yep, it's definitely got the job done. I love that saw.
Oh my goodness!!! Precious!!!❤❤❤
Thank you.
I never get tired of the babies - thank you for sharing :)
Side note - my second youngest has a soft spot for any of the "blue" colored chickens, not sure why, but he just loves them.
Us either.
@@templinacres2299 These are sapphire gem crossed with barred rock rooster, I like the blue color also.
My husband has three stil saws a 461 with abd 20", 28", and a 31" bar, then he has a 271 which he doesn't like an american made saw, it has a 20" and the his small saw a 261 he loves that saw it's light dude amazing on gas. It has a 20" bar I just went and got him three new chains for it they were $57.50 each. Lots of babies thank you for sharing till next time God Bless.
I do need a bigger saw for some of the trees I saw, but they get expensive. Thank you
Lots of babies on the homestead!
Yes, I think one rabbit had 9 the other looks like 4 then the 4 chicks and 7 pigs. Of course, Josey's favorite is the piggies. Thanks Gregg
Well you got ‘‘em sawed up, anyway.
Hey Gregg, yes, but there's is more to see coming up in this week's videos. Definitely had some ups and downs. Everything works out in the end. Thanks Gregg, I appreciate your comments.
Put a longer bar on your saw
I did ask about that, the guy at the saw shop said they couldn't put a 18" bar on that saw. I'm not sure why, but I did notice that the saws with the 18" bar have a double bolt to hold the bar, mine just has one bolt. I would like to have a bigger bar but would like a bigger saw also, but they get expensive the bigger you go. I borrowed my neighbors saw on tommorows video I love that saw. Thanks Buck
@@joeydamrell1860 you can

@@buckreynolds7475 I'll check more into it.
@@buckreynolds7475 I will, I may have to look online. Thanks Buck
Take it and get a link out of it
Hey Buck, I was going to, but when I checked on getting it done it cost $12 to get a link took out and only $14 for a new chain, so I just bought new chains. Now chain have got a bit higher $18 now, I haven't checked on prices of the links again.
Looks like a beautiful day outside. Hopefully moving them in the morning goong nice and smoothly for you! Did all your pigets get claimed or is it still just willow? Everythings looking good and gotta love the ingenuity uou have. Even if things are frustrating you always find a solution or make it work. Hope you and Josey have a great day tomorrow!
Hey Trey, yes, the weather has been great cooled off some today making it feel wonderful. Most of these animals move pretty good so I don't have many problems with them. Willow and the black with the white belt around her sold to the same lady. I really haven't tried selling them yet she seen a post on FB and messaged me and wanted those two. It was a little rough day today, but all is good you'll see that video on Thursday everyday can't be perfect, I guess. Hope everything is good with you, have a good one.
Always busy running a homestead, Billy and I got 21 trees taken down on our 4 acres that we are taking all the trees down for our horse pasture. Day light is getting shorter as the days goes by. It's dark here as of here yesterday at 7:30 pm. Not sure how many we can get done this week. Bc of my husband work schedule. All looks great Joey. Thank you for sharing. Till next time God Bless.
You are right always busy. I know it's a lot of work I hope y'all get it done safely. I used to love sawing trees down but it's starting to get a little old, seeing the clear land for pasture keeps me going though. Daylight is about the same here too. Thanks
Always something to catch up on, have a great week!
Never ends lol
Awww belly rubs
They do love them
Those piglets are adorable ❤
Thank you
Gotta say love the song at the beginning and happy to see it stopped raining. Good to hear you're going to be able to get that crop in. Super cute to see Josey kick the mushrooms over lol. My dogs are like that too just hams. Not aggressive but love talking to everything and everyone. Rye should work well for you. We never had a year it didn't grow when we planted it. Hopefully you and Josey have a great rest to your week!
Hey Trey, happy to hear that as I'm not very good at music at all. I've taught Josey to not touch them because I'm not sure what's what, so she just kicks them. Dogs can be weird lol. I'm hoping it will do well, I'd like to see all that covered in green. Hope your week goes great as well have a good one. Thanks Trey
More woods that’s what I’ve been told
I've heard that also, I hate seeing places that have been stripped down to nothing and/or made into a subdivision or parking lot, down here it's storage buildings for boats. If you have noticed I've left quite a few, taking out enough to get grass to grow and most are not good trees most were left from logging (hollow, bent or leaning, or just a growth from a stump). Thanks for commenting.
Gary stop sticking yr nose where it dnt belong...😂😂
Yes, thank you
Looking forward to seeing what it looks like.
Me also, hopefully it comes up lol. Thanks Gregg
