Why I use blocking wires to block straight edge knit shawls
Thank you so very much for sharing this, you are a very talented teacher 🙏
GREAT! thank you so much ! very good explantions. have a nice day! kris
Thank you for your kind words, Kris! I'm glad you found the explanations helpful. Have a fantastic day!
Thanks for making videos on different styles! Now I can try them out and see which feels most natural!
Exactly 😉 I'm currently using the flicking method bc of some pain in my left wrist. It's always good to test out new ways.
Very clear concise tutorial. But everyone makes twin stitches unnecessarily complex. Don't bother with picking up loops and transferring stitches from right to left! You already have the needle in the stitch below. So just go right on and knit or purl it! Then place that loop on the left needle. DONE!!
That's a great short cut, happy it works for you.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have watched a few explanations of Judy's Magic Cast on, and yours was the only one I could follow clearly. Really appreciate it!
You're very welcome!
After trying 4 other videos (and ripping it out each time, I finally stumbled upon your video. FANTASTIC chart and explanation. My yarn is loosely spun fuzzy, splitty alpaca, and so to do the twisted K into the purl stitch (step 4), I pulled the yarn through between the stitches to the front, and then it was easy to K that purl stitch on. Thank you SO MUCH. You've saved my mittens - and my sanity. SUBSCRIBED <3
I've been there with loosely spun yarn with this bind off. I'm so glad you were able to save your mittens!
Wow❤
Excellent teaching video on this bind-off technique! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Here i am again 😅😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Welcome back 🤣
Hi Ellen, Thank you for your excellent video and the memory tool. I only internalised these steps after following your graphic instructions. So clear. You have nailed how to get your message through to even a novice knitter! Actually I have just finished knitting a vest and the whole process has been done via UA-cam tutorials. Your tutorial is, however, unique. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! Congratulations on finishing your new vest!
The first sewn bind off tutorial that has made any sense!! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for sharing this. 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Too many times I've seen new knitters discouraged by a poorly written pattern.
You are amazing. Finally I understood 😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
😁 Thank you! I'm so happy this video is helping so many people.
Best video
Thank you 🥰
I love that shawl so much Those are my colours, and I'd like to try that yarn.
Thank you! Now that the weather is chilly again I've been snuggling in it again.
I love this video but am having issues with the bind off as I’m not sure my stitches are sitting on the needle as the ones in the video so I might be twisting them wrong, in my case the left leg of stitches is in front and right leg in back, is this correct? Thank you so much!
Hmm, that's a tricky one. To not twist the stitches as you work the bind off you will want focus on the right leg with the instructions. If that's too difficult, I would slip your stitches to a needle to have the right leg on the front of the needle.
thanks so much! I tried and it worked
hooray!!
Great video, thank you!
This is an excellent tutorial. Clear and concise and the chart helps the technique sink in.
Best tutorial! I was confused before finding this video but this made complete sense. Thanks you
Is there a way to pad the heel turn!
What if your round starts with purl and not a knit? How do I set it up?
Wow! This is so clear and easy to understand and follow! Thank you.
Do you have an explanation video of the first steps if the first stitch is a purl?
Great video, thank you. I just did this bind-off on a sleeve and easily recalled what to do. I've had trouble with other videos on this method. Thanks again, Anne, Tasmania 🦘
Think it's one of the worse tutorials I've come across
Brilliant instructions and I love the memory chart! I've done this bind off before, but I think this is one of the clearest videos!
One of the worst videos I have watched. Far too much talking and no smooth flow of how to work the stitches. I just gave up and going to look for a better video
So if my ribbing starts with a purl, my first two stiches need to be k the purl und p the knit, then continue according to your guide... right? UPDATE: was finally able to test it and it works just fine. Thank you so much for this amazing pictogram!
Hello, thank you for the excellent tutorial. What if the first stitch is a purl. E.g., Lulu slipover placket by petiteknits?
What is the difference with the Tubular Bind off?
What a relief to find your video. Watching other videos, I kept ripping out, then forgetting where I was. Aargh! Your mnemomic and crystal clear instructions made all the difference. Thank you!
Thank you for having made the chart! I finally get it only after having followed your tutorial. You are an amazing teacher! Thank you Ellen.
So incredibly helpful! Thank you!
This is by far the best tutorial. I come back to it every time I need to do this bind off!
Total flicker. I tried every other way, and it’s the only method that feels natural. I also wrap my yarn weird; two counter-clockwise turns on the pinky, one on the middle, and over the index. For some reason I have a hard time maintaining tension, and that’s the only thing that works for me. I’m not TERRIBLY fast, but I’d say I’m not too bad for someone who’s been knitting 7 months.
How long should have have in the needle before cutting off and starting this process?
I'm making the Zipper Sweather by Petite Knits and it calls for an Italian bind off. Mind you I have never done this type of bind off before. And let me tell you, I was able to grasp the concept very quick and easy. However, no one every mentioned that it literally takes forever to do. I've been binding off the body ribbing of my sweater for two days now. I'm thrilled with the outcome but come on Italian bind off, just work faster hahah.
Thank you so much. This is my go to video when I’m doing this bind off. It is so easy to follow. You’re a great teacher.
Thank you!!! What a fantastic tutorial?! Echoing the sentiments of those before me, this is the first time I’ve managed to understand what’s going on
So many knitting videos by people who can knit but have no idea how to teach knitting. FINALLY, a clear, concise video, including a simple chart, that actually teaches how to knit the stitch. Thank you!
You are a star teacher and definitely my "go to" for video tutorials. Thanks for keeping it simple xx
this was the best, clearest, simplest tutorial on how to do this I found! Now LOVE the italian bind off!
Brilliant, thanks so much 😊
The absolute best tutorial.
Very logical- a game changer for me!
What about a cuff down version?! Great tutorial!!!❤
I haven't done it myself but I've heard the cuff down version is called a Strong Heel.
If your first stitch is a purl stitch, does that change your set up stitches?
This is the first time in my 25 years of knitting that I actually learned how to sew an Italian bind off!! I have given up on it in so many projects and I can only wish I had seen your video before. It’s amazing!! And the mnemonic is absolutely genius!! Thank you soooo much for that! This is gold 👌🏼
I'm so happy my video got you over the hump! I love a good mnemonic :)
With the increases would doing a kfb instead of the m1l(r) change the shaping or would it be ok? Thank you for this video, i have made a few pair of socks with a basic heel flap and always had holes at the heel
The shaping shouldn't change switching to a kfb. Give it a test and see if you like the look of the stitch, that's the only difference I can think of.
Thrower for life 😂
Respect :)
