Hi there, I'm Alison Hood and I live in the southwest of Western Australia.
I have always loved doing art and am now having heaps of fun doing art with fluid acrylics.
Through this UA-cam channel I will be sharing with you my art journey in fluid acrylics. I have learned so much from generous artists via UA-cam and want to give back to others what I have learned.
Please subscribe - it's free!
Comments are always welcome and please give me the thumbs up when you enjoy one of my videos, as that is always much appreciated.
BTW, I am not a professional when it comes to videoing, and I fit them in and amongst what is happening at home. I breed pedigree Labrador Retrievers and they all live in the house and so there are often dog noises in the background. I appreciate your understanding
I've started a channel with videos of my dogs and puppies. If you are interested in checking them out, here is the link: ua-cam.com/channels/StYMr3s-YW_hD-8vZB2B-Q.html

Where did you get your open cuff bracelets I really like those and would like to purchase some
Hi Laurie, Thank you for alerting me to the fact that I hadn't put the link to the bangles in the description field. I have done that now. So, please go to the description below the video and you will find the link which I have listed as Bangles. This should take you to the same or similar item in your country. Please let me know if it doesn't work. Thank you, Alison x
What is the substance you use to put on the golf tee?
Between the glass cabochon and the golf tee is poster putty.
Loved your work . I am looking at doing the same and have made some ,but have know idea how much to charge ,help needed .also it’s a worry when they talk about skins with silicone in it , I don’t know what would happen
Hi Linda, Thank you very much. I don't use silicone in my paints for jewellery - ever! If the oil got between the glass and the paint, it would mean that the paint would not stick to the glass in that area. If using dried paint (skins), you would need to treat it in such a way to avoid that happening with the skins, such as rubbing alcohol. Though I don't do skins, so I am no expert on that. As far as charging, I would suggest going to your local markets and seeing what they are selling their similar quality jewellery for. People from different locations are likely willing to spend differently on luxury items, such as jewellery. I live in the south west of Western Australia and I sell my jewellery mainly through a little shop in a town where the main road passes through, so there are a lot of tourists passing by and so that helps with my sales. I started off selling my earrings at $20AU and also my pendants at $20AU. That was about four years ago. I now sell them for $27AU. I also sell earrings and pendants as sets. You would have seen in the video how I put them in little display boxes (which I buy from Amazon - I will put the link in the description area). I am currently selling the sets for around $45. The sets sell very well as people like to give them as gifts. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and good luck with your creations, Alison
Gorgeous
Thank you Laurie 🥰
Thank you, your work is beautiful. How do you price your jewelry.
Thank you! When I started, I priced earrings at $20AU a pair and $20 for a pendant as well as $35 for a set. That was four years ago. I now sell them for $27 for a pair of earrings and $27 for a pendant and $45 for a set. This is in Australian dollars. I mainly sell them from a local art and craft shop and they sell quite well.
Beautiful! Thank you for showing us the finished pieces along with the process!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment and encouragement 🥰💕
Nice sharing
Thanks for watching. Best wishes, Alison Hood 💕
Beautiful ❤ you dry them..domt they drip over 😊
Thank you. No, they don't drip over as long as they are kept fairly level. 🥰
I got my order to make the jewelry looking forward to starting on it tomorrow how long does it take for the paint to dry when you dip it
Oh, how exciting Linda! The drying time depends, somewhat, on the weather conditions where you are. They will dry faster in a warm, dry climate than in a wet or humid climate. In our summer here in Western Australia, I find that it only needs a few days to dry thoroughly. Though, I usually like to wait a week or so, to be sure. Have fun! I'd love to hear how you go. Best wishes, Alison 🥰💕
Your technique is amazing, all are beautiful
Thanks so much 😊 That is very kind of you to say and I really appreciate it. 🥰💕
I think the rain would be okay if it was a smaller Stone it just seems to large
Yes, I agree. I prefer the smaller rings. Thanks.
The colors in those pieces are absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you Tracie! Yeah! I was very happy with that pour and the many places to dip the cabochons in for some pretty jewellery. The longer video shows a lot more (of course🫠). Thanks heaps for watching it. 💕
@@artwithalison You're so welcome!
Super pretty Alison 🩷
Thanks heaps Tracie! I really appreciate your comment 💕
What kind of paint are you using? Acrylic? Brand? Special Type (Heavy Body, Soft Body, Fluid, Ink acrylics)?
I use acrylic paint. If you watch the video, at 2.23 I tell you what I used. I used Eraldo acrylic paint. This is an Australian brand but it is simply a soft body acrylic paint. I also used Liquitex Basics I mix it with Floetrol. If you would like to see how I mix my paints, I have a video where I show you what I do. It is video #182 ua-cam.com/video/DsRC3pciP0g/v-deo.html .
It was amazing you did an awesome job I want to try to do the same thing you did I've been doing acrylic pores and everything but this I think I really care for it a lot may I ask you what you do with the excess paint that you don't use do you store it somehow
Thank you Linda! 🥰 When I finish, I scrape up what is left of the paint and put it in an airtight container and use it again in another pour. Often the colour turns out lovely, if not, I sometimes add black to it to make a very dark colour, or use it as a flow extender.
@@artwithalisonanswering back with me I enjoy doing this ever since I started watching you also a set of earrings and necklace
Thank you! By theway I love love love dogs.
Thanks so much! I have a UA-cam channel and a Facebook Page called Jarrahgum Labradors, if you are interested. I've got two litters at the moment and so there's sure to be a lot of puppy photo spam 🤣🐶😍🐕🤣
WOW! Amazing colour palette, it looks gorgeous! ❤❤
Thank you! I really appreciate you telling me 🥰
Can you please show how you mix your paints before you make the patterns .
Hi Debbie, my video #182 shows how I mix my paint for doing the jewellery. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/DsRC3pciP0g/v-deo.html Best wishes, Alison 🥰
Wow! Soooo stunning! A genius technique. Thank you so much for sharing your pearls of wisdom us. ❤ I have a dumb question - how did you make the resin piece to fit so perfectly in the metal vessels? Is there a specific tutorial you did for that part? 🙏
Thank you for watching and for your very supportive comments. Your question is not dumb at all! The pieces which the paint is put on and fit into the settings is actually glass. They are called cabochons and are made to fit into the settings. If you look in the description area, below the video, there is a list of all the products used, including the cabochons and settings with links to where you can buy them from. If you use any of these links to get into Amazon and then buy something, I will receive a small commission, yet it won't cost you any extra. Thank you for your question. Best wishes, Alison 💕
@@artwithalison Aah, silly me, I should have looked earlier, sorry, I see your link now. :-) You are an amazing teacher by the way. Thank you again.
Awww, you are ever so kind. Thank you! Made my day! 💕💓💕
Gorgeous! Thanks for showing us!
My pleasure!! Thank you for watching and for your kind comment 🥰
Thank you for sharing with so much detail! Beautiful pieces for sure! Can you tell me if you first mix your paints with floetrol, and if so, is it 1 part paint, 1 part water and 2 parts floetrol? Or what are your portion ratios? Thanks muchly!
Hi Carilangley, I use paint and Floetrol only. I don't add water, though, if you are going to use all the paint mixture, you could use a small amount of water to thin the paint and Floetrol if you want to. I like to make a larger amount and store it and I've found that when I've added water, it doesn't keep as well. My video #182 shows how I mix my paints. I don't go by ratios as much as by viscosity (consistency) as different brands of paint have different viscosities to begin with. Here is a link to the mixing video: ua-cam.com/video/DsRC3pciP0g/v-deo.html Best wishes, Alison Hood
Please tell me what you put on the dried paint side before gluing onto metal holder?
The glue seals the paint. So I don't need to put anything. If I am concerned, or if I am making stud earrings, I will varnish the undersides.
Very pretty! Love your technique!
Thank you so much! 💓
Tysm for the video 😊 everything was beautiful 😊
So nice of you to say. Thank you 💕
Absolutely Amazing! I'm very new to this paint pour and jewelry making, i wonder how do you actually finish the jewelry after the paint dries.
Hi again i cant hear you very well,is there some way to turn up volume. 😮😊
I'm sorry that you can't hear me very well. Check that the volume on your device is on full. If you have ear buds or earphones, using them can help. Also, you can click on the closed caption button (CC) and that will bring up the subtitles, which may help as well.
Just love it alot easier than what i was doing. Were did you get the owls love them to,cant wait for your next video 😊😊.
Hello Lynn, thank you. Yes, I find this a lot easier. If you look at the dropdown description area, just below the video, there are links to all the products used in the video, including where you can get the owls from.
Are you saying words?
Yes. If you find it hard to understand my Australian accent, there are subtitles which you can find by clicking on the CC (Closed Captions).
Did u seal the skins before setting them In the tray?
Sometimes I varnish them to seal them and other times I don't as I think that the glue will seal them.
Where did you get your ring settings also the drop earring settings did U have to put the round to the drop earring set?
Hello tjscrafts, the earrings settings you can find if you go to the description area below the video. They arrive ready made and you just need to glue the painted cabochon into the setting, then it is finished. I have listed most of the products used in this demonstration there. The earrings you mention, you will find under the title, 'earrings assorted shapes'. The rings in this video I haven't been able to find the link to where you can find them. However, if you use one of the other links and then type in the search area, 'jewellery rings 25mm cabochons' you will find an assortment of others which you might like. Best wishes, Alison
My hat's off to you-bravo!
Thank you.
These are lovely. I was making mine e with paint skins, card stock and stickers. But I think I will try this technique. But I haven’t made earrings yet.
Thank you. Yes, I find this way a lot easier. Enjoy.
These are lovely . I made some with paint skin. But this way is much easier. I’m going to try this technique.
Wonderful!
Your tutorial is fantastic and so is your jewelry. Can't wait to get started😊

Do you make skins if you don't use all the paint
The left over paint I sometimes use to dip coasters or bookmarks (videos coming up) and I always scrape up the remaining left over paint to use in another pour. I don't make skins.
Loved your video and the colors. Thank 😁 you

What do you do with your left over paint? 😮
Sometimes I continue to use it to make bookmarks, or coasters by dipping in the paint. At the end, I always scrape it up and put it in an airtight container to use in another pour.
I love your art ❤
Thank you Carylfontaine. That is so kind of you to say and I appreciate it very much 🥰

I really think your work is beautiful. I would like to know where you find all the settings for your glass pieces and are there standardized sizes in which to buy to set the stones inside to fit. Thank you.
