A QA Tester’s Opinion on The Crowdstrike Outage
Yes it's the best it's ever been. But the Linux higher ups are quickly alienating all of their developers and in some cases, wiping their names off of valuable contributions. Why, I don't know...
Too late.....knee deep in the hoopla
I started Linux back in 1995. And my first distro was slackware. Just because I bought the wrong CD. I was meant to buy Suse.
ELIVE IS BEST LINUX OS TO REPLACE ON MODERN AND OLD PC AND LAPTOPS, TRY IT OUT AND BEST TO keep WIDOWS AND ELIVE ON TWO SEPARATE DRIVES AND JUST BOOT WHICH ONE YOU TO USE SO JUST IN CASE AS MICROSOFT WANTS YOU ON WIN 11 AND MONITOR EVERYTHING YOU DO ON IT UNLESS YOU'RE COOL JUST PLAYING GAMES AND DON'T COMMUNICATE WITH ANYONE YOU'LL BE FINE. BUT AS FOR REACTOS HAS A LONG WAY TO GO YET AND MAYBE IN ANOTHER 2 MORE YEARS AS IT'S LIMITED AND BUGGEE BUT TEST IT OUT. bUT REMEMBER resistance is futile IN THE new world order. MPK.
You’ve provided lots of commentary on what sounds like someone else’s report, you didn’t identify any but one of their accusations, and you provided no evidence to support it. You also clearly have a political bias that may be preventing you from presenting this information, as poor and second hand as it is, in an accurate way. This is a terrible video 😂 I was genuinely curious about what he did that was so bad but I’m still just as in the dark as I was before. I don’t follow Stallman. I have mixed feelings about Linux (mostly confused at why it still sucks for most people after being around for so long) I don’t have a horse in this race so to speak. But I HATE when people make claims about other people without thorough research, evidence, and citations. 👎
@@Code_Monkey_ All the citation are on the stallman report website. None of these are particularly controversial, as stallman himself admits to them
Finally someone understands that reviewing distros on VMs is not the way to go! It's insane that more youtubers are not doing bare metal reviews. How am I going to judge the responsiveness of an OS if all you show me is a VM
Thanks bro
The "light weight" buzz words are a little silly to me. Even the most bloated linux setups are well under 2gb.. If going from 2000M down to 600M is a big deal-- you need to just upgrade your Ram.. My laptop is from 2009, and had only 4gb ram: and I still slapp3d 16gb of ram in it for dirt cheap.. So it can keep up with today's software. The stress on "minimalism" is sort of a cult and I don't buy into it that much. Just use whatever distro and features you want.. whatever is easy. It's not worth jumping through all the Arch install hoops IMO.. you don't get much out of it... Use Endeavor, Cachy or Garuda and you still are on Arch and it's easy to install and use.
Or he could just be an old school Libertarian and leave it at that. :P
He's literally not though and has always self identified as a Marxist.
Lol.. You earned my sub.. That sucks to hear about MX though.. because I kinda like MX.. I also seen where Debian was hiring interns and they specifically said only 'diverse" people allowed, basically. You can find it; people are talking about it. So for that-- I think I'll just avoid debian/MX/Ubuntu/Mint and the whole family tree.. and stick with either arch or fedora. Specifically I'm about to jump to Garuda (arch) or Nobara (fedora)-- I can't decide yet.
You should try Nobara also.. It's on the same level as Garuda: with the "assistant" pages and welcome page, and all the preinstalled gaming stuff and drivers.. and just super user friendly to install... I'm having a hard time choosing which one I want to run actually. They are both very good
You can completely change how it looks in only a few clicks.. I don't know why this is even something to talk about.. It's KDE-- change it to however you like it.. Does it RUN? that's what matters.. (watch "Garuda Linux: from ugly to beautiful" and he'll show you how to easily change how it looks).
ReactOS: What you get when Linux guys try to write Windows.
Aah shame! I haven’t run ReactOS in years so I became curious what it’s like nowadays when I saw your video pop up. Imma give it a spin one of these days. There was a time in its early development that I thought that this would one day be a true competitor to Windows, that dream will probably never come true 🤷♂️
You did not give ANY detail how you configured your VirtualBOX VM for ReactOS. I have ran VirtualBOX hundreds of times in both VirtualBOX and KVM without any issues...
@dejanlekic5513 I just used the windows 2000 configuration with 4gbs of ram and 128 mb vram
Hey, I'm over here.
Easyeffects doesnt work on my fresh install.
NCommander also has a video of his experience. not only is richard a pervert, he's horrible to work with.
I will have to watch, but I kinda figured that from some of the shit he pulled back in the day.
Ubuntu got in bed with Microsoft. You will be under M$ control soon now.
@@Verklunkenzwiebel I don't use Ubuntu anymore. Now a days you should use mint over Ubuntu. I use arch usually
My greatest gripe have been lack of my favorite softwaress: 1. could install Rhinoceros3d only after installing windows under VM 2.could install Bulk rename utility under WINE. But the lack of such renaming software in Linux platform is absolutely disappointing. 3. Some terreain and environment making apps could only be installed after installing windows under VM. Second greatest gripe is inconsistency regarding installation of softwares like: 4. App installed from the distro repository not working while installing from the official website solved it. 5. CLI installation method recommend by an apps official website doesn't match what the distro official forum suggests.
My scroll doesnt work but it has good tracking.
Audio quality in this video is a problem. Makes it very difficult to watch.
@Ricardo-hp8gj yeah I apologize had issues with my mic not picking up my voice when I leaned forward. I fixed as much as I could without re recording
What I've been saying since Windows 10. Microsoft has made the conscious choice to make their product into malware to attack their customers on their behalf. This made it worth the couple of toys I had to give up to migrate to Linux. Now, I can't imagine using commercial OS at all anymore.
Using windows now is a much more fustrating experience then linux. I actually made a video essay on exactly what your talking about a while back
Arch is undeserving of the level of hype it has. And I think the part that pisses me off the most is that people try to go telling people all about arch. You know who you are? I'll tell you who you are - you are that guy on a street corner in fucking ALABAMA holding all these "Jesus Saves!" "Sinners go to hell" and other idiotic signs like that. 1. We seen and heard it enough already 2. Aside from making people HATE Arch, you are changing nothing.
2:14 the first distro I was going to try to install was Gentoo xD I didn't know anything about Linux, but the feel of that distro stood out to me. After reading the installation docs and figuring out some stuff for 7 hours, I decided to start with Debian :D And the next distro was Gentoo, it was crazy for a beginner, configuring the kernel to enable all the features for my laptop, downloading proprietary firmware and embedding it in the kernel (since I opted for a monolithic configuration) , using EFI stub, and the crazy amount of the system configuration that needed to be done... and I still had no idea how any of it worked :D
Glad you got gentoo second. You should be proud
Encrypting the database of the spying is going to be counter intuitive. If people could see what MS was collecting, they could delete it and make lifestyle changes concerning their computer.
Not to mention is it encrypted or is it "encrypted" Like are they gonna use a public key that you set the cipher or is "totally encrypted bro we can't read it trust us"
@@LinuxInvictus It will be encrypted if you want to see it. If a foreign govt wants to see it on the other hand...(ua-cam.com/video/Hs04fGNG5VA/v-deo.html) I'm getting a flashback of a moment in time. The year was 2015. Saudi feminists were demanding the right to drive cars. They were getting messages of support from various twitter users. I want to say they even had petitions (we were so nieve back that :_D) Then the Saudis started threatening people who signed the petitions. LMFAO. People expressed sentiments of "so what?!" I was smarter. I knew my govt would sell me out to a Saudi in a heart beat. Most of those users didn't. Fun times.
@@LinuxInvictus Windows is so awful, in a casual conversation with GPT, I suggested that a user needs to get a decent GPU if they are going to run windows 11. Otherwise your computer will constantly pull too many system resources to document what you are doing and if you don't want to be bothered by it a nice GPU would be necessary to minimize distractions. GPT agreed that a nice GPU would probably be a wise purchase to help run windows 11.
@JackeryThompson-lq8zk meanwhile your coffeemaker runs linux.
What did I say about this?
just like a cold you didn't want it comes back 🤣
And kids, that's why we call distros just Linux, because you never know if some insane guy decided to rip off GNU from there or not.
QA is an important but overlooked part of dev!
@22halomedia and sadly the first cut on crunch time
I never knew that about MX Linux. It was one of the distros I hopped around on when I started using Linux back in August. I kinda liked it, though it didn't last the weekend before I settled on LMDE on my main and regular Mint on my laptop. I may have to pull a switcheroo though since only 1 out of 7 of my controllers work on LMDE.
@@jemichecurwulfe7234 interesting. I haven't used lmde in ages because I don't really see the point in it
@@LinuxInvictus Yeah. I have heard people say to just straight up use Debian instead. I'll give myself another couple of months with this and learn more before I move on. People ragged on Ubuntu so much that I wanted to try both versions of mint until I can choose where I want to go.
Good stuff! Subbed.
The vast majority of people don't want to buy "a computer". They're not interested in investing the time to learn how to install an operating system, and it could be argued that they should have to. The vast majority of people want to buy an "appliance", which is why Apple is the richest company in the world (well, among other reasons, but you get the gist of what I'm saying).
I wonder why people are dissatisfied with MacBooks? Love 'em or hate 'em, Apple really innovated and moved the needle with their M-series silicon. Personally, I would never buy a MacBook as I love Linux way too much, but for 20 years I've been dreaming about a laptop that's completely silent and yet powerful (and Apple are the only company so far who have managed to pull this off).
They pulled it because they use a ripped off BSD and Unix like systems have a long history with risc and arm based architectures, unlike windows which is still very much a x86 os. I actually think arm cpus have a lot of potential for laptops, even though in my opinion laptops are becoming more niche. You also might be interested in the development of the Chinese chips using risk 5. Chinese are looking at going into linux big time.
@@LinuxInvictus I'm often taking a peek at where RISC V is 😉 I have a RISC V SBC, and am learning how to code for it. x86 is all well and good (for legacy apps), but it's a bit long in the tooth now (the same way COBOL or FORTRAN are in software development). The new Apple M series silicon can outperform top of the line i7 desktop CPUs while just sipping power. I blame Intel for this - they were the only show in town for ages, and they become complacent and failed to innovate (while enjoying their CPU monopoly). Competition is definitely a good thing, and I think we'll see some pretty interesting innovations from China in the coming 5 years. What I love about RISC V is it's open!
This is great news if it's true.
The world shall know Arch, btw.

friend, you have convinced me to hop to Endevouros my linux journey has been weird lol, from ubuntu to debian to arch to fedora, and now to endevour hopped from arch to fedora because of stability issues, and my DE breaking quite often but I missed the AUR a lot hope this time with EOS I can achieve a nice workflow without having so much trouble really nice video, thanks for the upload :)
@@kxndril-yt I had a great time with it.
yea good video i don't understand why these types of people came to mastodon if they clearly don't care about freedom .
Well the answer to that is complicated. When they say censorship, they mean themselves. Really you have to think of these journos like a deformed sort of priestly cast where censorship them is censorship is evil because they have the word of communism but you, you are filthy peasant troll spreading misinformation so censoring you is good.
One reason is that bluetooth has got a lot better in Linux Mint and Ubuntu. I have bluetooth headphones and ear buds & both work perfectly.
i dont use linux... because i cant find an empty usb stick
Hey I am running Opensuse Tumbleweed for over a year but I wanna use arch. The only reason I am hesitant is because suppose if I don’t update the system for one week will it break? In opensuse it never breaks even if I don’t touch my computer for one week and do a sudo Zypper update. Zypper doesn’t have parallel download and it’s damm slow that’s why I wanna use arch.
@satyamevajayate7263 arch won't have anymore issues then tumbleweed would I should think. I actually might think it's a bit more stable because it has a bigger user base and thus more testing.
Right people tm do you watch sir sic by chance
@THE_TROLLS_WIN_BOY I have no idea what your trying to say
Please get a better mic
@@THE_TROLLS_WIN_BOY Why?
This rise will be annihilated when people know about a RCE security flaw in Linux that ranks 9.9/10 on the severity scale...
@racejay You mean the cups one? That's pretty easy to plug, as you until need cups if you want to connect to a printer and you can block the port very easily.
@racejay and honestly from what I just read, it seems very suspect as it doesn't make any sense. Like how is there all this secrecy when you can literally go and see the reports?
Did you find a need to use `sudo`, or just use it because everyone says to use it, instead of just switching to root? From the second year of using Linux I didn't see any point in using sudo, and started switching to root with `su` when needed, and have been doing so for the past five years.
@the_original_dude honestly after this video I've switched to using doas even on artix. I like doas much more
Saying that Apple's hardware should cost 4 times less is kind of insane. There's a reason so many people love their hardware. When people who don't like Apple buy Macs for the hardware, it obviously means it's worth it. The majority of OSX users from the drop in Dec 2024 went to Windows, as it can be seen in the statistics, the Linux graph is very stable and without any spikes. My best guess as to who's starting to use Linux, it's probably people who fall under the following categories (and they all do it because of Microsoft or Apple): - tinkerers - young people who are not too afraid to tinker - a friend or family member encouraged and helped to use Linux There are other categories, but these are likely the vast majority. It would be great if there were a popular proprietary distro. It doesn't matter what crazy/nasty things they'll do, since they will be forced to cater to the user, because the user can leave any time they want to another distro, so whatever becomes popular is the best thing for the average user. And either way they will bring value to the desktop Linux community, since there will be more users of FOSS, and companies will be forced to port their proprietary software to Linux due to the market share which which will increase even more because of this.
I like your video. I would like to see what you think of Garuda Linux after a few months of using it. It is currently my dual boot linux on my gaming laptop, but unfortunately, I don't use that laptop anymore. My son uses that now. Sacrifices.. =***((( I have two main systems. Both Ubuntu 24.04. One is my gaming PC... It works very well, but I now wish it was Garuda Linux. Unlike you, I love the Garuda aesthetics, and KDE. The reason this main gaming PC went Ubuntu instead of Garuda, is solely because I was afraid I would have issues with WOW, BDO and Star Citizen. The games I play. I now see that Lutris and Nvidia work well with Garuda, so I would have been ok! Hmmm.... I don't know Do I wanna go Arch on my gaming system? I am still undecided. My other Ubuntu 24.04 PC is an old AMD game system, I build 10 years ago. I run local LLMs using Ollama, do android app development, and school work on this PC. I figure I'll keep this one Ubuntu, because it seems like Ubuntu is the open source OS of choice when it comes to AI.
@CYBONIX I think Garuda would be much better for gaming then Ubuntu because it has more up to date hardware support and nvidia built in. If I come back ro Garuda it might be the cinnamon edition. Though I usually love kde
@@LinuxInvictus Hmmm.... Interesting. I'm really thinking about do it. I think I'll be ok with Cinnamon too. What are you currently gaming on?
@CYBONIX Right now I decided to try to install artix because when I used alpine openrc and doas really impressed me
I wonder what the breakdown of OS market share by user age is. I think a lot of young guys would prefer to use Linux, if they could, and I suspect once people get onto Linux they'll be unlikely to switch back.
@NeilHaskins I am not sure that's as true as you might think. Lots of people switch back and forth, usually for work software or a game. As for the age break down, I would be very interested to see it
