    Cool stuff. Seems like letting your point rise so much to maintain contact would lose leverage once the elbow gets high enough. Definitely an interesting way of fencing!

    • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 3 роки тому

      There's no goal to maintain contact. Either you are intercepting the sword from cutting you, or you are not. Things that seem are also things that don't seem. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for watching.

    This is really nice. Far more interesting than wushu in terms of chinese martial arts. Thou I doubt this is accurate picture of period dueling / army usage, but this is fun and developing exercise and sparing for sure!

    • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 3 роки тому

      Designed specifically for dueling. But in regards to accuracy to period dueling: science goes forward. Every generation build off of the previous. We aren't training to pretend to be ancients or do civil war reenactments. We train to survive s sword fight without being injured. Consider it a rapier/side sword, and not a long sword, and you can see the clear similarities between western fencing and tai chi sword. You're right, it is definitely not a military art. Just like military arts aren't dueling arts. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Back in the 1980's I read about a TAI CHI INSTRUCTOR talking about sword practice with live blades ( the last 4-6 inches of the blade is razor sharp ). He said it is alright to practice with sharp blades. The chances of your hand getting cut are very slim. Your hand is moving and very hard to strike 😨. Also there is one in a million chances that a pressure point can be accidently hit during pressure point practice that would kill me, but I'm not taking that chance either ! Practice sword play with live , razor sharp swords ? NO....I'm not that stupid !

      Blaming bad luck is often an excuse for a lack of skill. If you are risking your life (bungee, skydive, motorcycles, etc.) all factors should be individually addressed before taking the risk. Knowing those factors is a piece of said skill. I'm happy that you can see the exchanges and the reasons for changing through the trigrams. For sincerel people, it is alla blur. 🌟👐

    This shows that it takes effort to save a life. Rather than taking the easy route and just killing the opponent. It is a beautiful art, it reminds me of the tree that lives the longest, bends and lets the wind pass.

    • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 3 роки тому

      In our style, ee have 7 stages to deal with combat escalation. The first is bonding; the second is escaping. And the third is to demonstrate control of the conflict without hurting them. Connive them that they do not want to pursue the sword fight. Not until the last stages will anyone risk death. It's great that you recognize the importance of this principle. Many people that comment on UA-cam videos only see the situation as them versus other. Thank you for seeing it for what it really is: overcoming conflict.

      @@TaijiFencing , the trouble is if you just kill someone, how are they going to change if they are dead? I have heard that is why Jet Li made the movie "FEARLESS". • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 3 роки тому

      So right! Everything changed when steel comes out. Lots of people like to focus on chopping through stuff, or overwhelming power against their opponent with strong cuts. But from my experience, once my sword is between us, everyone's focus changes to survival. Winning and hurting always become secondary. The problem with full contact training instead of this method, is that over aggressive methods do not train you for the actual situation. Only one with a false confidence. Your commentary about motivation and intimidation is a big part of what our method deals with and is concerned by. Thank for pointing that out! But there's a reason why large swords for war got replaced by fast smaller swords for dueling in Europe.

      Taiji refers to the principle of the interplay of creativity and receptivity. The Taiji Tu is the image of this principle, we call a yin yang in English. So, Taiji sword is not necessarily connected to Taiji Quan. But they do both focus on this concept of change. In modern times. They are practiced together as part of the same art. Many styles of Taiji terms in their full/long Chinese names. Thanks for the commentary! I'm glad you can see a new value to Taiji practices. 👐

    Your system is very interesting, as it has some similarities with the style I practice. What are the sources that you drew upon to create this system? Is it just an adaptation of Taiji forms into more practical martial techniques, or did you use old manuals as well?

    • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 3 роки тому

      I for mastery, i should understand the manual to Windows 98, bt it shouldn't be a focus when studying Windows 10. Manuals are good to know. But things have evolved a million degrees since those manuals were written. And they are most all witten by people that are outside of their lineage. And translated to English by people with money, but without cultivating the skill. Know those manuals. But do not trust manuals. ESPECIALLY if you are mixing manuals from different styles. So to directly answer your question, we are doing a universal sparring practice, based on actual fencing encounters, while focusing on real combat strategy. Applications are pulled from your forms, but only if you've reached a competence that allows for this. Taiji fencing is comparable to Olympic fencing; a sport and training method. Your own style (e.g. La Verdadera Destreza, Mensur, Isijutsu) is what you use when playing/practicing. These rules/methods are my curriculum for those that want to learn universal body mechanics & functional strategy. I require those things before teaching Wudang Jian to students. In Taiji, some people just push swords around and hope to get lucky (or claim it was a technique after the fact). But what i teach, are why things work when they happen to. Thanks for the comment and the opportunity to speak more about the universality of this sport.

    • @TaijiFencing
      @TaijiFencing 4 роки тому

      The hand guard was created to prevent to give the hand more safety when attacking. What i've noticed is that those may or may not limit maneuverability, but reaching the wrist would be the next target if the hand is not vulnerable. Same with gauntlets or gloves. There are always changing circumstances in combat, but knowing how to adjust in advance will be key to success. Thank you for the comment.

      @@TaijiFencing great. What about other weapons? Is there an arena limit, or the fight area is unlimited, as long as the rules are respected?

    • @TaijiFencing

      This method applies to all weapon training, with appropriate adjustments. That being said, some tactics focus on being more aggressive or overwhelming your opponent with speed and force. So just be aware of the appropriate responses, and understand when the power is reinforced or just from the limbs. Each group will do things differently, but we just recommend everyone involved is clear on boundaries and aggression levels. We have had sessions on 2' posts, on peers, narrow passes, and even a tournament in the trees with free movement. In that case, we start and stopped where ever the action lead the competitors. Great questions! Thanks for watching.

      @@TaijiFencing thanks for answer me. I tried with staff, spear, two-handed sword and double Kali sticks, but it didn't worked well with the last one. But, with single kali sticks worked well, but was strange, it seems that this system works better with longer weapons.

    Hey Xia, this is one your ATL members saying hi and thank you for the time and energy you put into these videos I'm glad we're allowed body shots (i.e. punches and kicks). that was actually a topic that came up a few times before the lockdown occurred within our circle. thank you for clarifying their standing in the realms of taiji fencing and in practicality.

    Thank you! I really enjoy this although I don't do Taiji-Fencing. I'm still new to the weapon part of Taiji and just startet practicing the Jian-Form. This Fencing looks really fun. I hope I can learn a thing or two from this series

      Thanks for taking the time to watch! I hope this helps you with your Taijijian applications! We recommend visualizing what side of your blade the opponent's sword is on when practicing your form. Then you can begin to see the applications and combinations in your form. A lot of the Wudang Taijijian form combinations are done in these video. Appreciate the comment! Jiayou!

    Some people say: ,,I would love to see sth. like HEMA in asian martial arts" and I say: Here you are my friends, here you are. Beautiful training culture and very beneficial approach to fencing - I won't say ,,complete", but I love that, also as I love Roland Warzecha interpretation of european sword and buckler training and dueling.

      Thanks for the comment! Swordsmanship is made up of many components, so you're right that Taiji Fencing isn't the only method one should practice. We only hope people can enjoy themselves while cultivating skill that can transition to other styles and combat. Thank you for the interest. I hope you can check out or Taiji Fencing 101 video series if you'd like to get some more details on this training method and sport.

    Cool. I have not heard of it before. How does a person join a league? Where are these leagues located?

      We are doing our best to launch training groups in various cities for the past few years. Right now we encourage to get their own local training groups, or visit a Taiji Fencing workshop to learn the basics. We have our new Taiji Fencing 101 video series now for people to learn the basics online and with their groups.
