    I may not have made it clear in the video, but plot 1 and the buck forage oats were planted the same date about 75 yards apart, in the same field. Plot 1 is a little closer to the road. Plot 2, the mature oats are in the same field as well but planted earlier. Since they matured, I concluded they were not browsed heavily. I hadn't intended to compare them but at the end of the summer I realized I had 3 separate oats plots, in the same field. Thanks for watching.

    I Have used and like the buck forest oats but I don’t know if they are twice as good as others considering they are almost twice the price here in south Mississippi

      @heathalford4721 My feed mill sells it for the best price I've seen but it certainly is more expensive than traditional oats.

      here at our local feed stores the BFO are about $36-40 I think. Regular are $19-24

    The field hasnt been fertilized like the food plot has. A true test would be to plant every sample of oats in the same field at the same time. Great idea but you need to take the variables out. Its way too skewed towards the Buck oats.

    • @tjsfarmandfamily
      @tjsfarmandfamily 6 днів тому

      @sandych33ks1 It wasn't my original intent to compare them but it worked out that I had 3 oats plots at the end of the summer. The first field has seen fertilizer and lime and was planted on the same date. It's about 75 yards away, in the same field.

      @daveguttormson6315 True. It wasn't my original intent to compare them but they definitely browsed the BF oats more. Maybe I'll attempt a side by side comparison next year.

    Im doing brassicas to but i won't plant a mix with brassica and grain cause the grain will be mature and out grow the brassica. Some people like it but i would rather have young grain and not worry about seeding out before frost hits, and i get my brassicas in about 65 75 days before expected frost cause they will still mature after frost hits! Hopefully the rain will cooperate and we can enjoy our hard work! Good luck this season bub!

      @troybrake5686 Thanks for the comment. I usually wait a month or so before I overseed with rye but I think I'll just do it on my mix side and frost seed clover in the brassicas in early spring. Good luck.

    To fill in low spots you drag it. Heavy piece of timber or metal rail. Anything that's wide flat and heavy. Some people use a piece of railroad rail. WE put the drag behind the disk. Old school.
