Curious, do you need that crown board below the feeder?
@@here-is-my-profile yes that’s what holds it, you wouldn’t won’t it say on just the frames
@@dcleal1 Ah, I see now, I thought the board you made with the feeder was similar to Black mountain honey Multi Purpose Crown Board
@@here-is-my-profile ahh no I just made a wooden surround to fit the insulation into it with the feeder in there to then sit on top of crown boards as other wise I have to use an empty supper
Really enjoyed your series this year, I know the videos are hard work, but please keep putting them out, good to hear your views and plans, beekeepers always like to hear other beekeepers views. I know there is never a right or wrong way, but you may find it easier in the long term to keep super frames just for honey, once you get eggs and brood in them it can get messy and greater risk of wax moths. I found that it's easier when doing the Apivar just to have brood frames on, so there is no risk of contamination of wax or honey in super frames. I suspect the Apivar chemical does break down anyway after time, but worth following the manufacturers instructions, especially if you are planning to sell the honey. You will definitely need to make a few early splits as the colonies will want to swarm in April or May. Look forward to your updates and ta again. That's a nice nuc, will make someone very happy, plus a good backup in case of any losses.😅
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 ahh once again thank you for watching and following and always appreciate your comments.. I’m going to try and put a video together containing the hole year with bits and peace’s of all sorts.. yes the nuc is there for like you say a back up just incase anything was to happen but will also do someone proud if I go ahead and sell..👍
Dan I would take all the supers off . Feed them up and they are good to go mate
@@DenbeeHoney there plenty of stores in there for them, just kept that one on there that iv just removed coz there was just so meany bees and didn’t wonna try squeezing them all down, now the numbers are falling it was a good time to remove and I may go another mouth and the remover one more, I’ll see…. Thanks all the same buddy.. Keep up the good work.👍
Hi mate love your videos keep up the good work . Just remember that amatraz, the mitacide is moved around the Hive on the bee's feet and can contaminate supers you may use next year . Great videos I'm on tictoc ATM moving to UA-cam soon only have shorts on here but love the videos keep up the good work . 😊😊
@@JAYKAYPHOTOGRAPHY ahh thank you so much for following and watching my videos, always thought it would had been a good idea to start my beekeeping experience of wth a video making a journey for everyone to see and watch, granted I could had done things differently at times but I’m a beginner and learning like a lot of others and just really wonted people to see that it can be done if you really won’t to do it…Yes iv marked up any supper frames that iv used in the hives whilst in with the apivar just so I won’t get them mixed up when putting honey suppers on next year….. Once you get your UA-cam up and running let me no you user name and I’ll subscribe and watch your videos too.. 👍🐝
Thanks for the update Danny, the insulation is great as it will keep the warmth at the top, good luck next week with the big colony. I am down to six, one weak nuc was robbed out by wasps, one main colony had become drone laying, the addition of a mated queen from the aforementioned nuc did not resolve, so decided to shake out as it was a lost cause!, but my remaining colonies seem fine. Have a good Sunday 😅
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 yeah the wasps are a nightmare this time of year and will find them week colonies and destroy them.. Good to hear the others are fine.. They certainly don’t like us going into the hives now as my nuc was super angry with me splitting it apart lol.
Great video mate, be careful with inspections now, if you damage the queen your gonna be in trouble. I tend to just treat and feed from now on in. Keep up the great work
@@DenbeeHoney yeah I no buddy, not really inspected them for a couple of weeks and to be fair the big hive (number2) I wasn’t going to go to far but after seeing the queen up that high got me wondering as to why so had to go and do a bigger inspection… Once again thanks for watch my friend.👍
Thanks for that, your colonies look good. I used Apivar for the first time last year, but stupidly did not fully read the instruction which said that the amitraz can be absorbed by wax so remove any frames on the colony which could be extracted for human consumption. So this year I removed all my super frames, before inserting Apivar strips. As a result my colonies are rather full with bees, but once strips are removed, I can always stick some supers back on, if required. If you are going to leave any shallow frames on, might be worth putting a cross on them, so that next year you know which ones aren't fit for human use. Having said that the manufacturer does not say how long amitraz takes to break down and I don't think anyone has ever been poisoned by it. It's just a thought😂 I was caught out by it and ended up having to ditch some shallow super frames! Have a good Monday off.
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 yeah must had been a nightmare for you, iv been told as long as you freeze them frames once you take them out they will be good to go again next year regardless of the apivar on them. Kills everything.. I was going to mark up myself but a mentor told me that? Please double check but I think they will be fine.. Thank you so much for watching means a lot, just gutted it’s all coming to an end soon..🥲👍
@@dcleal1 ta Danny, like you I probably spend too much time on my bees, but new season will suddenly be upon all again, you must put out a vid on what your plans are for next year!
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 definitely will be doing bits and pieces over the winter period with videos.. got a plan I’m doing with a national hive that I will be posting and that will be a must watch as this could be a new beginning for a national hive to make the beekeeping a hole lot easier.. Exciting times and I will be running it next year.👌😀
Thanks for that, a decent crop of honey, well worth the effort and taking the occasional sting. I know there is no wrong or right way, but personally I never extract from any deep brood frame, just in case there are eggs, live or dead brood etc, you can always store these until next year for making nucs, or use them if you are going to double brood over winter on two deeps. Having brood in shallow supers can get a bit tricky also. I tried overwintering last year on brood and a half, which the bees loved, but in the spring I found it a bit messy trying to decided what to do with the shallow. So this year I will either do single brood box overwintering, or double brood box overwintering and see how that goes! Anyway, really enjoy your vids, thanks for posting, I know they take a lot of time and effort to do.😊
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 ahh thank you so much for watching and your comments mean a lot.. yes defo with you on that one, iv left 1 hive as a double brood, leaving them plenty of stores and the other is a double brood but 1 brood box 2 supers lol, best I can do atm but again wont to give them plenty of stores to help them through winter, with the weather so good they are still so on it, trying to down size the hive but just way too meany bees. So just going to leave them to their own devices and if they fill another supper then they will just have more for themselves… iv put the apivar strips in now so couldn’t take anymore honey..
@@dcleal1 cheers Danny, I have done my extraction, still have a few uncapped frames on my hives, will do my Apivar in next few days, so will take these off. Might just store them and stick back on when Apivar comes off. Most of the bees about now will be dead in a few months time, so numbers will go down, so they should all eventually fit in, but with a bit of a squeeze first!
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 yeah defo get ya apivar in sooner then later, need a strong colony for winter.. my frames are currently in the freezer but iv left brood and half but coz there so busy iv put another supper back on combed Out so if they fill that in which I think they will then just more feed for them ..👍
Well done Brilliant first year.

Great video Danny, the journey never ends, it's good that you have this record as its good to look back, my style has changed just a bit over the years. Think quite a few will be extracting this week, me included, I plan to overwinter on single broods this year. After extraction will need some empty boxes on to to cope with so many bees, but the numbers will go down in next few months. That's the plan anyway. Look forward to next vid. 😅
@@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 ahh thank you so much, really appreciate your views on this.. Yes I’m going to possibly go do mine Friday evening then get the apivar in there, get the frames back into the hive for them to clean off to before removing again… Yes defo correct there don’t think the journey will ever end due to some much the bees get up to lol… going to miss them over the winter really am..

Thanks for that Danny, that nuc is booming, recon it will want to swarm early next year!😊 Good idea to get mite strips on, have done the same with my nucs. Would worry too much if you dont take off excess honey from any brood frames, they will come in handy next spring when you make up nucs. @@eastsussexbeesandwildlife5801 ahh thank you so much for taking the time too watch, it is doing very well but I expect nothing less as it’s the daughter of my original F1 buckfast queen in the other big hive.. Have been curious for a while now on how do you plan to store your empty honey frames bcz you have interchanged the empty honey frames to give the queen room to lay and so on and so forth i asked tht bcz wax moths infestation is a big possibility frames not being stored correctly specially the ones tht had broob in them before they specially prefer those ones so if you havent already you might wanna look into how you can properly store them without losing them to wax moths
@@nimmimankame8727 hi, thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciate it… I will take out what I can and leave what I can, once I take out I will firstly freeze every one of them for around 24/48 hours, that will potentially kill anything in them, then I will either stack them up in my garage in the suppers splitting every 2 with a sheet of codex as if anything was to happen to any of the frames inside the supper box then it would only stop on 2… Also thought about just storing them in a air sealed tub (again after iv frozen them) … also another good thing to do is in the hight of the winter when you now there is going to be a frost is if you can of course put your supper boxes outside so they can get frosted/frozen as that also kills and unwanted problems ready for spring …hope that helps..👍
Doesn't a nuclear box contain large amounts of high explosive?... Sorry!
Love this ❤ she really enjoyed it! Another thing ticked of her very big list 😂🥰 xxxxx

Newbie here. Why have you got capped brood in your super
Hi, thanks for watching, Emm the reason as to why is because I was moving frames around to free up some space for the queen to lay so I moved that supper frame up above the queen excluded with other frames I had In the supper box.. hope that helps
Like with no eggs or brood of any kind, im with you its probably queenless, if you want you could do the method where you put an empty box down, frame of brood, queen excluder on top, then a empty box and shake everything in, the workers will drop down and any queen will be trapped up top. We've had to use this method a couple of times and its always been successful
Was it a locally collected swarm or your own that had swarmed?. Ive heard other people say with locally caught swarms its best to give them drawn comb. Ps im no expert lol 3rd year atm, so its just what i heard/read, not actually experienced
@@neilfrozenoak5438 yeah it was my own swarm ..👍
Your doing an amazing job! Sometimes things like that happen! You consulted your mentor as you said and done what you felt was right at the time! Both queens are doing what they intended to do so don’t beat yourself up about it and definitely don’t let anyone bring you down! We know that everyone does their beekeeping differently and people should respect that rather than leaving hurtful comments! as you say it’s your journey so 💯 you should do it your way!! Was there really a need to write this.? I could of yes but on my inspection the frames all looked totally empty, and there was no sign of the queen so I went and bought one, and yes if I wasn’t a new be then maybe I would had thought that too and let’s not forget the video was posted a good 3 days after I went into the hive. Like I said I appreciate everyone’s comments but sometimes there a little late due to when I went into the hive and when the video was posted.End of the day there wasn’t too much I had done wrong as the queen was totally fine and she went off to help out another beekeeper who was definitely in need of a mated queen and he got her for less then half the price I payed so all good really.. Drop in a frame with eggs and see if they draw out emergency queen cells, it they don't you have a virgin to get mated. Don't buy a queen until you have confirmed they are definitely queenless or they will kill her and bang goes your money. If they do draw out queen cells just tear them down then again after 8 days and add a mated queen then.

Dont worry about the confused foragers, they will eventually go back into the nearest hive. Yoy must have used up a few calories! That queenless colony looked very healthy, another option would have been to put a test frame (with some eggs) in, then check in 5 days or so, if the colony is queenless, you should find queeen cells.
