Razer Blade 16 [13950HX/RTX 4080]: Hot Performance, at a High Price
Hey guys!
Finally got to finish up my review of the Blade 16, configured with the i9-13950HX, RTX 4080, and QHD 240Hz IPS display.
I am trying an audio-enhancement tool, so any echo or background noise should be eliminated and L/R gains should be exactly equal now.
Hope y'all enjoy the video, and look forward for the next one!
Cheers!

Hi! Thanks for the great review! Do you think that having a relatively weaker GPU (an 2000 ADA) would help with the overheating issue? Because I was checking the indepth review about that one, and it seemed that the temps were quite "controllable", and the device was still "usable" for some gaming. Also: If you decrease the 3070/3080ti wattage to around 70-80, would that drop help with the temps and still have a performance at the level or above the mentioned 2000 ADA??

I have this laptop and I am very disappointed with it. After a year, I had to replace the paste with THERMAL GRIZZLY KRYOSHEET and so far it heats up less. This laptop is a disaster :(

Is there a reason why my LENOVO SPECTRUM will not let me use the PROFILE's any longer? The only way the RGB keyboard turns on is if I press FN + SPACE and it only has the basic ones, not the personalized PROFILE that I would like to use. Thanks!

Just picked up the Legion pro 7i same specs as the one you're showing and it really is a monster. I bought it for Music production, sound design and audio engineering. and as a bonus I can use it for gaming. I've owned it for a couple weeks now and I am very happy with it, it has handled everything I have thrown at it both in terms of my audio production needs and for gaming, every game I've been playing I have been able top crack the graphics settings to max and have generally been getting FPS of around 120. I've never been more impressed by the power of a laptop and the fact that I can upgrade it to 64GB and 3TB SSD later is fantastic. I switched from Mac after 17 years because they aren't upgradable anymore, so you're stuck with the RAM and HDD forever. I spent the exact amount I would have spent for a Macbook pro M3 and ended up with a lot more. I left windows a long time ago because I used to repair computers and I got so sick of windows issues and instability (this was around the windows Vista era) So far I have found that windows has made huge improvements in the overall stability of their OS and ease of access to basic things for example to change which programs open during start up, you used to have to go to search, type MSCONFIG and then go from there, now the start up apps can be found right in the task manager, not a huge deal but still nice, I'm finding all kinds of little ease of life tweaks like that, that have been made all through out windows 11. As for stability I can't speak to that yet because it has only been a couple weeks, so far so good but the only way I can be sure will be obviously with time. I took a massive risk diverting the funds for a new macbook pro to PC in a sort of leap of faith and so far i'm happy I did.

Larger trackpads can get in the way when you want to rest your palm and type. If you type a lot, you would not like it. As a developer myself I get a thinkpad only for its keyboard and that red little trackpoint. Once you get used to it you will never use trackpad, at least that's my opinion. Nevertheless, great presentation and thanks for showing the upgrade options.

How are you supposed to properly clean the fans and internals when you can't remove the fans without removing the Vapor Chamber? Which would then required repasting the liquid metal on the CPU and PTM on the GPU???? Over time dust and debris will surely build up in there if you can't remove it for a deep cleaning... I've also read some nightmares regarding the service on the vapor chamber, that some Lenovo technicians did not either reinstall the vapor chamber correctly or the thermal interface material was done incorrectly and thermals went through the roof? Little concerning that some simple maintenance seems quite difficult now. So much so even their 'certified' technicians manage to botch some services.

Thanks for your review. Afer watching this and other reviews I bought this very one 2023. I wanted to ask you if you know about upgrading Ram. I've heard many different tales. For the most part if you upgrade to 64GB of ram your speed will be reduced to 4800. I am a video editor only. My friend has 64GB of DDR5 ram he is willing to sell me cheap but it's 5200. Is that ok and will it be a for sure benefit for video editing in mostly adobe premiere, lightroom, photoshop and some Davinci Resolve. Please let me know what you think. My tech skills are not all that.

Very thorough and detailed review! Subed within 5 min.. ; ) Ps. I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and always wanted that Thinkpad keyboard experience. But maybe the tradeoffs in other areas outweigh those "magic" keys.. hehe! Although they have a 39 % discount right now on the P1 gen 4.. So about 2200 USD and then I'll get that older nicer keyboard too, with the greater keystroke travel, if I understood you and other reviewers correctly?

Thank you for this great review, especially on the thermals! I got this laptop from the company i work for (the 3080ti version) and im so disapointed with the thermals of the GPU and performance because of that. Whats the point of putting such a hardware if you can hardly use it? Such a shame, would not recommend anyone getting this laptop, especially for gaming, and its not cheap either!

@Braxtech - looking for insight here. Do you know if it's possible to get overclocks with Hyper-V enabled (I need it for work related items to run WSL 2 / Docker Desktop). From what I have done with personal testing, Throttlestop and Intel XTU both require API's to speak with the cores directly and Hyper-V adds an additional layer below the OS which doesnt allow for these software tools to communicate for Hardware Performance changes. I really wish Razer would give us some ability to undervolt and OC within the BIOS as Motherboard manufactures do.

(lenovo vantage doesn't allow undervolting of the p cores). What's yoru stable undervolt? And regarding the GPU overclock, which program are you using for that? MSI afterburner or lenovo vantage? and what where your final stable undervolts/ocs
