White, signifies is a 1979 RD400, the fastest in the U.S. with the most smog bullshit on it, and the last year of the bike...so sad....I had the 1977 RD400, and I blew Honda CB750 away, the Kawasiki triple 750 could beat it, but they were so hard to even find in the US its like a myth they existed....and both handled terrible in corners...there was the "RD...Rapid death Woble" when you would hit a sweeping turn at speed the the whole bike wobbled.....to and fro...but ....you could loose the race to a Suzuki 1000cc but all eyes are on you because for the first 1000 yards your doing an insane wheelie while accelerating.....I smoked everyone till the cops arrested me and I Joined the USMC on the condition they dropped all the charges....:)

Never advisable to use WD40 on brake parts. Use Silicone spray lubricant

A friend of mine and I each owned RD400's. I bought mine used in 1980, and had it for a little over two years. A fun fun machine. I't'll put a smile on your face when the throttle's open and it hits 5,500 rpm...... and all of the sudden the power band hits, and she revs to revving to 8,500 rpm. A JOY of a bike to ride !

I think I observed a positive expression on your baby daughter's face about your RD..... or maybe she just had some gas. Ha ha !

Ha, my first bike. Mine was blue and had carburettor issues on damp mornings (and the throttle used to stick open too). Had to push it down the road when leaving my girlfriend's house early in the morning so I didn't wake the street (and her parents) up 😅. The headlight is not original, it should be rectangular. Mine was also extremely loud...

i had 3 of them from a early one best one i had was a dx version ,,had a bits and semi tuned one rebored changed con rod higher compression ,i bored the inlet and outlets ,rejetted it had bodged 500 track pipes on it ,changed coils for better higher spark and points ,my mate stuck a bigger set of wheels on it and sproket set changed parts in the gearbox ,was a horror running slow ,ran nice above around 45mph and just kept pulling ,a guy i knew had it for 5years after me,he did aload of stuff to it fitted some strange angled shocks on the back and a cast ally swing arm i think thats what it was made of lower than before ,i had 434 bored to ,heard he had it comp head pistons and a diy mini injector tapped in both heads only tan with injectors at mid range on a switch like a crude supercharer but more fuel and a flap to let more air in,they are crazy money these days
