Mrs Bob and her legacy, The beaver family 2023 , Part 6
It is middle of the summer and the yearlings are doing well, but without their almost tame mum they have become much shyer and it had become much more difficult to see them. They are still displaying typical beaver behaviour like scent marking at the edge of the river.
We did a little trip to Germany and saw some of the Bavarian beavers which have made their home in a big swimming lake as well as the wetlands along a river. One particular one amused us by having a break from its beaver business and observing us for quite a few minutes . Not sure who was more intrigued - us watching the beaver or the beaver watching us.
Little bonus: if you listen closely you can hear the Little egrets doing their breeding-territorial call in the first clips. I think it sounds like Donald Duck.

Mrs Bob and her legacy, The beaver family 2023 , Part 5

April 2023. 2 months after Mrs Bob disappeared. The yearlings regularly come back to the big tree that has come down in the last storm and have started stripping the bark off it. Occasionally their father Mr Bob , Green-tag, is seen in the same area but otherwise the youngsters are on their own, but it looks like they are doing well. Turnstones along the beach

I have seen Turnstones , Arenaria interpres, on the beach before, but never had them THAT close! They chose this small stretch of a relatively busy beach to look for food and did not seem bothered by people, they even walked towards us - one came up to half a meter away from me before it walked back into another direction. Please feel free to visit my page: www.wildlifetourseastdevon.com And my...
Atlantic bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus

Some of the Atlantic bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus, chasing garfish/saury along the Devon coast. It is outragous that the British government allows the fishing for those creatures after them only returning to British waters recently. 39 tonnes are quoted for commercial fishing! With an average of 250kg per fish this means about 156 fish can be killed! And this does not even include bycatch. Ple...

After the loss of Mrs Bob the beaver family has moved further downstream to what was usually the maternity lodge. The yearlings are hanging out together to feed on the bark of a freshly fallen tree and to forage on the river side for the juicy spring greens. Last years youngsters are exploring the riverside, munching on ivy and bramble. What we didn't know when we were watching and filming the beaver family in March 2023 was that it would be the last time we were to see Mrs Bob for good. What happened to her is unknown, her body was never found, but as another dead beaver with bite marks from a territorial fight was found nearby, chances are that s...
European hare , Lepus europaeus

Earlier this year we were watching the Brown or European hares , Lepus europaeus , in the fields. It's quite interesting to see how picky they are with what they are eating, smelling on the different grasses and flowers until they find something they really like.

It is still early in the year, the nights are long and cold. The beaver family is in their winter lodge quite close to the village. Despite being next to a foot path, not too many people are aware what is going on in the water under the cover of darkness. And as long as the humans and their dogs stay out off the water the beavers are not very bothered by them, they just stop feeding for a few s...

Red Squirrels , Sciurus vulgaris, on Brownsea Island
Переглядів 3334 місяці тому
Being originally from Germany I have seen quite a lot of Red squirrels as a child , my parents get them still regularly in the garden on the bird feeders. In the UK I have managed to see them in Scotland and in Wales in the wild but despite living not too far from Dorset and having been to Arne multiple times I have never been to Brownsea Island to see the Red squirrels there. That is until 2 w...

It's early in the year, beginning of February. The nights are long and cold but the beavers are out. Last years kits are now quite big and the 2-year olds almost reached the time of having to leave the family. So far Mr and Mrs Bob are still tolerating them. Mute swan , Cygnus olor , with cygnets

The local Mute swan family swimming up and down the river. A fallen tree was a bit of an obstacle to one of the cygnets when they were still quite young, but with some encouragement it got over. A few weeks later the remaining cygnets have grown up quite a bit, wobbling over the pebbles when the parents decided to come out off the water. It is close to the end of the year, the nights are drawing in and it's getting quite cold. The beavers are spending lots of time making sure their fur is groomed and waterproofed to keep the cold water out. Avocet chicks in Steart Marshes

End of April the Avocet chicks have hatched and are discovering the edges of the lake, running up and down the water line to find some food and train their little legs. When they get too cold they quickly go back to their mum and warm up under her wings.

Nice....subscribed today...Myself from India doing fish farming in large cement tanks and exploring village spots.....mylink...youtube.com/@amitbhattacharjee93?si=VREQDWs_voew1Ro2( fish+ agriculture) which is a self dependent project for the young generation with expansion plan of duckery/ mushroom farming and it is a natural way of fish farming and it is not a biofloc system and far far safe one than biofloc as it does not need constant oxygen supply, water supply and constant PH testing....Moreover exploring new village beautiful spots in India...stay blessed...your friend from India with invitation to visit India
Aww their tiny little wings spread out as if that would help their balance somehow ❤
Poor little sygnet taking time to get over the log. I was willing it over that log. 😊
❤Adorable
Simply the best.
The younger ones are a delight, all frisky and buoyant. A great shame this was the end of Mrs Bob's story, I am sure she'd love to be still sat near you watching her brood (and hoping for the occasional pear). I hope you can continue to cover the family's development, and the state of the country's rivers doesn't impact upon them. Thanks for yet another lovely video.
💚🦫💚
Cute ❤
Wow nice photography ❤
Er ist und bleibt der Beste
Aw, my favourite family. Thanks for the video.
Как сильно мамочка волнуется. Не уплывает, а поддерживает малыша ❤️
Which country did this concert take place at? What was the temperature?
Aw, so sweet sploshing against the log and the parents clearly thinking they were going to have to go and give it a shove. Then the moment of success was hidden behind a branch. Thanks for the video.
Rick Astley looked like my father
😍😍😍👏👏👍
Lovely footage, as ever - many thanks. I assume they have dug that channel in the bank, such engineers.
Thank you! Yes, they are digging small channels to reach foraging grounds in the safety of the water, which is beside dams an important feature to stop flood water as the soil even further away from the rivers edge can absorb more water
❤👍😊
I like calming songs which soothe my mind
Beautiful footage, many thanks Sylvia. The little ones are delightful, although perhaps a handful to keep corralled.
Dreamcatcher vibes
I was about to say, ladybird is Hank's dog in king of the hill
Why couldn't it have just found a nice fly use? 😭😭 Poor lil aphid eating buddy RIP 🫡🫡
Interesting.
The worst dump
you are is very artist!
Thanks for the lifecycle info in the beginning - very neat!
Thats interesting thanks!

Thank you for the beautiful video Sylvia. I love how buoyant the kits are, seem to be floating on the surface and splashing around. How many do you think there were - I suppose you can only give a minimum number?
Thanks 🙏
Thank you, Sylvia - an hour well spent for both you and the Oil beetle.
So glad these are making a comeback here. I used to hear them calling at night when they were flying over during their migration.
❤
Thank you Sylvia, another lovely video. It is such a shame that Mrs Bob is not around any more, but she did provide a great deal of joy and a lot of little beavers. Hopefully they will thrive along your riverbank for years to come.
Lovely video as always, many thanks.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. 😊
Buonadomenicaatuttivoi
She is all kinds of busy gathering tasty morsels. Thanks for the lovely video.
Beautiful footage! Thank you!
Schöne Aufnahmen.
Very relaxing, thank you. Lovely to be reminded of the serene willow-munching days of summer. Have a great xmas.
That guy has a great voice, top song this .....
Sibling bonding is so sweet love tawnys
Beautiful footage, many thanks. A scene of utter contentment: chewing some willow then sitting and grooming (or just having a scratch). He/she seems to be waving goodbye at the end.
yeah!
they are so cute!
Happy days: pulling down low-hanging branches and chomping through them. Thanks for the lovely video.
