The "Godsend" Who Spat and Drank in the NBA
When people talk about the biggest flops in NBA drafts, Darko Miličić is usually a name that gets tossed around. It’s true that the second pick of the 2003 draft didn't exactly turn out to be what people hoped for, but it can also be argued that the Pistons did right by drafting him, and the Serbian actually had success as an NBA player.

You might not even remember that his guy played five years and over 350 games in the NBA so let me refresh your memory because this is the story of Sergio Rodriguez aka El Chacho.

Tiny Giant: Why Facundo Campazzo's NBA Career Fell Apart
In 2020, Facundo Campazzo was one of the best players in Europe but decided to put that on hold to pursue his NBA dream. Campazzo’s resume looked like that of a player who could make the jump to the NBA, but when you are a 5-foot-10 classical point guard, the odds are against you no matter how good you are.

Like so many ex-NBA players in this summer, Jahlil Okafor, the 3rd pick in the 2015 draft, moved to Europe during the off-season in what his new head coach called an opportunity Okafor can't waste. So far, so good, as the 27 year old center has played very well in Europe's strongest national league.

Anthony Parker’s basketball journey was anything but easy. He put together a good enough college playing career at Bradley University to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft. But when he got to the league, he was anything but good enough. Parker found an option in Maccabi Tel Aviv, an Israeli Euroleague powerhouse, where he grew into one of the league's greatest players of all time. ...

I think he's a political victim of "NBA"
Keep in mind that the NBA is still an American Owned league they would always prioritize their homegrown talent rather than foreign talent
Bane - great player, playing for his stats
The REAL REASON is ! HE IS A REAL BASKETBALL PLAYER AND NOT AN NBA ...CIRCUS DANCING MONKEY...!!! MAKE A VIDEO TO SHOW HOW FAST HE BECAME A T O P PLAYER IN EUROLEAGUE WITH PANATHINAIKOS !!
It's ok. He came to Panathinaikos and now he is a European Champion.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If sabonis in a basketball hall of famer he should be one too
You should have signed with Allen Iversons team
So I’m a US expat that has a good number of friends from Madrid and Valencia. They asked me if he would be a starter in the nba. I said probably not due to a major issue. He’s 6’3” with a shooting stroke that starts from his upper chest. Decent perimeter defenders will be screwing his shot up left and right. When they tried to refute it I asked them what was a major issue for MLS strikers coming to European football leagues. They quickly told me mls pace is too slow and the strikers take too long to set up their shot. Then it clicked what I was trying to tell them.
Nice vid
So basically ego and not being a team player
This guy is now Euroleague Champion with Panathinaikos. 👌
Two words: DENVER NUGGETS 💪🏽
The best to play in Europe EVER
You're damn right!
Man no one does Bo Cruz like that!
His legend history will be remembered, his heart was gold champ hero.
Cruz Missile!
Im going to start a buisness and name it MALADON BRICK'S
Here in Denver, our biggest pet peeve for him was that he was a brick layer..he would keep shooting and shoot confidently, but most of his shots were way of, just a horrible 3 point shooter…and yeah too many fouls harassing players..we didn’t miss him when he left

"raptors killed juancho's confidence, he was supposed to be on fire after eurobasket. an nba team with a team playing system needs to give him another chance instead of teams with coaches like nick nurse who doesn't even have a bench mob and just exhausts their starters for 40mins a game."
It’s age not skill
So he won the Greek Cup and Euroleague but not the Greek title?
Excactly so.
As a Sixers fan I will tell you he looks in way better shape than he ever was in Philadelphia however he is still the most naturally skilled post scorer on the planet. Jah is a walking bucket and he was able to do it against the best defenders in the world as a rookie but for him it’s all mental.
The goat
Playing 7 years in the NBA is no where close to being a “bust” and the fact he’s still balling too. Sure he’s not a NBA player but his career is far from over.
@@Mahoragaontop He's a bust. If he wasn't he would still be in the NBA. He was given a chance and got kicked out at 28. He played for seven years, but it's not like he was shining or winning rings. Any bench player can say I'm not a bust because I played in the NBA for years. So what? You're still a bust after all these years.
Well, thats a story for Hustle sequel...
such a pity, would love the jimmy and teo combo
Another example at that age you should get some kind of serious intro before tossing you into the wolves. Championship calliber teams don't have time to develop talent, they need "ready to go" players, which happen to be veterans
That's so right and it's actually true with older players too. Vasilije Micic and Sasha Vezenkov are not bad at basketball even though their NBA stats are not impressive. They might flop in the NBA but it's nice to see they are given time to adapt and we'll see how they'll go. This approach is indefinitely better than just giving them 30 minutes every night and call it a day mid-season.
Darko only joined the Celtics because the Celtics were going to Serbia and then he just stayed in serbia.
IF YOU DON'T STOP PLAYING WITH ME!!! THE PISTONS SHOULD HAVE GAVE ME THAT MONEY FOR WHAT HE DID!!! GOOD GRACIOUS!!!! THE POSTER CHILD FOR BUST!!!😢
I think Darko's face is in the dictionary when you look for "Bust"
Jokic is the player Milicic should have been.
As a piston fan this draft pick still haunts me😡
In a draft class as packed as that one I'm sure it hurts. Hopefully the championship makes it a little less painful 😀
Should of drafted Melo. Would of been a way better look for the NBA
Chris Bosh actually would have been a better fit in Detroit.
Melo my favorite player lol I just feel like he could of won his championship there
Beast
Cuz he's white.... That's why no-one calls him a flop or a bust
people do tho......
Literally everyone does, yeah.

Combination of being far from home and lack of opportunity.
He just flat out sucks he got plenty of opportunities
The NBA just wasn't for him, unfortunately. He was given plenty of minutes and his assist numbers were actually pretty good but his scoring and TO ones not so much.
@@ryanfeyrer8155@ryanfeyrer8155 i dont know Chacho's story much but opportunities doesn't matter if environment is wrong. explain why Compazzo kills in Europe buy didnt "make" it in USA? it's simply different culture. that's why we have "FIBA Bogdanovic" and NBA Boggie. that's why some NBA players leave for Europe and don't look back
He was my favourite non nba player during the Tau vitoria days!
The guy was a machine.
Didn't know he played in Europe 😮
I hope he makes it back to the NBA.
He recently gave an interview where he said he felt that if he was fit, he dominated in the NBA and he wants to go back. I mean we'll see, I'd like to see him in the Euroleague.
He doesn't have the right look for the NBA. The NBA is looking for European bigs. Theyre trying to bring in more international viewers so they need to diversify their rosters. As of right now there are way to many black people in the league.
🔥 I hope the Clippers keep him

Sweet. I remember this dude and always wondered what happened to him. Seemed like a perfect fit for the Spurs.

title is misleading lol ...never made the nba means he never played an nba game or got signed by an nba team
dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/make-it Edit: if we'd said he never made it TO the NBA then you would of course be right.
Set up. They realize they probably didn't want/need him and perfect way to stop the contract .
Players are supported by an NBA team if they are part of the franchise. Francise aint basketball, this is what ruins the NBA , its more a show than basketball. Spanoulis deserved more chances in his rookie year in the Rockets, but he wasnt part of the francise. Something similar happened to Nick Galis, the Celtics preferred to support other rookies than him, Aris offered more money than the Celtics, the rest its history. Fortunately, a loss for one is a win for another; Greek and European basketball were benefited by these two legends.
Very well put!
Great video, and amazing analysis!! Thank you for your hard work!!
Very much appreciated, Ilias!
Bro could’ve been good with very limited minutes. But he was asked to play 25-30 minutes a game because all of the nuggets starting guards got hurt.
At one hand it gave him a great chance to prove himself, at the other hand it was too much too quickly I guess.
