Triumph TF 250X Ride & Impression
Triumph TF 250-X dirt bike first ride and review. I got to ride my friends Triumph TF 250-X mx bike and help him break it in spinning quite a few motos on it. I give my thoughts and overall impression with characteristics that I felt as an average vet rider weekend warriors viewpoint. I've been on quite a few different brands this year and Over the past years, been on numerous brands of bikes so I have I feel a decent portfolio to compare this new bike towards. Hope this helps anyone looking at these. I do highly recommend if you have the opportunity to ride one do it. I think you'd actually be pretty impressed. It was nothing like what I had preDetermined in my mind of how the bike was gonna be. Far exceeded my expectations. I'd never thought I'd be a 250f guy but this has me really thinking about my decisions on the future. #dirtbike #Triumphreview #motocross #350vs250

Always having traction issues with my 2000 cr 125 thinking of running a mx14 on the rear 110/90 tyre size, what would you recommend for the front ? I ride a mixture of tracks mainly sand but also some hard pack
The MX14 will definitely help with straight line traction. Especially on a 125, They don't have the power to create as much wheel spin so should hook up really well. I would actually look at a 100 size just because of the power issues with 125s the 110 might bog it down a little with the extra rotating mass from the 110 and the extra grip from the mx14 might go through your clutchs a little faster keeping RPMs up, just a thought. I run a dunlop 3s i really like it aggressive tread for soft stuff but seems to do really well on hard pack. Even though it's a soft intermediate tire, I prefer it more than the mx53 that I have on my two stroke.I'm actually switching it right now to a dunlop 3s.
Riding off rode without a spark arrestor is foolish and moronic. I see fires every year caused by stupid morons.
What a bike brings back good memories
I've been running heavy equipment my whole life always wanted to get in to track building been riding for years if u ever need a hand hit me back
Yeah for sure, I will have to say it is super fun running equipment on a track. We're up in alpena, michigan track is alpena cycle club.If you ever see one of our ride days posted or something, come check it out and hit me up My name's blake.
Owned & built racetrax Arkansas just moved to Michigan bought ten acres buildin track hopkins great video good info thx
That's awesome, and thanks. Anytime you're up north, the track's Alpena cycle club. We have a couple of public ride days throughout the year. If you want to check us out, we have a good group of local guys that show up That are fun to hang out with.
You're doing it, man!!! Keep up the hard work!! Success isn't easy!
Thanks!
Great idea for the video. Thank you!
Thanks! 👍
Dammn I get hard listening to this beauty🥰
Lol, when I let people ride it and hear it on the track over the other bikes, I do too.
How do you stop the exhaust leak around stock header
Luckily mine was really close to start with, but I got it to completely seal by grinding the inside part of the clamp down where the bolt goes through to give it a little more room before maxing out on itself and then tightening it and loosing it up a bunch of times to compress the metal of the slip on part to tighten the fit. It got me what I needed to seal it up.
@@BRAAAPCREWMOTOyou actually really only need to throw a light layer of rtv red or copper gasket maker onto it then slide the pipe on the header. That’s the instructions per fmf as well.
Kick start twerking lol
Nice bike man
Thanks!!
Cheating fucks use this bullshit
Link to the subframe ?
I just moded my YZ250 2-stroke engine for more low end power, (v-force reeds, FMF Gnarly pipe, lower the cylinder by not using the cylinder base gasket (still almost .050" squish clearance, good, but use a very good gasket sealer because you don't want a leak. I use "3M 847 Nitrile rubber and gasket adhesive, brown", and lay a nice bead with a syringe), and use 100 octane gas. I could not feel how good this tire was with pretty wimpy low and mid range power of the YZ250, (a top end engine, to try to keep up with 450's on a modern track,---still ain't happening.) because once you get to the higher rpm's,where the power is on the stock bike, you are moving pretty good and any decent tire will do. But with more low end power, you can feel the tire shine right off idle (pretty much), and it is so easy to loft the front end over stuff at lower rpm's. I say for any ground the tire can sink its teeth into,---this tire is hard to beat. Pulling the front wheel off the ground when shifting,--in sand! I have never had that happen before with out a paddle tire even with great engines. That tire is staying on my bike. :) Doug In Michigan
I have a built YZ250 2stroke also but haven't put this tire on yet because I was worried about bogging down low from the extra traction it gives. My current tire spins a little bit, helping keep the RPMs up, making it so I don't smoke my clutch, by having it covered to get out of corners. Any extra labor on the clutch compared to your old tire with the built motor, I really want to put this on my 250, but I don't want to abuse my clutch having it on which translates to I'm cheap lol
How does the kick start move 💀
Was just old and wore out on the swivel joint. I replaced it with a new one, so all fixed.
I have a 22 yz450f and looking at adding an exhaust myself. What you said is exactly what I was looking for. I was wanting more linear power and also wanting to be able to run 3rd gear a little better. Also glad you touched on the sprocket, because I was looking at going to a 50t but you said you may go back down to a 49t. I’m an older rider and looking to help be smoother in the corners to keep from wearing me out so bad. Thanks for the review!
If you want a bigger Bang for your buck night and day difference to smooth the power out. I recommend a vortex ECU from XPR or twisted development. I got the ECU after the FMF exhaust and wish I would have gone to the ECU first cause it feels like a completely different motor in the bike. I don't get nearly as tired. I would highly recommend one but I don't know what your budget is. Exhaust helps a little ECU helped a lot. Link to video: ua-cam.com/video/dUAxTwOetLs/v-deo.html
🔥🔥🔥
Awesome short man great vid
Thanks, I wanted to make a couple of clips of what I was looking for when I was buying one. Thanks for watching!
@BRAAAPCREWMOTO all good ay I was wondering is there like a noticable sound difference with the fmf ? I want to keep the stock header but get the muffler....
Yeah, there is. You can tell a little bit in the video, but in person, it's a big difference. It's super throaty and a deeper tone, especially with the spark arrestor insert out.
@BRAAAPCREWMOTO thanks so much man that's just pushed me over the edge to get one haha 😄
Glad I could help lol
So what would be the first thing you’d get if not a slip on? (it’s what you said at the end)
I would say hands down an aftermarket ECU. After getting my Vortex ECU that by far is the most bang for the buck, night and day difference mod I've ever bought for any 4 stroke, that's engine performance related. I have one map that makes it seem like a different motor got put in the bike, very managable, and keeps pulling to the moon with little to no engine braking. The slip-on is nice, and it helped smooth out the power delivery a little before i put the ecu on, but it's a mod you kind of feel but not world changing for the price. If you're looking for big changes like making it more manageable or waking up the motor in curtain RPM ranges a ECU will be my first purchase from here on out on any bike I get because they do make a massive difference the second you get on the bike you feel it. And thanks for watching till the end! I would buy the slip-on again it would just be way down the necessities list, though. More of for the bling, pretty to look at factor purchase.
Love it man !
How does it stay on mid-hard gravel? And I wonder what to choose - mx14 or mx34 to the rear. Thanks for the answer!
I would say hard pack with loose stuff on top the MX34 might be better all around if the riding conditions are consistently that. When its hard with loose objects on top, MX14 seems to wallow side to side on acceleration where an MX34 doesn't seem to as much if at all comparatively. Also, hard pack sections seem to round off the knobs on the MX14 considerably faster. If it's 50/50 hard and the other parts really loamy or sandy, I would personally deal with the hard pack downfalls because in soft conditions the MX14 is way better to outway the downfalls of the hardpack... for me anyway. And that's what I actually ride consistently a 1/2 hard 1/2 soft track.
This tire is hard to beat for any ground it can sink its teeth into. A hard gravel road will wear the edges if you are on the gas, but you still don't notice a lot of change because of the scoop design on the softer ground from what a magazine said. I would not use it for hard ground. Lucky in Michigan, most of the ground is perfect for it, and I just don't gas it on the few hard surfaces.

This song takes me to my childhood watching The Labyrinth 😂
I was feeling nostalgic lol
How long is the fmf pipe?
33 1/2 inches full length. From the back bolt hole mounting point to the end of exhaust is 8 inches.
Yea you big companies took all the fun out the sport all it is is train train train now used to be way more laid back back in the day it’s almost impossible to be on top if your not training everyday

Absolutly... nothing compares to Moto, as a sport fan.
These riders get paid to win championships
They absolutely do.
Exactly and some people don’t understand that
Hi, What size are you using for the 450f and what size do you recomend for a 250f and a 220 pound rider ? I'm about to buy a MX14 but I'm between 110/90 19 and 100/90 19 ? What do you think should I get ? Is not for racing. Thank you
I'm using a 120/80-19 on my 450. My buudy had a 100, He ran it mainly for power, his 19 crf250 was underpowered in soft conditions. The 100 got in deep ruts easier but I think at the expense of traction, lean angle on non rutted corners and starts, just because theres not as much tire hitting the dirt, it looked really small on the bike but that size helped out the motor a little bit. A 110 your going to get more comfort as a bigger guy like Me cause there's more tire to compress on landings and small bump absorption. You'll have a little more traction on throttle and breaking from what ive felt. A minus is you will give up a little power but some people wouldn't even notice it depending on skill level. My buddy was looking for every ounce of power fast B to A rider went back to a 450 this year because of that. I would say comfort, traction get a 110, 100 for helping motor and deep narrow ruts. Just my opinion from the little ride session I've done on both those sizes on other people's bikes.
My bike (YZ250 2-stroke, about the same hp as your 250f), comes with the 110/90-19, which I have in the MX33 and this tire. The MX14 is actually a bit narrower than the MX33, and I think for good reason, (better in ruts IMO). I think you would like the 110 just fine. I would say the 100 is good for a 125.
After that front end coming up like that my cowardly ass would have scrubbed and doubled but not this man he’s built different
Yes he is, that's the reason why I was filming him. I could tell lap after lap he was just sending it no matter if he got sketchy or not. I could tell one time or another he was gonna come up short. He was just sending it trying to make it everylap. Bit him for sure.
Has to be the biggest scam ever
You definitely leave going wow that was expensive for that, and I have just as good of time with $50 tickets.
Whys the video backwards? Shouldnt the mains be at the end of the video not the start
Mainly because thats what people really want to see. A huge majority of people on youtube dont watch videos all the way through. So when I do it in chronological order people watch for 20% of the video and click off. This one is reversed order and is at 70% viewership all the way through the video, which is high for any youtube video. Viewer retention above 50% is hard to get on all channels. So I just started putting the main stuff in the beginning for casual viewers, and if someone feels like watching all the way through and analyzing riders from the morning qualifyers like I like to do, its in there too.
Of course it was Benny bloss
I love my 04
Definitely keepers!
Dunlop markets this tire poorly IMO. I only ran the tire twice. Once at a friends place who has some land and a fun woods track. There is some harder ground there, and I noticed knob long crack lines 1mm under the sharp drive edge, but the edge had not broken off yet. Then I rode the Michigan trails for only about 10 miles before I broke a rob or two, (good now) and no additional wear is seen. I know Dunlop says they designed the tire to be better in harder ground than sand, but it is just seen as another scoop sand tire to us IMO. In reality, if the ground is rich enough to grow plentiful grass, it will be a hard tire to beat for that ground or anything softer and won't wear out fast. It should be called a grass/sand tire. Now before I broke my ribs in the sand whoops on my low end anemic YZ250 2-stroke, I did notice that even in the low powered low rpm range, the tire would hook up way better than my old MX33 and make it much easier for me to loft my front end over whoops. I will boost the low end power this winter.
Do you ride mainly trails during a full season just curious for who's giving these tires a try. I did 90% track with this tire it did wear faster then my mx33 but with the additional performance, I think, outweighs the shorter tire life for me. I will definitely be putting this on one of my bikes again.
I’m in Michigan too. Super bummed.
Lol I know what you mean. Me and my wife would battle on Pulp Mx every weekend and talk trash on each others picks. This year is the testing year for a replacement for that.
Yeah we had a league going at work and it was the same thing 😂I liked the handicap a structure. Well shit…
you're smart for not removing the TPS. I removed mine and now I cant calibrate it. also the bike sounds like you need to pack the silencer...
Done and done! I did it right after I made the video. it was like a wet oil rag, probably cut 3 pounds off the bike when I changed it lol looked like it hadn't been changed since the original owner which was a long time ago.
sick! I bet it runs soo good now. definitely a rare find. dont sell it!!!! @@BRAAAPCREWMOTO
Yeah, this one is a keeper. I learned from my past bikes that when a bike makes you smile when you ride, it should never be sold.
After seeing what the Pro Factory Race teams did to thier Race Spec Tires. With Special compound not sold to amateurs . Plus seeing all the top Pro's loose traction and washout. I will continue buying the Hoosier IMX25's. Maybe even buy the Pirrelli MX32's. Dumblop quit making their best performing highest selling tire the amateurs bought. The Dumblop 756..
Funny you brought the Hoosiers up. I'm switching to them next season and heard nothing about positive feedback besides durability, but my Dunlops seem to be getting the same hours so I figured why not switch.
@@BRAAAPCREWMOTO there is no better front tire than Hoosier
That's what I heard. That's the main reason I'm going to mount some up. I just don't trust my front MX33. I've rung my bell one two many times now with it.
@BRAAAPCREWMOTO Remember Hoosiers are Race Tires. Plus sensitive to air pressure. Run recommended air pressures.
@@dennismillus4581 will do I will definitely do that. It helps my 2024 moto goal is to setup and check my bike before every moto race and practice instead of rushing onto the track and dropping the ball.
How much for that gas tank?
It was on the bike I refurbished it with step sanding and finished it with plastic buffing compound. I think new there like $275.
Best tire period 👌 I took mine off like a idiot and wasted my money on the new mx34 tire there is nothing like running that mx14 so awesome 👌 👏 and you can run them anywhere sand mud clay whatever and it will do amazing 👏
I totally feel the same way. I feel like it's the best all around tire i've ever used.
You should really try to test out the Hoosier IMX25'S.
My area is a little bit of clay, not many rocks, mid pack dirt with exposed roots, only other place I ride is a gravel pit with a lot of loose dirt and sand. Think this tire would hold up okay on the mid pack dirt and exposed roots?
My guess would be 10 to 12 hours depending on how picky you are with feel and performance losses. Anything over 12 I'm guessing would be on borrowed time. As long as they don't throw knobs. I'm at 12 hours with similar conditions, I'm going to say I have 30 to 40% wear. Its definitely not as durable as a mx33/mx34 but every one whose rode my bike With both tire variations on it says the mx14 is definitely a good setup, and surprised how well it does on mid hard stuff, Granted most of stuff I ride has softcorners everywhere and the hard packs in the straight aways And jumps.
@@BRAAAPCREWMOTO thanks for the info and advice, I think I’ll hold off on it right now. My bike has beat up the starcross 6 that’s on it in about 20 hours of ride time, I have a feeling I’d only get 3 hours of riding with knobs before I end up running a race slick in the rear lol. Hopefully Dunlop comes out with a harder compound version, cause I love their tires. The MX33 is by far the best front tire I’ve ever ran
Any ground it can dig its teeth into, and the tire is awesome. Roots and branches I hear is good also from another channel who did a hare scrambles with it on the East coast. I ran over a dry branch on my little track, and it ate half way thorough the 3" diameter stick like a tire trench. :)
I rode mine on Michigan CCC trails (The little O), sand and mid-pac ground. Lots of whoops and berms, 3rd gear stuff, very little clay or rocks. Wear so far is totally acceptable, (again, no clay riding). Big advantage in the sand whoops, easier to get the front end over them because it hooks up better. I think I found a new favorite tire for the Michigan trails.
Just Bought this tires for michigan trails! Rose city St Helen trails and occasionally trails up by black lake.
too cool, probably had the crank balanced too
I wouldn't be surprised if it was lol
Bike's got a sick bark!
Thanks, it's got the bite to back it up too! Lol Super fun play around bike.
No matter how much money is put into a yamaha, the kickstart will always jiggle around. True yamaha traditionalist right here.
Yamaha Trademark i guess. My yz80 as a kid I remember jiggling around really bad also, no matter what I did to it.
If u buy a new one it won’t jiggle.
Looks beautiful Next time your at the dealer You can fix the kickstart rattle for under $10 dollars When they rattle, they start getting stuck out after a while You can replace the spring and the single ball that goes in the kickstart lever
Thanks for the info and actually pointing it out. I didn't even notice it was doing it. I'm putting it on my winter to do list when I break it down to cerekote the frame and do the top end.
i think ken roczen has potato chips for brains
