    I'm so happy for you! I always love seeing these "My Late Diagnosis Autism and/or ADHD Experience" stories. Especially because so often it is a relief, even a celebration, because going through life feeling broken and constantly wondering if you are just a "bad" person is soul crushing. Thank you for sharing your experience so that others might gain insight as well. Remember that accommodating yourself isn't selfish, you don't have to suffer through things that "aren't a big deal" according to allistics. You deserve to be comfortable and authentic. Always.

      @@timarisworld Another weird thing to think about is if our theory is right, think about how many other people might have a different favorite color. They might like red and you like blue, but their red is your blue. What if an individual's preferred color(s) was like a temperature preference? People have different preferred colors (temperatures), but there is a range of colors that just looks more appealing (there's a temperature range that is normally more comfortable for people to live in). I was going to explain more, but I saw how long my message was getting...

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld Місяць тому

      that’s so interesting because it makes me think of how there are warm colors and cool colors. and i do feel like different people will prefer different ranges of colors based on their personality. like more fiery and intense people may be drawn to warm colors like red and orange but more chill, laid-back people may prefer cool colors like blue and purple. i think about colors a lottt lol

    13:50 I've heard about this argument but I think it's just silly. I know i should be nicer but I don't think its reasonable at all 😔. Pretty much every condition or "disorder" comes on a spectrum so I'm not sure why people are so upset. Was it disrespectful for people who died of COVID if my condition was also COVID but i survived? Was it minimising the struggles of people with stage 4 cancer to call stage 1 cancer cancer? Is it unfair to call myself clinically depressed if I'm not also self harming and suicidal? I know those examples aren't exactly the same but I don't really see why it upsets people so much. Like it says that your diagnosis is a level one. Like if someone who is nonverbal has autism with high support needs, why would I decide not to support them because "they have autism and I know a guy who has autism and can speak." Like yes people make those shitty arguments but honestly they would have been shitty anyway. There's nothing hard to understand that "there's more than one type of autism and therefore support needs vary." If someone is using the existence of people with low needs to make life harder for those with more severe forms of it then that person was a dick to begin with. I just don't see the argument holding water. People who say this arent seriously worried about their struggles not being taken seriously in my opinion (usually its carers making the argument too). What people really dislike, even if they can't admit it, is the idea that the conditions are "the same" because on some level they resent people with low needs being placed in the same category. Like it's stolen "trauma" or something just because they're using the same label for their condition. That's what they're really upset about. It's an understandable emotional reaction, but I don't think it's based in what's best for autistic people, but moreso on people's feels about who the "real victims" are.

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld 3 місяці тому

      definitely agree with you on that!! nearly every disability or handicap has a spectrum based on the individual person and how it affects them

    Welll done for actually going to check it out and not getting offended. I was diagnosed with ADHD last year. I read up on it and found out it's highly heritable. I then looked around at my family and realised it's an epidemic. Strong signs of it all throughout my paternal family. Dad has it, and my brother has it too probably. What pisses me off though is that when i told my brother and asked him to do a questionnaire he blatantly lied on it. One of the questions asks you if you ever talk too much in social situations. He put never. He could talk for England! Every time i introduce him to someone they tell me " wow, he's really enthusiastic. He talks sooo much." I realised he was just lying to himself because he doesn't want to admit he has a "problem." He's been living at home since he was 21 and he's now 33. He has lots of social issues with friends, lots of job problems. He's always trying to do a million things at once. He's nearly textbook ADHD. But he refuses to see it. And what upsets me is that he's so unhappy. He can't figure out why he's having so many issues in life. Why his career isn't taking off. Why he has issues in his personal relationships. If he understood he had ADHD he'd be able to address the root cause. But he refuses to even consider it. It's sad and frustrating. Anyway, thanks for the video. This discussion is so important.

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld 3 місяці тому

      i agree!! so many people don’t want to get tested because they feel like they’re fine without knowing but it can really help in so many aspects of life when you realize how much ADHD affects so much day to day.

    Jumping is my favorite stim, I love vestibular movement. Singing/vocalizing is my favorite vocal stim. (I have Tourette's syndrome so stimming helps with tics and calming myself down). I also love certain textures/pressures for grounding. :) 5:37 (I hope you dont mind me comparing our experiences) I was dismissed a lot too and told to stop doing certain things (motor and vocal tics when they were developing for me) and I was even convinced by others that what I was doing was purposeful and since I didnt stop when people told me to that *must then mean* I am annoying, rude, disrespectful, etc. which is now a huge fear of mine I've had to work to get over, people pleasing and being afraid of making people upset with my presence. No one should minimize your presence.

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld 3 місяці тому

      i can agree so much!!! that’s why a lot of my stims now are things i do discretely because i was made to feel like i was being annoying or needed to “sit still” all the time. i’ve definitely been working on the people pleasing part heavily as well & i don’t mind you comparing our experiences at all :)

    Also I related to this HEAVILY!! I’m Black too and I’ve had a hard time with certain people taking me seriously when I say I’m autistic (and adhd). Funny enough I feel like people take my adhd for seriously than my autism for some reason idk.

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld 3 місяці тому

      i think it has a lot to do with how autism is masked in a way so a lot of it is internal and to others, you may look fine when in reality you’re absolutely panicking. but i have definitelyyy noticed that as well

  • @RambleMaven
    @RambleMaven 3 місяці тому

    Can you talk about what to look for when trying to find an autism specialist? I don’t see many videos talking about it and I’d like to seek a diagnosis, but I don’t really know what to look for to figure out whether they are more inclusive or not!!

    • @timarisworld
      @timarisworld 3 місяці тому

      therapyforblackgirls.com has an option to filter out therapists who specialize in autism & links to their websites. and they are all black women so i automatically felt more comfortable that they would be inclusive to my experience. i scanned each of their websites and just found one that i felt matched my energy and the vibe that i would like to have from a therapist. i set appointments for multiple of them but the one i ended up choosing had an actual adult autism test appointment on the list, in addition to therapy for people with autism, and i got the vibe that she had a lot of information on autism and knew what she was talking about. i would mainly say to look for someone that specializes in things you deal with, whether that’s autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, or if you’re in the LGBT community it could help to get someone that has experience with that as well. it may be hard to find someone with all of those categories, but i would say just look at their website and seeing if it looks like the vibe of the specialist will match with what you’re looking for. ♡
