Because of my own success with this I often recommend reading goals for people trying to get back into reading more regularly. But it isn’t these super high numbers game goals I recommend. In 2024 my New Year’s resolution was to get back into reading because I’d stopped because of serious mental health issues and burnout. And as part of preparing for that what I did was I set a very modest, very achievable goal (twelve books in 2024) as just something to strive for and get the ball rolling. It worked, because I finished 42 books in 2024.
Honestly I love the eye patch it grabs attention! Wishing you a healthy and fast recovery my love especially for 2025🎉🎉🎉
I understand “skimming” (not reading word for word) if you are not vibing with a book or a part in the book (but my definition of skimming is reading to where you understand the gist of everything, but may not care about things like backgrounds and stuff) , but just skimming because you dont like words??? What?? Also, skipping is just a total no. How can you continue a book without reading the previous pages.
I just started watching this video but I just have to say I am SUCH a fan of your captions. I can have auditory processing issues like fuck sometimes so you have no idea how much this helps.
What irks me the most bout this whole situation is how people just don’t care if it’s plagiarism. Or worse, how they try to justify it. “Oh, she was 18 when she wrote it.” Yeah, and she had plenty of time to edit and revise to make it her own-but she didn’t. She’s an adult now, and she needs to be held accountable. Once you start promoting something as your own, you know exactly what you're doing. It’s not cute. People keep saying, “It’s not like [blank] book,” and that’s true-but that’s because she didn’t just copy from one or two sources, she ripped off scenes from six different books. She’s lucky that Victoria can’t sue her, since in the literary world, it’s incredibly hard to prove plagiarism. The fact that she’ll never admit to any of this just adds to the mess-especially when you consider the AI allegations. There’s no accountability, and that’s the real problem here.
When did reading become a competition? I don't care how long it took someone to read a book as long as we can have an insightful and interesting discussion about the book afterwards. I'm not interested in a summarisation of the plot I want to know what thought provoking nugget they stumbled over when reading it. I want to see the book anew with a fresh set of eyes.
Heavy on the reading intentionally and not for numbers 💯 👏🏻
I had t seen that video but so confused and worried. Why are these people like this?? Complaining about too many words in books? I don’t follow any of those people but convinced they don’t really enjoy reading but do it to make videos about books and reading. 😩
1:00 Girl what lol 😭
I’m on Booktok and can average 10-18 books a month depending on how busy I am. But I have always been a very advanced and fast reader….so even though I read so many books, and can read them really fast, I do take them in and can comprehend them. But I do agree that some Booktokers just take things a little too far/ don’t focus on the content of the book, and instead focus on the size of the font, page thickness etc. Which, really, I understand as someone who has certain preferences, BUT to me, the content of the book is what is most important to me.
In my head the girl who was talking about having a lot of words on the page, I think she was saying that the diagramming of the book was uncomfortable to read.
I disagree with the cartoon covers, I love that they are like that and that I can see the characters for the person they are written as instead of just that they also enjoy being intimate. I do agree and simply think the solution to that is that books go back to having a synopsis and a rating for the content and that doing research to what their children are consuming.
They don’t want the narrative they only want the conversations like the text message drama photos that TT pushes out
Seriously I miss 2015 BookTube when it was just book readers. I’m not about these smut addicts on TikTok yapping about spice level. Do they not realize written p*rn is still p*rn????
Oh 6 of crows is the a similar size to jurassic park, good deal of my books are around 400-500 pages
Red queen literally reignited my love for books, especially fantasy last year. So hearing and seeing this discourse on TikTok had me heated!😭😭our queen Victoria is to be respected
This was the most pointless video I've seen
That's great for you 👏🏾
i got six of crows for christmas
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's because being a reader became a desirable pinterest aesthetic. People who don't like to read want to partake in that aesthetic, so they do things like skipping everything except for dialogue or complaining there are too many words.
I agree so much with your takes here. One thing that’s been really really annoying me lately is both GR and StoryGraph- erotica being labelled as just romance. I don’t want to read erotica, and so I have it as a hated genre on SG. But it’s all labelled as romance so it’s tough shit I gotta trawl through it regardless because I occasionally enjoy fantasy with romance and so I don’t wanna block romance. Can we just call it what it is and move on, it’s making finding anything to read unnecessarily difficult
I completely agree with the synopsis on the back of the book.
I think the cartoon covers became popular because the characters weren't buff or thin or white or whatever a lot of stock photos are, but I do agree that I've seen a lot of great adult romance books with real people like Kennedy Ryan's Skyland Series and Only for the Week (the OG cover). I think cartoon covers are still great for YA romance tho
I just heard about Booktube (my collection is over 2,000 books). I was eager to see for myself...what a disappointment. A third of the videos are bitch sessions on why they hate booktube, another third are trivial, personalized crap few care about - Goodreads is a cult, can't read long books, tired of books, why read at all, weekly, monthly, annual, lifetime book goals, blah blah. I had to search for actual people reviewing actual books who did not segue into a therapy session on how the book affected their emotional state, new outlook on life, etc. People are taking this way too seriously. If you don't like booktube, then don't come here. Jesus!
I have a library of thousands of books and to be honest, I'd never heard of bookclub until recently. Or the idea that people have devolved to the point where they must consult an "influencer" over what book to buy. Strange
I think booktubers should stop ranting books genres not as per their preference With respect theyre honest but I think it best they stick with genre that may suit you If some people like red rising..go ahead... doesn't say anything about readers pe ersonality Difference between critique and ranting on genres The problem is not the book but the aligorithms Critique on books you're gebre preference I think classics or like lessons in chemistry go well with you
They dont read some parts because they just wanna get to the smut part.
Sadly, this is true for a lot of people 😕
I want more illustrated covers and less cartoon covers. Illustrated covers are more detailed and look more for adults. The cartoon covers are less detailed and look more immature. I don’t mind the landscape covers, those look for adults.
Oooo this is a great idea!
17:33 I don’t like tropes or the synopsis or someone describing the book but I prefer tropes over them all. (I know - make it make sense lol but I mostly go into books blind let me explain) This is because people give waaaaayyyyyy too much information when going over the synopsis or describing the book in their own words. I never trust going into a video reviewing the book because of this. Books have been spoiled for me so many times due to someone’s “non spoiler” review so I’ve settled with just going based off of tropes 😂
I completely get you! But I see tropes as spoilers as well 😭 'enemies to lovers' basically tells me they'll be married at the end 😭😭
@@shelleys.corner do you find this to be more of a spoiler in the Romantasy/Fantasy Genre? Because I could definitely see that. I read mostly romance. So in my experience when someone describes a book as “enemies to lovers”, 1) I take it with a grain of salt because most of the time the enemies part doesn’t really exist lmao they just strongly dislike each other and 2) it never takes away from the characters story (for me at least). I read a lot of HEA romances (I have more books in different genres but these have just been the ones I’ve read so far). But I could definitely see a trope spoiling a fantasy book.
As someone with auditory processing disorder, thank you for putting captions in your video. The yt cc isn't always accurate or available, depending on the video.
Aw that's great to hear 🫶🏾
