    I bought cheap candles, emptied them and made my own candles in the glass recipients. It is indeed a very thick glass.

    If the glass is heat resistant, it should be safe?

    • @holisticjourneywellness

      Yes, if the glass is heat resistant it should be safe. Remember to stay away from THIN glass though, and be sure that it is a large enough vessel for making a candle in.

    how do you get to keep the wick straight? what if we just use cotton thread and not a primed wick with sustainers?

    I know I'm underselling (7.5 euros for the heaviest, most detailed beeswax candle (~170g) with color) But I'm not trying to make a living from it. I just want to continue making these and making a bit on the side. Where I live, beeswax is 19 euros per kilogram. Most of my body candles (most popular molds) are 4.5 euros. I buy 10 meters of wick, and that's around 3-5 euros. It takes me 3 hours to melt all the wax for 15 candles, and then 12 hours of cooling, before I can use the molds again. So within 24 hours, I can make max. 40 candles. I did the maths at one point, and for my 4.5 euro candles, it takes me around 1-1.75 euros to make. I also crochet, where I get more money. Great video!

    Hi! Question! I want to make an outdoor centerpiece using a citronella candle in a metal container and put that inside an unfinished porous ceramic piece. Maybe put rocks inside the ceramic piece to stable and raise metal candle tin. Is this a dangerous idea?

    • @holisticjourneywellness
      @holisticjourneywellness 14 днів тому

      I think that should be safe, as long as the flame isn't near the porous material! :)

    I made a mistake. I lit my candle then it melted for about a minute then I put it out. Now it has formed it's first ring very very close around the wick.

    I did a lot of testing of my wicks. They make the wicks in different sizes and you gave to test at least 3 candles in each type of wick you use. With wood wicks you can get them that crackle and they make ones that dont crackle. All the wicks are make from natural material unless you get the ones with a zinc center. The best thing to do is get a sample pack of each type of wick you plane to test. Thank you have a great day.

    I’ve been using essential oils in my body products for years and just made the leap to candles and shocked to find out you can not use some essential oils. This is becoming an expensive learning curve. You mentioned citrus but they are labeled as one of the worse for candles as they have a very low flashpoint so when they come in contact with the flame the scent burns off quickly and the result is it smells like burning rubber. Now I tried bergamot (which you also mentioned) and it burns off at a low flashpoint and the hot throw smells like kerosene. How are you using these without these bad results?? I’m using an eco soy was that allowed 10% oil. Is there a trick? Am I doing something wrong? I bought oils that all have the flash point listed on the bottle. I’m so disappointed that now I’m trying to find a half way decent FO that is not bad for me and smells natural and just wish I could be using EOs. What’s your experience to date??

    Hi Lia, thank you for the video. I would love to be able to create all natural products. Unfortunately I tried essential oils in soy wax and I can sent in all of them burning smell. In some less than the other. So far I tired mostly at 4% lemongrass, bergamot, neroli, lavender and rose geranium. Non of them had pure scent without a hint of something burning. I can't say the same about parfume.

      Some essential oils have a very light scent, it's all about choosing the stronger affected ones. Oils like Cinnamon, Lavender, and Jasmine all have strong accents!

    Something to cinsider for the pricing of your candles would be the fixed costs ( business liability insurance, electric, water etc ) running a calculation to ensure you're covering the basic business costs not just the profit.

    Not only are ceramic mugs heat resistant enough to hold hot coffee or tea, when glazed they were fired at somewhere over 1,000°, depending on the type of glaze. High-fire glazes such as those used on stoneware and porcelain are fired somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,305° to 2,530°. I don't think there's a chance of a candle getting a glazed vessel hot enough to melt the glaze. 🙂
