$2 Day Trip from Busan to the MOST ICONIC Temple in Korea, Tongdosa 통도사
This is the ultimate Korea travel guide to Tongdosa 통도사 , the most iconic temple in South Korea. This day trip from Busan to Tongdosa cost us less than $2.00 and became one of my most memorable moments here in Korea. Talk about worth every penny! If you are visiting Busan, Korea then this temple is a MUST SEE!
Tongdosa is one of the largest buddhist temples in South Korea, but it is historically the most important temple, as this was the temple that helped Buddhism to become mainstream in Korea within the Silla & Goryeo time periods. Tongdosa is one of the Unesco world heritage sites and contains several of Korea's national treasures.
This temple also offers a korea temple stay program for foreigners. We didn't stay here over night, but we did still manage to try out some temple food! Tongdosa offers lunch absolutely for free to everyone who visits! ( if you make it here during meal times ) This was my first time trying out temple food and it was delicious!
Tongdosa is a Korean Buddhist temple which is located at the base of a gigantic mountain, and as you hike further up, you'll discover hidden temples that have incredibly beautiful views, and each are uniquely designed. This was actually my favorite part of the day! Korea is such a beautiful country! There are roughly 20 or so hermitages ( smaller temples ) built into the mountains. In todays video, we went to 3 of the hidden temples. 비로암 Biroam, 자장암 Jajangam, 극락암 Geukrakam. If you'd like to know how to hike to each of the temples, feel free to ask me in the comments below!
Hidden temple #1 - Geukrakam ( 극락암 ) - Geukrakam Hermitage was first founded in 1344
Hidden temple #2 - Jajangam ( 자장암 ) - Jajangam Hermitage is named after the founder of Tongdosa Temple, Jajang-yulsa and this temple predates the construction of Tongdosa Temple
Hidden temple #3 - Biroam ( 비로암 ) - Biroam Hermitage was first founded in 1345 during the Goryeo dynasty and is only 500m north of Hidden temple #1
Tongdosa temple itself was built in the year 646 AD, and much of the buildings still currently standing were built between the year 1500-1700.
That being said, the temples themselves may not feel as grand as some of the newly built ones, but these have so much more character and history.
If you decide to take a day trip to Tongdosa by public transportation, take subway line 1 to the very last station ( Nopo Station ) and from there it will cost you 2800₩ ( roughly $2.00 ) for your bus fair right to the front gates of Tongdosa
So if you're looking for things to do in Busan, then Tongdosa is the perfect addition to your korea travel itinerary because here you'll get to experience the beautiful nature surrounding Korea, as well as visit some of the historic sites where history has was made.

The Perfect One Day Tour in BUSAN KOREA that You Can't Miss ! ( Busan travel vlog 2023 )
This is a video with many prejudices: Demonization of Japanese for the way he is mentioned And America was not discovered in 1492, there were many people already living in America!
Is it best to ride the sky capsule during sunset? And from which side is best for sunset? From east side of Busan to West or vice versa?
So beautiful Buddhist culture ❤

May i know what month was this taken? looks cold
Just found out your channel as we are planning our first trip to Korea next spring. Very cool videos. Love the animated characters. As fellow Canadians, would you recommand us to book a flight with Air Canada or with Korean Air ? I feel there's a "already in Korea" vibe if I fly with Korean Air, but I'm not sure if this company is as reliable and efficient as Air Canada. Any input? Thanks!
Hi ~I strongly recommend to fly with Korean air they will most likely cost more but flight experience and food is so much better compare to air Canada !Highly recommend it!
I enjoyed your video. How long did it take you on the Sky capsule? How long was did the train take? How long do you recommend to stay at this park? Can both be done in 2 hours?
Impressed with the details. Hope both of you will continue vlogging your travels. This is so helpful when we go to Busan.
You sound like Kermit the frog .
Thanks for pointing out my insecurity haha

This is definitely one of the best introductory video to Busan, with maps and everything so systemic and well-oriented. However, no replies if u ask questions so won't subscribe.
