Shetland Wool Week 2023 Patron shows her Buggiflooer Beanie hat. 🧶Shetland born and bred, Alison grew up in the early 1970s surrounded by knitters in pre-oil industry Shetland. She was deeply influenced by the designs and colours of her Nan’s knitting, and has never forgotten the Fair Isle allover and yoke jumpers her mother made for her each year. She learned to knit when very young, and progr...

I made this hat for Paul Theakston in his favourite Theakston brewery colours ♥️💛🖤. . . but before I gave it to him it was taken on a full tour around all these beautiful places in Scotland. Your hat Paul has a few stories to tell. Many amazing holiday memories for me captured in one short reel! fair_isle_knitting paulannie_theakston_

A brief introduction to the art of Fair Isle Knitting using a Makkin (knitting) belt and three double pointed wires (needles). It's only recently that I realised that not everyone knitted the same way as we do in Shetland! So, this video will not be news to Shetland knitters but it might be of interest to others who have asked me about this subject. I should also have mentioned in the video tha...
Doe jij zelf spinnen of koop je de wol .
Your knitwear is gorgeous. Can it be bought online?
This is the most wonderful video. You have real feeling for all of these special old boards. Thank you for sharing this with us. Be blessed as you continue with your lovely "work". I don't think that you regard this as "work" at all.!
How are the chairs put together? Dowels, glue?
Thanks for video. Going there next week
Yes ma'am thank you for sharing your creative path. Great beanie!
Thankyou Alison such a beautiful place and your knitting is just gorgous .thankyou for sharing ❤
thanks so much for watching:)
Oh My God! I’m in love 😍🥰 All your work is soo beautiful! Even the ones you call not good is extremely beautiful! And the designs, the details! Fantastic!❤
Thank you so much. I really enjoyed the film - the scenery, the sheep, the gorgeous knitted items and the commentary. I am wondering if the pattern for the red jumper with the pattern in the yoke that was labeled item #879 is available for sale? I would love to purchase the pattern.
I'm glad you enjoyed the film, thanks for watching ~ the red yoke was just one I made for myself, I've not written up the pattern as yet.
Thank you Alison for your summary of your year as SWW patron. Well done!
Your work is so lovely. Thanks for this update. The video of flying into Foula is amazing! You’ve been a wonderful patron and many thanks. My favorite picture of you is the one in the doorway. Great shot!
thanks so much, flying to Foula is an experience! haha, that doorway shot is one of Kev's favourites too:)
What a truly wonderful film, and thank you for your hard work!
many thanks:)
Love it very much. Well done 💜
Such a lovely film. Your work on the old shop and your knitted dresses are highlights for me.
thanks so much, that's great to hear:)
Congratulations Alison, your a great Ambassador for the sheep, the islands, the wool, the people ❤
thanks so much ~ I appreciate your kind words:)
Thank you so so much Alison for sharing all your knowledge, truly appreciate your video
I'm glad you tuned in ~ thanks for watching:)
Amazing. Thank you for this glimpse of the wool week.
I'm glad you enjoyed it ~ thanks for watching:)
Lovely 🌹💕😊
Amazing. What an inspiration you are! I hope to attend Shetland Well Week '24! Thank you and keep up your stunning work. Sincerely, Susie P, USA
Everything is so beautiful
Absolutely fascinating, thank you for showing the rich history behind your work.
Thank you for the reading
"It's really not very good." (Holds up stunning and well-executed piece of knitwear.)
thankyou:)
I absolutely loved this. How wonderful for those boards to have been kept and used so lovingly by you. Thank you for showing them all to us.
I would also really love to hear this without the music, it takes away from the experience and makes it hard to hear the poem.
I will perhaps do another one without the music sometime ~ thanks for watching:)
Would love to hear you reading more poems - or prose. May I suggest, no music in the next one. It’s hard for the brain to concentrate on the words as the music intrudes.
thanks for your message, I will perhaps do another one without the music sometime:)
❤❤❤
Thank you! That's wonderful!
Yum.
Thank you- so interesting
Wow! Such beauties 😍
I live in a remote area of Death Valley, which is obviously very different to Unst. I live in the desert which is extremely hot in the summer (50 degrees), but the remoteness and beauty of the landscape makes me feel a kind of kinship with what I see in this beautiful video.
Beautiful video. How expensive is fruit in Unst?
Everything tends to be expensive in Shetland, fruit included!
@@AlisonRendall Can you buy mangos or guava in the Shetlands? What fruit are you able to buy?
So many gorgeous combos!
Lovely!! Just ordered this as a kit from our Jamieson Wool supplier - can't wait to make this Thank you so much!
Amazing video Alison. It was a pleasure to watch it ❤
Lovely ! I would love to try those too ! Yes , swedish for star is Stjärna, we pronounce the first 3 letters back the throat like your clearing throat😅 I'm was trying to find a way to explain but there you are 😂.....love that the words are so still there, amazing, you do so well. I've been struggling with my health but improving so look forward to a few walks, but knitting by the fire for sure is lovely. 😊
Just discovered this your video, so nice! I'm from Sweden , and would love to visit with the children , think they would love it!! Love of course your knitwear ...and can't wait to try some shetland wool very soon
Update 5 days after my original post here: I've run out of yarn A just before the end of round 9 of chart E. Fortunately, I'd ordered another ball for some other small projects, so the beanie can be finished without any delays. I'm wondering is this is actually a confession that I'm not very good at Fair Isle knitting as a more expert knitter would get the hat out of the one ball. Or, alternatively, does this mean that the length of wool in a ball is a bit variable?
❤❤❤ Love this video, well done. Such a beautiful design. I was hoping to hear you pronounce it! But I’ll stick with the way it’s spelled and assume phonetics. Thanks.
I love the Uradale colour palette! They all look great but something about the Uradale colours this year is so complimentary to the pattern in my eyes.
I'm just about to begin row 17 of chart C. My wool arrived on Wednesday (EDIT: today is Sunday, so 4 days later, for anyone reading this in the future) - it takes a long time to get to Australia, I ordered it as soon as the pattern came out. The pattern is easy to follow and this is the first time I've ever knitted a beanie. I love the design, it was exactly the sort I was hoping for.
I think that’ll be a “must knit “ 🧶
Beautiful. I just bought the pattern the other day. So many options, I know I will enjoy knitting several. Thank you for the beautiful pattern.
Oh my..look at all those flooyies ❤❤❤
❤😊thank you so much for sharing your precious boards along with the stories
Alison, I love your dresses! Do you have a pattern for these?🧶❤
No, im sorry, I've not written the patterns for them as yet ~ maybe someday soon:)
What island do you live on? I love that spinning wheel! Are those still made?
I live in Shetland, the spinning wheel is old, I'm not sure they're made like this now.
Hi Alison! Loved the tour. I love seeing your world. 🗺
Many thanks, i'm glad you enjoyed the film:)
