My mom actually told me a story about when she was a teenager, where a man basically kidnapped her after school and took her to this abandoned building. When my mom suspected what was going to happen, she said she started flirting with the guy, talking about how much of a good boyfriend he's going to be and what a great man he is etc. He ended up thinking she really liked him like that and let her go, hoping for a future date. Crazy.

The videos you showed aren't even that bad! People say so much vile shit about her you'd think she murdered someone... I truly don't understand it. It shouldn't matter how much she complains about random stuff or chooses not to promote politicians when she is so creative and talented, it's what made her popular in the first place. We say we want iconic artists that dgaf like back in the day, but we aren't ready for them. The new generation is almost more conservative than the millenials and baby boomers, we can be so sensitive and this is why our celebrities are so bland. You always see callbacks and homages to fashion looks, new versions of old hits and remakes of successful shows. Originality is not as accepted as it once were, the culture is different and they have to play it safe.

Why does someone sharing their reality, no matter at what stage of success they're at, upset people. Like how can you expect her to be grateful solely because she's getting attention, when she is right there telling you the attention she's getting is actually toxic? It would be wise to listen and reflect on how celebrity culture/worship actually affects everyone. Someone choosing to participate in the "fan" dynamic has a responsibility to honor the humanity of the artist they claim to support. Do all artists, specifically pop stars, need to follow the Britney Spears arc to earn respect? The public will discard one pop star after another until they get the one that is docile and non-confrontational so they can then project all their insecurities onto. We've seen it before. It's quite sick and demented.

i can relate, i had some of the best experiences in community meets where i could be a sneaky little extroverted introvert hahah , there was a whole group but i barely spoke and it allowed me to embody this softness and quite gentleness in connection. A little harder 1 on 1 with someone where i feel compelled to speak.

Oh i love that! Yes i really appreciate those group settings where you can just be in proximity. There's a dog park where I live where I feel that way. Like you don't have to talk but you can, but either way it's just nice to be around people. And yes I feel that in the 1 on 1 interactions- a bit more complicated to just sit there quietly

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Excellent podcast! I learned so much! And I loved how, the entire time, you made it clear Abi was the one *being bullied,* not the other way around (that is especially true and needs to be highlighted)! 💯💯💯 And thank you so much for asking my questions! 🙂🙂🙂 PS: The Parvati question (which I had to limit in characters so some context was cut out, sorry 😅), I was moreso asking how Parvati (in her original season, Cook Islands) came off as a "hero" at that time for saying those things about Penner (which weren't in any way standing up to bullying and were bullying behavior themselves), and only got termed a "villain" after her second season (Micronesia) when - as you mentioned - she created an all-woman's alliance and voted out all the strong male players! To be clear, I don't think Parvati or her alliance members are "still bullies" - in that I *distinctly* remember Nate, Candice, Parvati, and Adam being *very* embarrassed and apologetic about how they treated Jonathan in their Survivor Live interviews back in 2006 (with Nate and Candice specifically emphasizing Jonathan was a "good friend"). Yes, in the end, I believe, like Abi, Parvati is a *hero* who was unfairly villainized for the *wrong* reasons. The goal here is call out *the perception* of certain actions by *audiences.* But yes, ironically, I believe Abi answered it in other parts of the podcast. Ultimately, in the name-calling example (where it wasn't just her - others also participated in the name-calling and bullying, including Adam and Nate, i.e., two men), it wasn't seen as "standing up to the patriarchy," or "Parvati is showing she's a strong woman." But when she created the all-woman's alliance, *that* is how it was seen and portrayed, similarly to when Abi stood up for herself against bullying! I do indeed believe that *that* is how one *actual* example of bullying was deemed "heroic," while examples of women showing how strong they are (by creating an all-woman's alliance, or standing up to gaslighting, or both)! But I say that as a guy, I've never experienced it as a woman like you, Parvati, and Abi, so if any of you disagree, I defer to your opinion on that matter. 🙂 But yes, fantastic podcast! Thank you!
