"Peckin'" - musical number from NEW FACES OF 1937
One of the most bizarre musical numbers I’ve ever found in a Hollywood movie is this number, called “Peckin’” which comes out of nowhere in NEW FACES OF 1937. It’s presented in the middle of a show called “New Faces” being given an out-of-town tryout and it features an array of black dancers and musicians who had not appeared previously in the film. It opens with a trio of farmers, played by the Three Chocolateers, who observe the pecking motions of chickens and then duplicate it before moving to a huge nightclub set where they now become dancing waiters for a crowd of black diners, who soon imitate the pecking motions while a band plays. Dancers come out of the mouth of a huge demonic face and eventually a waitress (Mildred Boyd), still making the pecking motion, moves into another set, a large parlor where she now becomes a maid attending a white bride getting ready for her wedding. The bride is Harriet Hilliard, who later married Ozzie Nelson and the two starred on TV in “Ozzie and Harriet.” There’s a brief cut in the middle of the number to an ongoing battle between two of the film’s stars, Joe Penner and Parkyakarkus.

The name "KIMBA THE WHITE LION" was changed for overseas use when the anime was exported to foreign countries, and the original Japanese versions were released as " JUNGLE EMPEROR" and " JUNGLE EMPEROR, LEO“. The name of the main character in the Japanese original is not “KIMBA” but "LEO," a white lion, and Leo's father is "PANJA”. Remember that the original Japanese title "JUNGLE EMPEROR" means exactly what Disney's "The LION KING" means. “The Jungle Emperor” was created by OSAMU TEZUKA in 1950 as a Japanese-style cartoon MANGA for children. Osamu Tezuka is credited with originating and popularizing the current Japanese method of manga in the 1950s. He is also the person who animated his own original manga works and realized the TV broadcasting system. He was the one who continued to write his original manga work on his sickbed until just before he passed away at the age of 60. He was also the first person to animate Astro Boy, his original manga, for TV in Japan in the 1960s, creating an animation boom in Japan. In the 1950s, the Japanese version of Walt Disney was already in existence in Japan. Without OSAMU TEZUKA, Japanese animation would not be what it is now today! Osamu Tezuka grew up in Japan, so he was naturally influenced by Japanese culture. so human's place in the natural world was the starting point of his thought. Perhaps, like the basic traditional Japanese way of thinking, he believed that humans were not the rulers of the natural world in the first place, but only one element of a part of nature on the earth. Yet, human has been trying to drastically change the nature on the earth for their own intentions, convenience, and purposes, using science and technology without considering the balance of the entire earth. From the perspective of the natural world on the earth, human actions appear to be the destruction of nature. Tezuka, as depicted in the stories of his works, places the relationship between man's selfish behavior and nature in perspective, and depicts the “jungle” as a symbol of nature on the earth in contrast to mankind as the creator of technological development and man-made objects. In this sense, Tezuka probably wanted to depict "Leo (Kimba)" not as the king of a tribe of lions, but as the king of Africa (Earth) as a representative of nature on the Earth. That is why he dared not call his work “The Lion King” but chose the title “The Great Jungle Emperor." (in the sense that he is the king of nature on the earth as opposed to humankind). Thus there is a clear difference in his intention and meaning in the titles of his works. If you read Osamu Tezuka's original works, you will understand the intention of this work he created. If you read Tezuka's vast body of works, you will realize that he was a person who freely looked at the world on the earth from a bird's-eye view, jumping over the boundaries of all common sense, including time, history, space-time, the earth, the universe, humanity, races, nations, men and women, living beings and artifacts, nature, animals, plants, the world of the very large and the very small, the earth and the universe. 1950 - "JUNGLE EMPEROR"Manga serialization began in the monthly magazine “Manga Shonen”. 1965 - On October 6, 1965, a color TV animation series produced by Mushi (Osamu Tezuka) Productions began airing on Japan's Fuji Television network as JUNGLE EMPEROR. It was later exported and renamed " KIMBA THE WHITE LION " and broadcast in the U.S. and many other countries around the world. 1966 - "Color Animation JUNGLE EMPEROR the Movie" was released in Japan's Toho Pictures system. Isao TOMITA was in charge of the film's music. Released as the composition "Symphonic Poem: JUNGLE EMPEROR ". 1966 - The 4th Nippon Television Press Association Special Award. Won the first prize for the best TV movie of the year from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Japan Central Children's Cultural Properties Division. Received the Japan Children's Welfare and Culture Award from the Minister of Health and Welfare.ua-cam.com/video/s3YgoIlQwUA/v-deo.html (1966) - "Color Animation JUNGLE EMPEROR the Movie" by TOHO Pictures. ua-cam.com/video/3nyCVj4TimA/v-deo.html "Jungle Emperor Leo the Movie" (1997) remade ver. by SHOCHIKU Pictures.

2:30 Dick is called “son.” He was a hard 50 years old! The actor playing his father isn’t that much older than him. In a number of these shows the stars, who owned the series, played parts that were considerably younger than they really were. They were paired up with young suitors and were referred to as being young. It’s kind of embarrassing. Powell died in 1962 not very many years after this show.
