I seem to be getting a 12 oclock position on my balancer at TDC yet the timing tab is at 2 oclock which is a Mr Gasket aftermarket type. So is the timing chain cover. And both are cheap chrome and will be getting replaced asap. So I am going with the 12 o clock line on the balancer. I’m on the compression stroke and the plug wires are all new. The plugs are too. I replaced the intake gasket and I had set the timing on it myself for the first time. It was not running as good as it was prior to the intake gasket being replaced so I had decided to re do the whole timing process and hopefully get it dialed in and get the power back, because it was making a rattling sound when I gave it more than a 1/3 peddle and I was told that it was because my timing was off. So I have done the same procedure again and again and again but it just doesn’t seem to wanna start whatsoever and I just don’t know what else to do at this point

if this is a sbc than #1 is on the drivers side. you put #1 on the pass side..

yep .040-.043 is best because as the new plugs wear the gap will increase significantly at times

That’s what I done I cut out an access panel then spot welded a one inch flange all around my panel cover sealed it and with a screw in each corner looks almost factory. Nothing wrong with cutting an access panel, I can change my fuel pump in 30 minutes 👍

Number one should point at the number one spark plug hole then why are the rest accordingly

Glad some of you like this method, but if I was buying a third or fourth gen and I discovered this I would pass it by. I have a 1991 Z28 with a 350 and I plan on the harder GM method.

I would just cut the both wires and solder the new switch wires to the old switch wires and heat shrink the solder joints and cut out all the taking apart of things.

If engineers would do their job the oroper way. And actually followed their oath. This would not be necessary. But as it is...most people kiss corporate ass for a buck and dont do what is best for everyone and instead whats best for the company. I agree that car isnt worth much for the future with all this bad engineering anyway.

or you could just read the number off the ignition switch itself and buy a few extra keys... ;) lots less work than swapping out the whole switch.... I know.. I've had to buy an extra key once or twice!
