There is many ways to do this but in a case like this where you just want to be closest to your dial in then you run it out! Nothing wrong with not always following your game plan. It's good to have a game plan, but if the game isn't going as expected, you need to be able to alter that plan while on the fly. It's hard enough to get inside an 8 pack, let alone when there is a 40 mph difference.

It's tough to beat an 8thou package anyday. Check that hood scoop tray and see if it's cracking on the seams again, it has quite a bit of wiggle during the burnout. I might to to weld it again and add a little bracing if it is cracked again. NO it should not have been a re-run. the timing system got it right.

Since I cant hit it off the bottom any more, if I was gonna run that car for very long, I would find an old thumbwheel Dedenbear box and wire it in on a trailer plug so you can easily remove it from the car. That's what we did when I first started top bulb racing (I was running both classes and we had to be able to remove the box quickly between classes.) If you make the wires long enough, you could literally just sit in the passenger seat.

Have you looked back thru your logbook to see if there is any correlation between the .001 red lights and crossing over against something really slow? It's just a thought. I had a converter in the car for awhile that was really touchy about heat, and if I sat on the converter much longer than normal, it would pick up sixty foot as well as cause me to go red if the box was set up tight.
