    Scottish highlanders especially western highlanders wore Irish style clothing called a lena which is a long shirt with long baggy sleeves. It isn't surprising the kilt was made because of how similar the two were.

  • @bronsonleach3573
    @bronsonleach3573 День тому

    Many highlanders did even have the foot covered because the foot would get wet from walking in bogs during raids and that is a good way to get your foot infected. Higher class clansmen were like peacocks they liked to show off their wealth in everything they wore. Brightly colored hoses, kilt, and vested jacket all different colors though because it really shows off their wealth.

    Thank you for the video. It appears that your lining pieces were cut out a bit larger than your outer pieces? Is this correct and, if so, do you suggest doing this?

    Outlander does such injustice to the memory of Charles Edward Stuart. He did not have an italian accent, he was broughtnup in the exiled Stuart court by English and Scottish tutors. They take shots at hom for being atba siege as a teen an not having combat experience but he was raised a warrior prince. His grand father james being an officer in the french army in the cromwell days an a admiral on the soanish navy. They were no strangers to the military arts. Charles lost one battle. Drummossie moor. But henwon at prestonpans an falkirk. He wanted to press on atbderby butbthe clan cjiefs vited against him. Noted Jacobite historian Murray Pittock ststes that at the time there were only 1-2000 low moraled militia, some being recently mutinous black watch, thatblay between his army an derby. Cimberland couldnt have reached london in time to stop an attack. Which could have sent the hanoverian govt to flight. Who lnows what vould have happened. These same clan chiefs were qeary of even crossing onto enfland, which had to be done, for the govt would never let Scotland be. They had to end the threat. Its also stated that charles party got to within war shot of cumberlands troops the night before Culloden. Murray for some reason turned back, causing thenprinces party to fall back, bedraggled an demoralized. Also, despite what the song says, theybdid not choose the ground at drummossie moor. Thats just where it happened as there culloden house close by which theyd used the food stores of. They disparage charles name for not dting on the field. Saying he fled on a horse. He did leave the field. With jos cavalry an a decent chunk of the right wing of his line. Enough so that there were enough left to reform up in the following days where Charles dismissed them. Most of the modern narrative about the 45 is holdivers of post culloden hanoverian propaganda. Its been regurgitated over the centuries. Luckily we have the Lyon in mourning. Aswell asany other post war interviews an records kept. I do not believe my ancestors followed this man if he were some toff buffoon using them for glory. This was a mitary operation thatbwas taken very seriously with all the circumstance an ceremony thatbwent with the time. Ofcourse ppl said bad things about them afterwards. The victors not only write the history books but also dole out their own forms of justice on those they have conquered. This is why jacobitosm became a secret society kinda deal later on. With secret toasts an counter toasts. Such an interesting time. I am a rebel at heart an indo not buybthe narrative the janoverian doggs give us, it pains me to see mkdern scots talk badly of their champion an blame hom for proscription an the clearances. Stockholm syndrome. The hanoverian an peerage did that. Not Charles. He became a badan an alcoholic. I believe because what he lost. An the men who died for him. Audentior Ibo! 🦄⚔️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚔️🦄

    Thank you for the tips on how and when to use the long s. It would have been handy to show you writing the long s with your pen. Regarding sealing wax, either wax will not work well for mailing. Just put a period address on your period letter, then pop it into a small padded envelope with the modern address. This will allow one to apply period post marks and such etc.

    I will be attending my first Renaissance festival in November, at 80 years old, and am making my garb. I am a widow, and was thinking of making a wimple, fillet and veil. I will wear a cotton chemise, but the kirtle and surcoat, are linen. I will also have two mid thigh long capes, one linen and the other a loosely woven wool tweed. I have just finished cutting out my mock-ups , and will begin hand sewing soon. Thank you for all the information contained in your video. I just subscribed.
