Who put so many animals in classical music?
From early attempts like Janequin's birdsong to modern masterpieces by Messiaen, composers throughout history have tried to capture the essence of various animal sounds, with a special focus on birds and some unexpected animals like crickets and frogs. Learn about innovative techniques used by contemporary composers like Carola Bauckholt to blur the lines between natural and musical sounds.

Custom Sibelius Playback for Ritardando, Accelerando and Fermata
Thanks for your esteemed channle. How can i stop writing in one staff and start writing for piano with differnt key signature and differnt time signature? the problem i am now composing Book for learining harmony. in book, i need to stop system and start another different system. sibelius consider the same pice, i want many pices in the same score sheet.
What you might be looking for is a way of separating the system. If you select a bar in the middle of a system, in the inspector window (ctr shift I) under 'Bars' there's something called 'Gap before bar'. If you increase this it will divide the system. However, if you're working on a book, it might actually be better to just create a Sibelius file for each example, export that example as an image (File > Export > Graphics) and put the book together using a different program using the images you exported from Sibelius. If you try doing everything in Sibelius, it might make you crazy.
Good Morning Sir first of all, I would like to thank you for your great and marvelous channel. its subjects and materials are extremely new. second thanks for your quick response to my enquiry. I will try to implement your procedure, and i will feed you back.
Wow. They should bring you on to their team to improive the software. Thanks
Have you expressed your wish to Sid Meier to release this genius programme to other platforms?
This is only available on Sibelius Ultimate, which I didn't realize was a thing until I wanted to change page numbers. I liked when Sibelius was more mom and pop.
Handy to know!
Well, I guess one of the most famous pieces imitating an animal that you didn't include was The Lark Ascending. But I guess you didn't include it because it imitates the FLIGHT of a bird rather than its song. You also didn't mention the Ballet of Unhatched Chicks in Pictures at an Exhibition. I can also think of specific moments within classical pieces where they are trying to allude to a bird. For example: having the oboe play the character of Odette in Swan Lake, the Blue Bird divertissement in Sleeping Beauty, Morning Mood, Tell's Ouverture or the four notes the oboe plays in Dance Macabre symbolising a rooster. In any case, thank you so much for this video! It was super interesting. I didn't know there were so many composers who had this obsession with imitating birds :)
great video !
I was hoping that you would mention Cantus Arcticus by Einojuhani Rautavaara (copying straight from wikipedia: "Subtitled Concerto for Birds and Orchestra, it incorporates tape recordings of birdsong recorded near the Arctic Circle, and on the bogs of Liminka, in northern Finland."). Great video, instantly subscribed
What about for mobile?
Messiaen is best 👍
Thank you! This video is a life saver!
Why are you so underrated? you go in-depth and have well made videos. you definitely need more views and subs. I'm gonna go and make some crazy music now.
I want to contact you!! Can you tell me your Instagram ID?
Cool stuff! I miss Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky (perhaps a topic on it's own) and how both men juxtaposed naturalistic environments versus artificial ones (Stravinsky in the Nightingale, Ravel in l'Enfant et les sortilèges). And something for shameless self-promotion: I used techniques invented by Messiaen (and others) in my own cello concerto 'The Forest in April', to distort reality and make a piece on how humanity influences nature: ua-cam.com/video/8xwlA7rvvk0/v-deo.html (including birdsong, but the piece develops like a cancer cell)
Wonderful refreshing video, thanks a lot! Some of the pieces I already knew, but I learned about quite a few ones that are new to me. To add a completely different kind of animal besides all these birdsongs I would also like to mention George Crumb's "Vox Balaenae".
2:13 THIS is SO COOL! 🤯😱 I love that people were doing things like that with sound and music right away because we tend to get told this story in school that abstract thought was invented in the 20th century lol 🙃 Like everyone was really serious and uptight up until the year your grandparents were born🤣
Short one or two, I did not know of any of these works! What the heck were they teaching me in college? I definitely can see what they _weren't._ Thanks for continuing my education!
Sorry for taking so long to upload! (I was busy starting an AI company) This is the first of a new series of videos that will be released twice a month, hopefully for at least the next 6 months. Let me know what you think!
Would that AI company have anything to do with music? Creating music? Converting it?
I would like to know something about AI company as well 😅
Yes, music AI, composition AI, but I'll release more details when the time is right. 😉
Cool. Introduced in v8.2 I think. While great to have, still some really bizarre and unpredictable behaviour. Very well explained though thanks
Well done - very fascinating!!!
👏
Excellent, I have been using Sibelius for twenty years and had no idea how many plugs-ins there are out there!
is it possible to add the new instruments/family into Sibelius so that it shows in new projects? as I find I need to constantly customize the same instruments over and over again
loveeeee hearinig my timpani babies pop out

i couldve sworn i was listening to an electric organ WHAT
Excellent work thanks!
I found your channel today with the video on overtones series! It's very interesting! It made me laugh when you asked who doesn't like "Dies Irae", cause I hate it honestly!! I find it very unbearable especially the part with the chores!
how did you make the cover image for this video? the notes are fully covered in it and a bubblier look to them as well
Love your tutorials. Very informed & clear. Have you considered making one about the jazz articulations from the keypad ie. SCOOP FALL DOIT & PLOP? I realize these will tell the player how to play them & notating them is pretty straight forward but ………. I should know this but don’t snd can’t find anyone who knows what they do…
What hotkey did you use to fill the entire hidden instrument with the rests you created in bar 1?
0:45 I GUESSED FLUTE AND CELESTE !!! being a keyboard fan wins again!!!
Very nice tutorial. Works great even in sib. 6!
This helped me a lot, thank you!
Great!
All it can say is where have you been all my life? I started with Sibelius during the death throws of Sibelius 6, and quickly upgraded to sib 7. The reason I chose Sibelius at the time was it’s advertised compatibility with Protools. I quickly realized that despite being owned by the same parent company, these two programs share almost nothing. My goal was to be able to create music in protools, and continue to compose and prepare readable scores in Sibelius. It was advertised that the synchronization between the programs could be achieved through the use of Rewire. To make a long and painful story short, this does not, and probably never did work. I have employed a workaround by exporting an mp3 from protools, and importing it into Sibelius as a QuickTime movie. Exporting a midi file from protools and importing that to Sibelius insures that the tempo map, and any midi data are available to Sibelius. I appreciate you tutorials which make a very deep and complex program much easier to use. Any advise you have about using Sibelius synchronized to audio files, or to other programs that are open would be very welcome. I have been working my way through your tutorials and I am sure I will visit them time and again. Cheers, keep up the great work, I will subscribe.
thank you !
It's not only about orchestration and making new sound colors. It's about understanding all of music and why we have some systems such as the major and minor scale and why a tritone wants to resolve.
OMG, this vid is an absolute lifesaver! As a composer, I use multiple files for different movements and then join them together; now I know how to copy the appearance of one movement to the next. Thanks!!! 😄
Great. May I ask you how to open the inspector? Thank you
You look like Jacob Collier
Hyatz?
/hɛʁts/
in the program, waht does it mean by +- cents
100 cents make up a semitone
Ravel would love the synthesizer.
I used Sibelius before with the mouse and i always thought if there´s a fastest way to input notes. This way is more comfortable.Thank you kind sir!
Thanksssssssss
Thank you so much! Even though I’m already used to shortcuts in Sibelius it is a real pleasure to watch your videos! They are the pieces of art. P. S. - strangely enough, but when I'm trying to use hotkeys by the technique text input (for example, hotkey for a quarter note) it doesn't work, even though Sibelius got this shortcut in the "words menu"
There is no cooler guidelines on Sibelius on UA-cam!
I’m a idiot. I should find this 10 years ago.
What a fantastic video! I’ve got a question. What was the tempo of the overtone series of the low c at 0:00?
