They are so tiny!!!!
Which other demos are in English?
UPO paper works very well for tranferring to, rather than the rice paper.
Years ago I had money and I bought one of each color in encaustics and pigment sticks from R&F. I did a lot of encaustic but no oil stick work until now. I love the medium. So much fun!
Yes, an amazing video. Season's Greetings!
Thank you Mary for this inspiring demo. i feel much more confident and well informed
They're great, but unfortunately I'm allergic to them. That means, I can only use them sparingly outdoors in the Summer, or when it's dry and not too cold.

Thanks for the video. What kind of black pencil did you use to sketch on the painting?

Moo deng for the win
please get a better camera, its so tough to see what youre talking about
Great demo! Thank you.
Pesto! ❤ also how did you make those Lino sheets? So good
Here we used our Easy-Cut Lino (green) and Soft Cut Printing Blocks (white). The one you pick is up to personal preference. As a general rule, we do recommend the Easy-Cut (Green) Lino for more detailed works. We start with drawing the design on the lino and we carve away! A great starter lino cutter is Speedball’s Lino Cutter set. It comes with an assortment of 5 blades that can be conveniently stored into the handle. store.abovegroundartsupplies.com/products/speedball-no-1-lino-cutter-assortment---handle-13270.html I will share your comment to our incredible team members! Mica did Pesto and Heather did Moo Deng. 🧡 Thank you!
i only wish I could actually read it
I've always wanted to try this but it seems a bit intimidating... I don't have any ideas of what I should make for my very first print! I want it to be perfect, and that's the problem. I should just lower the bar, but how?
How you feel is very relatable. Art is about experimenting, making mistakes is normal and could lead to happy accidents! You can start with a simple graphic like a festive pumpkin, geometric shapes, a Poké Ball... With lino printing, you can create multiple layers of colours, we would recommend starting with something you can print in a single colour. Lino printing is super fun, hope you give it a try!
Yes Gamblin is great but has one major problem - when you order they put the tube straight into the packaging envelope... Then the tubes explode. Wish Gamblin made a box for their products they ship.
Great informations! Thank you
You don't have to just scribble with these. The finger painting looks fun but many artists use these for actual drawing and painting-they can be used similar to watercolors.
Mary you did a masterful presentation and really helped me unpack a lot of confusing information! I have been painting in acrylics and watercolours for years and wanted to purchase a complete set of oils and mediums. That is a lot of money to drop in one purchase. This video, that answers so many questions, will make it much easier for me to go with Gamblin! Thank you!
The quality of this video is garbage. I'm seeing it in 1080p, maximum permitted, and I can't see the text clearly and the colors are blurry. Please, fix it.
Beautiful 😊
I adore the Sennelier oil pastels... but I use my hands all the time to smear (baby wipes keep my hands clean)... I sort of don't get using oil pastels without blending them in the ways that their consistency allows. I know we all have our own way, but this surprised me. What I love about them is the mutability, softness and ability to mix and blend...
Don’t be sanding cadmiums
This was the best example how flexible and forgiving this pastel is , is the fact that you do not know any painting but the result still somewhat ok. Thank you
That's a very interesting looking pallet knife. I like the way you can stand it up on end!
I was introduced to Aqua cast after watching Louise Singleton videos on YT I’ve purchased all the Aqua cast now well the original, black and texture just to order the tin cast. I also want to try the Art Resin
This was a fantastic video to watch! Definitely the most educational.. Thank you! 😊 The thing about them never drying has really bothered me but to know I can spray vanish is really helpful.
do you recommend using a white palette or a medium grey palette? I Am new too color mixing with oils
Hi Sylvia, we recommend using a grey palette over a white palette because of many benefits, such as: Grey palettes allows you to better judge values. Since grey is neutral, it provides a middle ground that makes it easier to see how light or dark a colour is. It can also help you differentiate between warm and cool tones. On the grey palette, your colours will appear more true to how they will look on the canvas. We carry Grey Matters Paper Palettes, which are disposable palette sheets. Very convenient. If you prefer something more permanent, we carry New Wave Posh Glass Artist Grey Palettes. You can use a fresh razor blade to clean off the dried paint.
@@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto thanks
thank you! i learned so much.
Or write back and please explain
Please show us how to add gouache over oil pastel and then varnish.
Hi Janis, Applying oil pastel onto a gouache surface and then varnishing is usually the way to go. If you wish to apply gouache on top of oil pastel and then varnish, it can be tricky because of the different properties of the materials. Oil pastel is oily and waxy, making it difficult for water-based gouache to adhere properly. The gouache may flake and peel off. For varnishing, because gouache is water-soluble, your varnish may re-activate the paint. We always recommend creating a small test first. Here are a few things to consider: Make sure your oil pastel layer is not too thick so gouache can adhere to the surface. When you apply your gouache, use a dry brush technique or minimal water to avoid too much beading. Allow it to dry completely. Use a fixative spray suitable for both oil pastels and gouache. Apply multiple light coats rather than a single heavy coat. Once your spray fixative layer is dry, apply your varnish. If you want to paint over oil pastel, you can try using acrylic paint since it is water-resistant once dry. Alternatively, consider acrylic gouache, which has the same matte finish as gouache but is water-resistant like acrylic paint. Hope this helps :) Happy creating!
You are very good at what you do it was a pleasure to watch The wonderful information and instructions .... you have made it very interesting and very appealing. Thank you so much I will have to give this material a try ❤. You have give us all the information that I feel that we would need to start with this wonderful product again thank you❤
I will never be without my Viarco graphite tin. I love everything about the product and carry it with me everywhere! I have successfully mixed with other wc paints to get some great granulation, adding texture to my work. Also love the water color blocks and have all the colors. The nature of the block form certainly encourages exploration and experimentation. Thanks for the vid and all your good work!
Hi Mia, happy you enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing how you use Viarco graphite materials, we will definitely have to try it with watercolour.
Thank you, very helpful and in depth overview of these products.
If i had to listen to this growling at the end of every sentence for 30 minutes straight, id commit sewy
I kept looking for a comment about this…. I heard this too! I was like ummmm hmm. Am I hearing ghosts??perhaps they should she just clean it up.
It is interesting how we all hear, and judge, different voices. I am a boomer, so "vocal fry" has been challenging for me as well. Once I understood my own bias, and made an effort to hang in there with a person who speaks with the vocal fry inflection, I was able to hear and appreciate what they have to say. I was raised in the years where the deep male voice was the voice of authority. Over the years that has changed, and similarly, I need to hang in there with male voices that come of as the sound of "mansplaining". Both voices, on opposite ends of the spectrum, have a lot to teach us. Any older person who punched out of this video because the speaker's younger voice triggered them, would have lost out on valuable information, and that is their loss.
@@MooseJawKim I was born in 1967 so I remember when Elvis died, and the girls on the bus were crazy about Peter Frampton
@@MooseJawKim it's great to see people challenging their bias. I didn't notice at all haha
The voice reminds me of a news presenter when I was a kid.
What is the varnish you spoke of?
Hi Mary, Andrew discusses fixative at 38:29. If this is not the information you are looking for, please let us know the timestamp where the varnish is mentioned, we will recommend varnishes suited for what you are looking for. :)
have you ever heard of layering
I’m pretty sure he layered.
Thank you for your video demo because I just got my first set ever and it is the Sennelier Oil Pastel Landscape!! First time ever also using pastels. You are easy to listen to and watch. I learned a lot.
هل تلك الاوان تتأثر بالماء
Hi! You can use these like gouache, mixing them with water is ideal. The main difference from gouache is that they cannot be re-activated when dry. Turner Acrylic Gouache dries quicker than standard acrylic, so you can use them with Turner Retarder to delay the drying time.
@@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto شكرا لك thanks 👍
Please Gamblin. There is NO replacement for real lead carbonate pw1 white paint for any serious artist. Please make a lead white so we can also buy our white from you. Thanks
Yes, please. There's only Rublev that I know of. A lot of artists have the same need. And if you're careful, there's no problem with toxicity. Please! Make them!
Theirs a company called RGH Artist's oil paint located in New York. They have many diffrent sizes and paints including Lead white PW-1 and PW-2. Hope it helps

@@LouIchioustheWerewolf yes and Ralph (the owner) is great.
Seriously- how did you get this job? you know nothing about color theory!
Thank goodness you’re here so you can teach everyone all about it.
Thank you , excellent presentation
Absolutely fantastic demonstrations: both are brilliant, a joy to learn from Jens. I've specifically purchased Faber-Castell materials to be able to do the exercises and I've already completed the Berliner Dom example in my Strathmore Toned Tan 118 gramm sketchnbook. Without hands-on experience, you cannot judge the versatility or usability of these brutally expensive markers. I always spray the final piece with hairspray and it looks (and smells) gorgeous.
Thank you for this presentation. I’m inspired by your philosophy and products … can’t wait to play with my newly acquired earth tones. Fun fun fun. I’ll try them on the gelli plate also. Well done - I wish your company well.
Will they help me paint a frog scape like this or I guess it could be hills with two fried eggs?.. I just dont get how this shows me the benefit of this product
Once seen cannot be unseen! 😂 I’m so pleased I’d nearly got to the end before I read your comment. I now can’t pay attention to what he’s saying as it is drowned out by the imaginary ribbits.🐸
This is paint porn 🤭
Hello.. I am not sure what you used to mix colors? is that a ceramic palette or a piece of watercolor paper?
Hi Melissa! It's a disposable paper palette. Like this one: store.abovegroundartsupplies.com/products/above-ground-studioworks-paper-palette---9-x-12-in--62335.html
