Restoring a Piece of US Military History – Vietnam War Hamilton Watch
One of the staples of vintage military watches, the GG-W-113 is a truly iconic piece that continues to inspire modern watch design. Used throughout the Vietnam War by US military pilots, its history is as fascinating as it is complex. Manufactured by several companies over nearly two decades, and with a prolific counterfeit industry, collecting this model has become a challenging task.
In this episode, we’ll dive into the history and the nuances of this reference, while restoring this beautiful 1969 Hamilton example. Enjoy!

It’s not every day that we get to open a door to the past and hold a relic from the 1930s, let alone repair it! Sadly, as wristwatch production began to overshadow that of pocket watches, these once-cherished timepieces ended up relegated to the backs of drawers and forgotten for decades… (until curious watch repairers rediscovered them!) Today I pick up a beautiful Zenith pocket watch, gifted ...

Restoration of a 70-Year-Old Abandoned Tissot Antimagnetique Watch
Переглядів 94 тис.Рік тому
The Tissot Antimagnetique watches were the world’s first series of wristwatches with anti-magnetic capabilities (a major innovation at the time!) introduced by the Swiss manufacturer Tissot from the 1930s. These watches were specifically designed to withstand magnetic fields generated by the electric appliances that started populating every household during that time, such as telephones and rad...

You made your own gasket? That's impressive. I would have chosen a strap that was the same color as the dial.

Good vid. I too have a July 1969 GG-W-113, but the female stem fractured and I can't seem to find a replacement. What tap size are you using (mm)? I also have a spare crown from a parts watch, though the stem is broken off inside and needs dissolving out. If only I knew you needed one!

I'd bought a Khaki 16 years ago right before retirement from TX dot & only had to have the battery changed 3 times. Upon that 3rd time, the changer informed me that the watch was no longer operative. So in order to avoid loosing an 'old friend to the wrist'; I visited a jeweler just down the way & was told the stem had failed due to rust. He said that he could match the stem, but for the crown he had none with the H logo on it. So for a 3rd of the price I'd paid for my 'OLD friend of the wrist ' he repaired it. I'd always felt a deep but appreciative remorse for not being engaged with the Nam ''Conflict''. But it was my choice to dodge the draft. With a lottery #52 I decided to choose a Unit that was for the most part; coming back from active duty in Nam. So here's to Them & every U.S. Soldier who'd ever served...
