3 Ways that People with Chronic Pain and Illness are Taken Advantage of

Millions of people suffer from chronic pain or illness without receiving the proper care they deserve because their symptoms are not caused by disease or injury. Instead, the brain generates these symptoms due to past or present stress, which many healthcare providers are not trained to diagnose. In this video, we’ll discuss how patients are left to navigate a sea of unproven treatments, such a...

    Thank you so much for everything you and your colleagues are doing. I suffered from debilitating chronic pain, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, mecfs and a ton of other conditions fir 17 years. 11 of those housebound and bedbound. I made a full recovery addressing my traumas and emotional stressors using mindbody processes and staying in vibrant health for 12 years now. Thank you for giving people hope that they can also fully recover.

      @thedude8526 13 днів тому

      Yes and everyone at some point will feel pain due to stress or negative emotions. You can have trauma and still know you're safe and experience no pain. A lot of these chronic pains are associated with a fear response. You have to essentially retrain your brain to get it to know you are safe and that their is nothing wrong with you physically. It's a disconnect between you and the brain. Obviously see your doctor and rule out anything serious first. If there is nothing serious or it's under one of those umbrella diagnoses that have no real cause, it's likely related to what was said in this video.

      @@thedude8526 thank you for your post. There are people who have experienced stress or trauma who have no pain or illness. There are people who have pain or illness and no stress or trauma because their symptoms are due to organ disease or structural damage. Then there are people with stress or illness who get better when their stress or trauma are identified and treated. I understand your skepticism. As a young doctor I found all this difficult to accept. So did the research scientists we approached, until they put this form of treatment to the test in clinical trials and saw shockingly good results.

    • @DrDavePPDA
      @DrDavePPDA 15 днів тому

      The video would need to be much longer. Treatment involves shifting attention from the pain/illness to uncovering and then treating stresses, trauma, repressed emotions, and other life challenges such as adverse childhood experiences. It is significantly more effective in clinical trials than older methods like Cognitive Behavioral therapy, or Mindfulness.

      Does this program offer grants to those who can't afford it? Being bedridden has brought me to the point of filing for Disability. 25 years of chronic pain and over 35 diagnoses. I'd love NOTHING other than to wake up without pain. It would truly be a miracle. @DrDavePPDA

      There are several reasons why this could be the case for you. Too much focus trying to get rid of symptoms, not focusing on the right emotional issues..... if you are people pleasing, being a perfectionist, not holding to boundaries etc your brain will still get triggered. You need to use the tools to get your conscious brain to help your subconscious out of danger mode. A calm brain/subconscious will not send warning symptoms to the body. It is possible the therapist have missed something with you situation.

    • @shadowsonmusic
      @shadowsonmusic 14 днів тому

      @@LisaBraniganthanks Lisa I’ve seen 5 or 6 therapists and got no results but yeah they probably missed something The problem I have is the pain and symptoms are triggered during sleep So I wake up in a lot of pain and exhausted, then as the day goes on I get slightly better No idea how to stop pain being triggered during my sleep I’m tempted to start sleeping just 4 hours a night because I’ve noticed if I wake up during the night then the pain and symptoms aren’t anywhere near as bad I’m very stuck and incredibly depressed 😔

    Thank you so much for this video. I've shared it with several people already! Just one point leaves me kind of somber. The success rate within a couple of months is a bit depressing to one who has been working this approach for several years and in the past few months started with a working PPDA clinician. I hope the high results in brief time doesn't give folks an unrealistic promise.

    • @DrDavePPDA
      @DrDavePPDA 16 днів тому

      Everyone heals at their own pace. In my experience, people who heal more slowly have a greater burden of stress, trauma, emotions, or other life challenges. They are at least as mentally strong as anyone else, though, and the neuroplastic approach will help them. Two other points are that progress can resemble two steps forward and one step back or treatment can lead to seemingly no progress for a long period followed by rapid significant improvement. In any case, don't compare yourself with others but keep using all the resources that make a difference for you.

    • @carltonsears1537
      @carltonsears1537 16 днів тому

      @@DrDavePPDA In your experience does age make a difference in rapidity of improvement? For example, I assume a person 70 or 80 has accumulated more life experiences that may cause stress and challenges than a typical person in their 20's or 30's. Do neural pathways become more entrenched and thus harder to change with age? You are to be commended for getting this word out more broadly.

    • @DrDavePPDA
      @DrDavePPDA 15 днів тому

      @@carltonsears1537 this has not been formally studied to my knowledge but older people have also had more time to heal and in my practice (7000+ patients) I did not notice a difference in recovery rates by age. One of my patients recovered after 79 years of pain. Another after 55 years. The first needed about 6 months, the second only 3 sessions in a class for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families.
