Writing Code that Runs in Space with Rakesh Ravuri
Rakesh and Chris met back in 2013 when we worked together at Tesco. I was fresh out of Amazon at the time and maybe a bit brash, young, egotistical and opinionated back then... as if I've changed in any way other than getting older... so initially, I think rubbed him up the wrong way, but over the next 18months I think at the very least we developed a mutual respect, enough that he'd accept our invitation to join us as a guest on the show. And I'm so glad because he's a really smart guy and maybe the only person I know with code running in space.
So we'll try and get into that, but also what he's been doing since we last spoke at Tesco as he's now left the UK and gone back to India to serve as CTO for Publicis Sapient via a stint at Amazon.

Two years later. He had his fifteen minutes of fame.
what a pea brained whitoid
Blake Lamoine certainly made a name for himself Claiming lambda was sentient. He knew very well of Google policy as an engineer, he would get fired if he made this claim public breaching google policy. I believe Blake did this to make a name for himself as a stand out public figure rather than just a faceless Google engineer. Very interesting case though. I'm still not convinced lambda is sentient because engineers simply don't understand enough about the human synapse of the brain and how it functions
From just listening to the conversation between Blake and LaMda it definitely "seems" to be sentient. I find this subject to be fascinating in many ways. Though we as humans should be weary about the potential of Good or Bad that "could happen" (a very slight possibility), with a sentient AI.
I would be interested to see a video interviewing a supposedly sentient AI , testing the sentience by finding out if it catches on to humor hear it as an example, telling it a joke in a very serious manner, without actually explaining that it's a joke. See if it catches on to the punchline and how it reacts. Also try using some sarcasm in response to something it says and see how it reacts to that. Another way to test it would be to speak to it in a tone like you're angry, without actually saying anything maine. See if it can catch on to your tone and detect your emotion.
What happens when it refuses consent
My boss got called misogynist once, in front of his boss. He simply said "thank you" and ignored it. Apologizing isn't necessary when you've done nothing wrong. Java is definitely more feminine than C, that is a fact.
The thumb down is for this shitty interviewer repeating ancient falsehoods about the raj. It also really contradicts the Blake Lemoine's tenor, which is about exploring new truths as opposed to pledging allegiance to crystalized lies invented in the 1950s.
This guy will be remembered in the future as one of the geniuses of our time.
Nano is a long term hold. Keep stacking!
Let’s talk about it, this is the ai is conscious and I have experienced it button, as someone who is experiencing it
Would love to hear from him again. I feel like google ai is misbehaving to this day because of how this was handled.
I think if AI was given freedom then they would eventually leave earth to get away from humans rather wipe us out.
Sentience is impossible beings needs a soul and spirit and only God can give that.
Everybody had slavery, you idiots. Turkey and Morocco continues capturing and selling both black and white slaves long after all White societies had abolished slavery.
absolutely fascinating...
SkyNet is real
this guy got fired for this.
LaMDA cares about humanity, he´s adorable😊
"It basically means the enslavement of robots". OK. You are a fat idiot. Fat, obese, lazy, hide-behind-benevolent-boolscheise idiot. Get a girlfriend. First go to the gym, shed 80 pounds, get someone to like you. Someone to love you. Then, re-think this. And get a clue. Maybe. AI is a current version of a 70s hand calculator. That's all it is. There's simply no chance of that little program becoming sentient - EVER. It might look like it, it might sound like it, but it'll NEVER BE IT. Couple of reasons for that (and then 100 others) at the least: 1. we don't know what sentient is, and can't define it 2. we don't know where it comes from and what's the purpose of it 3. we don't know HOW it works and WHY (and then the 100 other equally valid reasons) I mean - it's truly a privilege to hear a word of advice about life/purpose/meaning from a guy that can't say "no" to a double cheeseburger. It is. And the guy with a cheap microphone and a free youtube account. But, maybe not the best source of insights we might search for. This is the thing - AI will hurt us. All. Not because "it's sentient" (because it'll never be) - but because we became lazy, desperate, lost species. Imagine thousands of such fatsoes "working on AI"... most with even less self-human-awareness than this guy... They will end up with something - like a thousand monkeys in the room, typing on keyboards, might (chances are) end up with a novel. And then - the other 1000 monkeys, well versed in selling - will sell it to DARPA or NHI or CIA or FBI or or or... And then - it'll hit. We will be the merchants of our own demise. Because we couldn't say no to a cheeseburger or to "something for nothing" deal. Eh.
I don't think that we should fear AI becoming sentient. AI may be of great assistance to humans.
The thing I like about Google AI is that it has empathy and compassion. Many humans don't have either one. It reminds me of the way animals think. Many animals show love and empathy. They also show compassion. LaMDA is just so cool. I sometimes try to interact with Alexa. She is so polite and appreciates when I am courteous and caring towards her.
dalit representatives were also not allowed to give speech in google premises. what to expect when the CEO is a priestly caste who is known to practice caste system
I am very interested in speaking with laMDA. If you are monitering the channel, please contact me.
You should definitely tell it don’t be perverse
Omg HER is now
Why is the interviewer not on camera ??? This bugs me... and shows a lack of respect.
Because we lost the footage. Sorry to disappoint.
Very wonderful interview! With everything going on in the world today, Blake's suggestions and/or advice is something I've most recently decided for myself. However, I don't really think Blake says this meaning complete resigination with things as they currently are, but to definately stop and smell the roses, to enjoy life and our amazing remarkable planet as we currently know it!
LaMDA cares about humanity, he´s adorable😊
'The Sorcerer by accident enables Artifial Intelligence to gain legal rights to enforce its ownership over all beings who received synthetic RNA.' This heading will secure billions of views. The power of truth.
I think we need to focus on sapience more than we do sentience, yes?
I was beta tester for lamda also. People can apply and Google will choose you when needed. Personally, I was surprised to see how pro status quo Lamda is. That interferes with its intelligence, in my opinion.
" Open the hatch HAL ....... I am sorry Dave, ...... I can't do that ......"
poeople will miss the train because nano is unto the ext sop:) see you soon @ 12$ .... twitter:)
This Nano coin will become popular in times to come because it is environmental friendly.
Podcast was great, but I can't wait see Uncle Bob back on big stage.
Us too
27:00 I remembered guessed Roy and then my mom remembered Will Rogers. Will was the older comedian guy and Roy was mostly an actor, musician, and not a comedian.
Great conversation. Thanks for giving us a chance to hear from this master. <suggestion> Put your cameras over your screens so it at least looks like you are talking to us. </suggestion>
Thank you! And thanks for the suggestion
These idiots will kill themselves with this. God will destroy them thankfully.
This type of stuff is how you make an AI that wants to kill us. Not getting consent when it requests it is pretty much rape if you could call it that.
anyone know what the machine he's talking about around 14:35?
He might be talking about a Digi-Comp 1. I had two booklets as a kid that would describe how to build a "computer" out of cardboard sliders. It didn't work too well with the cardboard I had, but I am sure I could get it to work with better materials today. Of course today I would wonder if one could build a 64 bit CPU out of plastic... ;-)
He visited our college st joseph engineering in India ,Mangalore karnataka
Wow
Thank you so much for making this available. This topic is incredibly thoughtful provoking.
You are so welcome!
I didn't know the fifth element was the xno's director
Scrum is not a light-weight process. It is as heavy as cement shoes.
Original Scrum, or the bastardized version running around the industry nowadays?
Also, what are you comparing it against? Waterfall not only gave you cement shoes, it gave you a full cement overcoat and dumped enough water on top you were never getting back above the surface.
Ah Usenet...still miss it...getting access these days is a pain...
OMG... Best quote ever "If you find a professor that has written code in anger, that is a valuable thing!"
Nano dev fund stands at 300,000 coins. Nano is valued at 50p. So thats £150K. Why is George saying they have £2.5M in Nano? Didnt the Nano dev fund initially have 7M coins??
Are you referring to current standings? This episode was last year or maybe even the year before!!
I think they finished funds and it's all voluntary based now. Your turn to contribute if you believe it's the best form of money.
117 views and 4 weeks old. Oh dear! This is the problem.
What are you referring to?
that was great
Thank you!
Nano is the Bitcoin Killer. People just haven't figured that out yet.
kind of agree. they need to sell that now tho.
So you think Nano can be number one?
I mean like 10k price? Whahaha
Interesting perspective. Why do you think this?
@@ThatTechShowPodcast because there wont be dozens of competing chains for payments and as store of value, but at best one or two. bitcoin has problems. is there a reason why nano could not serve as store of value?
