Rocky Valley is a 1 ft x 6.5 ft HO gauge switching layout. (Still finishing up some details) It is DC analog but will most likely be upgraded to DCC in the future. It represents a fictional branch of the Northern Pacific Railway in 1960. Sorry for the camera shakiness, need to get a tripod!

This is BRILLIANT ......... My layout is also a point to point shelf layout I put over bookcases 👍
@@XBOXShawn12thman Thank you:) I thought about building or buying some book cases but decided to just build this setup instead.
I LOVE IT ..... GREAT JOB!!!!!! 😍
@@XBOXShawn12thman Thank you!
Great session! One car in and zero out sounded so easy, but with one car to re-position first and the caboose in the mix, it all ended up being something very nice to work out!
@@SpringfieldAndWestern Thanks! Yup, even the simplest “switch list” can take a bit to complete. The caboose definitely adds some additional fun into the mix.
Delightful! Simple but effective track plan, nice track work and not too many intrusive buildings. Thanks for sharing.👍
@@chorlton4 Thanks for the kind words:)
YES ..... I LOVE THIS!!!!
Nice and Smooth👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽…
EXCELLENT.
@@davidbrown4823 Thank you!
YES IT WAS!!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏
Very nice, lovely smooth running 👍
@@ErimusMicroRailway Thanks!
Super layout. All aspects for swithcing. 👍
@@frankdemski7242 Thanks!
Very practical and enjoyable!
@@garyvs.carsmore4607 That’s the goal:)
Hi. Great tour of your beautiful switching layout. I really like your attention to detail, there are a lot of nice scences to be found, even in this small space. I am looking forward to the next ops video!
@@SpringfieldAndWestern Thanks for the kind words:) It’s amazing what you can achieve even in a small space! Your layout is certainly an example of that too.
@Guilfordrailman many thanks for the kind words! I hope to do a new layout update video in the next few weeks.
@ Looking forward to it!
What's that coal unloader? Who made it?
It’s the Walthers Old Time Conveyors, painted and weathered of course:)
@Guilfordrailman very nice, I plan on having a very similar layout in the same era. I'll have to track one down now
@ Be sure to upload videos of it when you can. Would love to see it!
@Guilfordrailman i really need to buy the track but I've been waiting for sales so hopefully I'll get my Atlas code 83 at a discount. I need 7 switches
@ They are definitely pricey! Hopefully a sale comes through for you soon🤞
Well done sir. Just goes to show that you don't have to fill half of your house with track to have fun. Cheers
@@MrWireguy Thanks for the kind words:)
I agree ..... Very well done indeed
Nice looking layout, great detail you added . I'm working on a shelf layout as well. Thanks for the ideas .
@@BoxcarJerry Thanks! Glad to help provide some ideas:)
Looks really good man simple yet functional! And I definitely took a note of that idea for keeping the two modules together with the pins, that is genius.
@@3rdTrickGang Thanks for the kind words:) Not my idea but it is a good one for sure!
this is one of the nicest switching layouts i have seen. i don t have a lot of space in my small easter european appartment, this is what i need to do.
@@nivrothvalachus7969 Thanks for the kind words:) I lived in a small apartment until recently and this was all the space I had to work with.
@Guilfordrailman haha, glad to hear you moved in a larger space. i am just starting this hobby, now i am in the research stage, and your build is one of the nicest i saw, i ll use it as an inspiration probably. it has to be something similar. :)
@ Glad I could inspire you:)
Really nice layout you’ve developed…nice scenery & detail…that track joining technique 👍🏽
@@georgiasunbelt Thanks for the kind words:)
Really nice layout! Simple and yet interesting, just the right amount of elements to maintain interest and operation. How did you choose the Northern Pacific ? It happens to be my favorite road ! 👍
@@thomasmcnay4564 Thank you! I wanted to model a railroad I knew nothing about. Being from New England, I always modeled road names close to home but I decided to mix it up this time. I decided on a region to model (the Pacific Northwest) and narrowed it down to NP.
EXCRUCIATINGLY AWESOME YO! KUDOS ON THE LAYOUT 😊
@@jackoszuscik6669 Thanks!
Very impressive and well executed. Hope to see an op session video soon.
@@thewards06 Thank you! I will try to make another OPs session video in the near future:)
Awesome! Scenery and layout are well-done. I wish I had added a run around on my HO switching layout. I'll see if I can figure out how to send you a couple pics, if you want.
@@signman9328 Thanks for the kind words:) Definitely send some if you can!
I have a question. Now I'm no expert here, so why would they put coal in a gondola instead of a hopper car? Thanks in advance.
@@FatCabooseProductions Back in the 60s (and probably other time periods, not sure), they used drop-bottom gondolas to transport commodities such as coal and gravel.
I would seriously consider a Scale Sound Systems WLPM-UNI1!speaker to replace the pathetic stock speaker.
@@CentralJerseyRailfan I will have to look into it. Sounds okay to me for now so maybe sometime in the near future:)
Nice Joshua :) hope you get some more of the NP geeps like you mentioned on FB
@@allanking9938 Thanks! I’m sure it’s only a matter of time:)
The beauty of this layout is that it could be set almost anywhere! Very nice work.
@@JMLoll Thank you and I agree! While my scenery is supposed to be south east Montana, I did have a similar thought the other day that it could be set in many places.
Really nice switching layout - I like it very much! You got a similar amount of industries like I do, just it's H0 instead of N scale. Subscribed and looking forward to your next session.
@@SpringfieldAndWestern Thanks! I’ll check out your videos when I get a chance:)
Excellent work.
@@deanomarkwick Thank you!
Nice job, Bro !
Thanks!
Its certainly got all the core elements.
Yeah, it’s not much but it’ll still provide some fun:)
I'm diggin' it bro. i'm diggin' it. that's a start.
Much more to come in the next few weeks!
Absolutely life saving transformative content to feed our souls and braincells with dopamine at an incomparable level to anything else fathomable in the known universe. Thank you
The track segments where it slows down have poor electrical contact - gently taking the track pieces apart and re-assembling them will help. Check the pins that connect the pieces when they're apart, and gently polish, with fine sandpaper, any pins that appear corroded or not shiny.
Yeah, I noticed that upon testing the set. I’ve since cleaned all the track segments more thoroughly and they work much better!
Ah, the advantages of Lionel - you can run it on carpet, unlike smaller model trains, or other O scale model trains!
Quite advantageous! Although, this is only temporary and i’ll be making a table for the setup:)
this is really great! thank you so much 🎥
You’re certainly welcome!
One of the best looking ‘N’ scale layouts I’ve seen 👍
Thank you very much!
1st radius curves? Be nice to have some scenery and backdrop in the corner to add dimension yes....great looking for such a small oval.
I’ve added some details since this video. Maybe i’ll have to do an update at some point?
Nice layout you’ve built…always room for more detail to bring scenes to life
Thanks! And there definitely always is! I've added some details since this video was originally posted.
nice
Thanks!
Fantastic job. Really like the little details, the story telling aspect of it. Thanks for sharing.
Would you consider doing a backdrop for the opposite side?
@@northmill70 I thought about doing a backdrop when I began planning the layout but ultimately decided against it.
Nice layout.
Thanks!
beautiful small layout .. nice job and it looks amazing
Thank you!
Very nice, Joshua! Great street details. Your design presents a great vantage point of industrial switching in a small town. Though ‘small’ in size, the scene really captivates a viewer. I want to stroll up town for a cup and get right back down, trackside, to catch the action! Very well done! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, glad you like it!
Outstanding layout. Crossing is nicely done. Power lines. Roads look good. Well done! :)
Thank you!
You did an excellent job building that small layout. The track is especially well done, hard to even tell it’s Unitrack! I think you’re ready for the big time!
Thank you very much! I look forward to another build:)
Nice, the layout looks great!
Thanks!
