24:22 OH NAH…💀 a zombie that can mimic vocal language is a total concern if your alone or in a dark place… but that’s actually kinda scary if you think about it and this infected is actually a lot more dangerous. But one thing to keep in mind about “The Whisper”, they speak in short sentences in a ominous manner or tone, and their speech isn’t always accurate or intelligible, similar to the sound of loud muffling. I mean that’s one way to identify them, in my head canon.

I think 20:40 may say "there is no escaping" or "there is no evacuation protocols" but that's just what i think.

According to the L4D comics, the infected have highly altered mental states and see non-infected as threats, sometimes as demonic creatures, which trigger their fight or flight response. Except the Green Flu completely eradicates the flight response. For an infected to actively hunt non-infected would be incredibly strange. It would take a level of patience and problem solving that infected don't really have. Though the hunter zombies do indeed stalk and ambush non-infected, so it's not out of the question. So that brings up the question of how the infection goes from causing regular infected to blindly attack in an adrenaline fueled rage, to having an animalistic stalking behavior in the hunter, to being able to speak full sentences in an effort to LURE non-infected with the whisperer. The Green Flu seems to be able to change how the infected think about the non-infected. The common infected attack out of a twisted sense of fear, so that would mean the hunters would have to have a more complex reasoning. Perhaps a sense of striking before the foe can is present. It could also be that the hunters have put aside their sense of self preservation and are jumping non-infected believing they're saving others from a threat. How wholesome. The whisperers though, they're smart enough to speak. They have the awareness to understand what their surroundings are and can use that to manipulate others. Like the one who knew it was trapped in a room and begged the non-infected to open the door. There are so many hoops to jump through to go from the hunters' state of mind to that. The whisperers and the starers also consume the flesh of their victims which IS incredibly rare for infected. It's actually not seen at all in the games. Once again, the regular infected are not attacking for food. Not even the hunters eat the flesh of their victims. They just tear them apart. What do starers and whisperers see the non-infected as? I think it's possible that they understand the need for food unlike most other infected. A sound strategy for eradicating the infected would be to just wait. Sort of like 28 Days Later. But if some infected have realized they're hungry, they could now have switched over from attacking out of fear to attacking for sustenance like classic flesh eating zombies. The biggest threat does seem to be these new special infected. There are no longer hordes of common infected rampaging around.

I can’t say I ever thought about zombie analogue horror much but I will say there was this one zombie series I read as a kid that nailed what that would feel like. “The enemy” series by Charlie higson was incredibly ahead of its time but the second book- “the dead”, a prequel to the first is arguably my favorite of the series- because it’s start was very like “This could feasibly go down at the time it was written” But essentially it starts with talking about “the scared kid” video, which was basically like an internet urban legend in the modern day. The scared kid is practically quivering he’s so scared and paralyzed with fear- talking about “three mothers and a father” who killed one of his friends- tore him apart outside and we’re now moving in on him. What nobody else at the time realized was that the sickness that came over the adults around him was going to come for everyone else over the age of 15. VERY good series and I highly recommend
