Three Passes Trek + Everest Base Camp + Lobuche East - a 4k Video Summary
This trek was done in April 2024.
I highly recommend this trek. I would rate this trek as pretty hard, especially if you don't take any rest or acclimatization days. Like I did. Please take your time. The environment is beautiful, and the accommodations are great. If you go there, you'll have a great time. Much has been said about the region on the internet, so I won't bore you with details.
Highlights are: EBC, Kongma La Pass, Cho La Pass, Renjo La Pass, Gokyo Lakes, Gokyo Ri, Kala Patthar, Lobuche East
Sadly, I didn't make the Lobuche East summit; I rented subpar equipment, the ropes were terrible and I should have taken rest days. And similar excuses ;)
Again, really important: keep in mind that flights flying to the region and back are very fickle. You can easily run into two or three day delays. Please allow buffer days! We were stuck there for 2 days, but I've seen many people pay for 700+ USD helicopter rides just to get back to their international flight.
I had 1,5 days of buffer left, but I spent them being sick. Khumbu Cough is no joke. Better in Kathmandu with hot showers than in Lukla!

Markha Valley Trek & Kang Yatse 2 Summit - a video summary
The Markha Valley Trek is one of the most beautiful hikes you can do in Ladakh, India. If you want a less crowded hike and love High Alpine Tundra vistas, go visit these West Himalayas. This particular 10-day route took us to three high altitude passes (Stok La, Gandha La and Kongmaru La) and a successful summit of the Kang Yatse 2 peak. In the past, this would have been the famous Stok La, but...
Motorcycle Adventure - TET Sweden - Malmö to Ytterhogdal

This video is less storytelling, more POV riding. Late September, deep into the Scandinavian fall, we decided to try out the dirt roads of Sweden. Using an RTW-ready Husqvarna 701 Enduro LR, decked out in high-end travel-ready gear and a KTM 1190 Adventure S with knobblies and some offroad accessories, we ventured out to try out the Trans Euro Trail. Be careful; full cold weather gear and high ...
Motorcycle Adventure - Nepal on a Royal Enfield

For our next motorcycle adventure, in 2017, we chose gorgeous Nepal. For extra style-points we obviously needed to rent Royal Enfields. This meant the road high into the mountains was pretty uncomfortable, but at least we looked good. And boy was it worth it. Motorcycle Adventure - Kyrgyzstan

In June '16 we took the opportunity to explore this gorgeous Central Asian country. We rented Yamaha XT 600 s with adventure fuel tanks, which were more than adequate for the situations we encountered on and off road. The Kyrgyz' scenery is best described as a mix between the rough beauty of the Alps and the charm of the high plains of Mongolia. A little visited country, it barely registers on ...

Tagline: a typical friday afternoon at the office turns to HELL after some guys bring in some Nerf guns. This is a barely functional mod: the AI is broken, wall textures are uninspired and all the gore was removed. What were they thinking? Rated 1 out of 5.
The Alps on a BMW R1200GS
I threw a tent and some gear on the old GS and rode south with barely any preparation except a desire to reach the Alps. I picked a trip from John Hermann's "Motorcycle jouneys through the Alps and Beyond" (highly recommended) each day and had the best riding I could hope for. Recorded for my own memories/enjoyment, sorry about the headshake. Watch fullscreen.

Sadly, it was pointed out to me Thame Village (at 11:27 ) has been washed away in a glacial lake flood 3 months after I visited it www.bbc.com/news/articles/c785nwq568zo . Terrible tragedy
May I ask what were your trip dates.? You were very lucky with picture perfect weather..& which camera did u use.?? Thank u for putting this short but awesome vid together..appreciated.. Thank you…🙂
Thanks for your comment! I was lucky indeed. I started April 17 , and official end was May 7. Please note at the beginning and end of the trek weather was worse, a very light shower of rain on day 4, but otherwise perfect. Can't complain! Every day you start early, usually between 6am-8am, because the weather in the afternoon is worse. No rain or snow though, but that also marks the problem of the region: as you can see there's hardly any snow on the peaks or passes, making this a slow natural disaster for the towns below that need the water supply. There's a few tourist spots worth visiting that talk about this, like the museum in Namche Bazaar. The camera I used is a Gopro Hero 12 Black, set to 4k 60fps. Be sure to grab a good SD card that can handle 10bit settings and HDR. That last feature is why I bought this one; without HDR the mountains in the background would likely not be as visible. Hope you enjoy your future trips!
Had a wonderful time with you, Bart!! :)
Likewise, Rohan!

Great trip. Where was the vindskydd @2:05 and 19:34? I do also use vindskyddskartan to look up my stops for the night, not always you find small cabins with fireplace like this. Safe travels and cheers! / Ola from Blekinge - Sweden
Hi Ola, The first one is Raststuga Södra Svänö (Google knows it), the second one is Fnuschen utsiktstorn southwest from Ytterhogdal Enjoy!
Nice trip, must have been freezing cold. But where is Ytternogdal?
Ah, nice catch! It's supposed to be Ytterhogdal , which is still pretty much nowhere still. But at least it exists in Sweden.
Hi from Germany - I don't ride a bike but I love overland trips with my 4x4 Jeep. Is this trail rideable by 4x4, too?
I'd say about 80% is doable by car. For the parts that we rode at least. There's a few spots you ride into forests and/or up steep hils which you won't be able to go into. Or out of, if it gets too narrow or if you get stuck. If you stick to gravel or small fire roads it might be okay. Can't recommend it though, it's a lot more effort to prepare and most of the roads are single-vehicle, so oncoming traffic will be a pain.
It is doable but it is not very welcome to go there with a 4x4. So i will not recommend it.
Thanks Guys looked nice where you were riding. Looked like you had everything you needed thanks very much from a Aussi fan cheers
Thanks for your kind reply!
Nice
Now this is my dream job, an office job where the guys are always finding ways to mess around when the opportunity arises.
UA-cam recommendation gang where ya at
im from the future lol XD
Great intro music !
I am from Kyrgystan.
You live in a beautiful country, Perec!
Where did you lost the right mirror? 😉 By the way, a great trip on the great bike. 👍
Zieke shit ouwe
👍👍👍
that looks amazing, where did you rent the bikes?
We rented from ironhorsenomads.com based in Bishkek. Ryan has great customer service. Back then, he relied on Muztoo.ch based in Osh for his bikes, so we basically rented theirs. Our initial batch was bad, so Ryan helped us travel down to the depot in Osh to pick up replacements
@@bwesdorp great, thx for the info
Sir. Nice video and stunning adventure.
Hoi JP. Bedankt voor je bericht! Kyrgyzie is zeker de moeite waard.
@@bwesdorp Thanks
Nice vid. Looking for something light like this
Thx for amasing moments watching this magnificent well prepered video. Thx alot for the valuble info in the video and in the comments and answer. Take good care my felow rider.. thaks for sharing it all😊😊😊
I see motorcycle adventure videos almost every day (i´ve two bikes and i love travelling ), but this is one of the most pure and beautiful videos in this category that I´ve ever seen! why? Because of the lanscap (the entire video), the humor (Kyrgyzs fauna and flora), it as a sense of raw purity (no music in the driving parts) and there´s a plus: the fact that are no BMWs on it ; ) Congrats....
Thanks for your kind words! I do have to dissapoint you though: there is a BMW GS visible at 9:04. We met up with two fully kitted riders, spare tires and everything. Their setup was way too bulky to go the places we went. On gravel they were easy to overtake (as shown). However, for long distances, they were probably more comfy ;) A good tip they gave was to have new tires shipped to places you'll visit before you leave if you're doing a longhaul trip.
Hello! Thanks for the video. :) My name is Brunno Amâncio, I am from the city of Niterói, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although I am 43 years old, I started driving a short time, a little over 1 year. Currently I own a Yamaha XT 600E, year 2000. And with this motorcycle I intend to carry out a trip, which on the way includes lots of sand and / or lots of mud. I'll go all over the highway. Transamazônica (BR 230), and the BR 319 (ghost highway) and the BR 163 highway. Can you give me some tips on which off-road tires I can use?
Sorry, I don't know what tires were on these bikes anymore. You can probably find good info over at advrider.com
Da suck
Congratulations, boy, go ahead, be happy.
great video keep them going!
Well done, nice vid ! Good line, speed perfect in accordance to the circonstances, but next time you should drive the swiss passes the other way around - it´s much more attractiv ! - and drive the old road over the "Gotthard"-Pass, so called "Tremola", it´s a really nice and very impressiv experience. Have a look at my vid: ua-cam.com/video/2zsvFakH9bk/v-deo.html
👍 what beautiful scenario your passing 😊 Wow
Thank you!
Heat video. Looks like a trip of a life time. Would you mind if I asked the cost of renting the bikes? And cost to fill up the tank.
We rented from Iron Horse, but got them from Muztoo's depot so in our case it wouldn't have mattered which. It's expensive, since there are no locals who ride motorcycles like this. 85 USD/day. Fuel was inexpensive, but I'm not sure. Something like 42 KGS (0.5 USD) per liter? It didn't really compare at all.
08:26 omg what a view
That whole mountain range is amazing: picture taken somewhere here: www.google.nl/maps/place/Kirgistan/@41.2349413,76.2555297,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x3897381dfce927f3:0x281058b74e88c433!8m2!3d41.20438!4d74.766098
ik heb deze video genoten van Bart. Groeten uit Wales
A damn good video. Thanks for sharing.
Rewatching! Damn fine means excellent.
Great vid Bart really chilled me out - and no music- what a relief!
What an amazing place and scenery! Inspirational watch your video. I also have an Xt600e here in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and I have a lot of fun with this bike. Good roads, my friend!
awesome vid i realy enjoyed watching it thank you just brill
What an amazing adventure in a beautiful part of the world. I always wonder how you find fuel in these remote areas and how you manage navigation thank you for sharing your fantastic ride
Thanks Peter. Honestly, navigation wasn't that hard. We used OpenstreetMap on a Garmin and a good oldfashioned map. Most of the time there were so few roads it wasn't that hard to decide which way we SHOULD go. The hardest part was knowing where we COULD go. Ask locals and/or the guides at Muztoo or Iron Horse Nomads in Bishkek. When we improvised like at 17:09 is when it got tough. Fuel was harder, but again, openstreetmap helped and we never ran into closed pumps. Be sure to get extended range tanks as we did, because it could take a day before there is a convenient one.
may I know about your can?
Hi Firoz, are you asking about the camera? that's mainly a Gopro Hero 3 Black , with a few clips made with an iPhone and one or two with a Sony RX 100. Hope that helps!
thanks a lot....
amazing trip, do you have a website with information on the route, best time to go, bike rental company, paper work..etc..thanks
Hi Hashem, Kyrgyzstan is very beautiful. We've done this trip in June. Earlier than that and passes will be inaccessible due to snow. I would suggest going between July - Aug. You'll probably see more flowers as well, which should be beautiful with this much grassland. The company that supplied the bikes is Muztoo, based in Osh. Basically the only place to rent bikes in all Kyrgyzstan. His partnering company in Bishkek: Iron Horse Nomads is supposed to get his own bikes this year. Don't expect immaculate bikes. They have luxury bikes (new Tenere), but you don't really need that much bike there. As for the route: almost all the secondary roads are great. The route we followed here goes along many of the major scenic routes. It's a good outline of where to go. Just pause the movie if it goes by too fast. Be careful though, if you go early not all roads will be open. Check locally. Paperwork was easy; but we're European. Check with customs there if you can get a VISA easy. I would advise to learn some russian, but it's doable without. Have a great trip! Feel free to ask me specifics
Bart Wesdorp ...Thanks for the very helpful info. I did the Himalaya lake ladak trip last year and I was thinking of doing a Mongolia trip this year. Changed my mind after seeing your video to Kyrgyzstan. Will get in touch with bike rental company you mentioned and start planning to go on July. .Thanks again..
That's awesome. Have a great trip!
