Metagaming in Roleplaying Games, like Dungeons and Dragons, is talked about in very specific and hard line terms, but most people don't realize the in depth details of it. hey dude this is a bit off-topic but i just wanna say that after deleting tiktok due to the toll it was taking on my attention span, i've been trying to watch longer videos on youtube in hopes of fixing it, and let me tell you i've already watched 40 mins in one sitting without even even thinking about scrolling through the comments. this is a BIG achievement for me lmao. i really just stopped to write a comment cuz i had to pause to go to the bathroom. anyway, i guess this is kinda further confirmation of one of your points about enjoyment playing a huge role in pretty much every area of life (i can attest that ur a pretty fun guy), but at least in this case, i'm sure as hell it was a positive one. so... thank you!

At this point i feel like im going insane. Every time i try and get myself to a point where i can just go on with my life and try and deal with the framework of "everything all of the time" some new bull feels like it comes up and i basically have to drop my entire routine just to figure out even the truth let alone a semi-nuanced conclusion. The fact that pretty much every website i go to gets money just from me clicking the damn article(yes i have adblock, but that click still factors into information gathering and SEO) means that i either have to go with what the headlines tell me, discard them entirely(which can destroy any chance of getting to any of the actual facts as nobody will ever point you to the right sources without trying to scare you into paying them for it), or click it and risk getting got by a tabloid(which apparently *sometimes* puts out good work just to screw with me and kill any sense of actual ability to discern a "good enough" news agency with decent authors vs legitamate trash). That isnt even starting to get into the fact that "what the fuck do i do to just... move on if i cant do anything about it?" just leads into "ah shit the biases and systemic issues are getting in my way again" 5 minutes later, even when the conclusion to "drop social media" leads into its own systemic issues as jobs have started using it as a way to gauge if youre trustworthy. Its fucking kafkaesque and having to think critically on top of that has just turned me into an anxiety ridden mess. I have never taken a class or anything like that on critical thinking, so i went into this hoping for a good method to at least get started on practicing it, a conscious solution to an issue where deciding what "good enough" in the context of research could mean, especially in the context of trying to find something that might not even exist, and remembering the nuances of the argument and the conclusions you draw when it starts to fail you even the next hour or day can be a herculean task as taking notes for everything can just leave you with a lot of notes that you can browse through but have no clue where to even start, and is also STILL prone to your own biases if curated/made poorly.

Here's a novel idea...: _If you don't like a business's discriminatory practices, simply refuse to support it with your labor or patronage._ Forced association, and differential legal treatment based on race or sexuality is simply a perpetuation of institutional racism and sexism. Simply don't be those things or associate with those who are.

Great, people can simply choose to not be laid off by their employer. Simply choose a different bank that will give them a loan. Simply choose to live under a different police force.

@@PhantasmalBlast You can choose to not apply for employment under people who hate you. You can choose which private institutions you do business with. Why would you wanna support or associate with those who're bigoted against you? As for the police.... The state is basically just a glorified protection racket in the first place; it's predicated on not giving a shit about your consent, or lack thereof.

Crt by admission in your own video, is essentially the lens through which topics are taught the racial lens. To say “ crt isn’t taught in schools” seems to be to be very dishonest when WE KNOW from teaching materials that have been made public from different school boards that in fact teachers are using the precepts of CRT in their teaching. So if you want to split hairs- not they Arnt teaching a course on crt. They are indoctrinating children into a crt lens through their teaching. That is a fact , not my opinion.

I'm sorry i started watching this video hoping to get a objective straight forward look at CRT to base my final conclusion on but this is most definitely not objective. Misuse of stats, wearing your subjective beliefs on your sleeve, ignoring any varibles, omitting any contrary data, using small sample sizes to speak on the larger population (just to name a few). This video should be named "My opinion on CRT"

I'm keen on the 2024 D&D rules and I like the lessening of the prescription of characteristics for D&D species for player characters. We can still easily build the standard tropes, but as settings and characters are very personal, the new rules facilitate sparks of creativity. Helping players and DMs build what they want to suit their concepts, which are often subversive, opens up new & interesting possibilities which the option-hungry audience craves. The group can always reign things in.

I do think you are under valuing the skill in knowledge communication. I might have started watching this video because of the provocative title. I might have stayed past the first 5 minutes mark because you are "mild entertaining". Yet what is enthusing me to go learn more about the history of tuition in college, the philosophy of Andrea Dworkin and Catharine MacKinnon, or finish listening to this video essay is the skill of the presenters in making the information digestible and framing it to generate interest. That is a verifiable credential. Though, as I suspect you're about to argue, the issue is that it's easy to forget to verify what you were presented is both engaging AND true. As many a story teller or comedian will say, a bit of fiction or slight omission often makes it much easier to tell a compelling story...

I like how you relate to law because I also had the exact same experience when I started my MA. There was a trial by fire there, too, that challenged you on radically new ways of thinking that's hard to replicate outside of the university. When you have to understand, analyse, and defend the concept of simulation and simulacra in front of your peers with only a couple weeks of prep, it changes you.

Love all of the aspects of this video except two. One is bias and two is the statement “just think”. Bias no matter what is inevitable, there’s even bias against your bias but often has you circle back into another bias. There’s a ton more nuance in bias than what was explained and so many villainize bias instead of giving a neutral statement that it will exist no matter what, awareness of it helps you not be manipulated as frequently, but you still can and you’re not flawed for it. Most appealing to bias is more experienced than you are trying to acknowledge your own. Hold compassion for yourself if you make mistakes from bias, or any mistake. It prevents doubling down. Two “just think”. As a gen z who went through the nightmare of an education system I really need to explain we often don’t know how. We were taught binary thinking and often every adult around us punished us for straying. There is no way to learn, practice, or understand outside of ourselves because it causes fights. Ignorance is moralized and it’s a crime to not know something. If you don’t you’re immediately invalidated, belittled, and steam rolled. Even in a fandom space where the stakes are minimal there is anger, threats, and violence for an unpopular opinion or interpretation of media. Friendship seems safe until you realize how many (including yourself) just aren’t willing to step out of the comfort bubble of “rightness”. How can we think when wherever we look to learn and engage we are steam rolled with binary thinking and immediately put back in to the habit. It’s only going to get worse with age. 9/10 times we need a solid answer because we need to defend ourselves against people who see nuances as a weakness in an argument. There’s a ton of privilege behind the statement “just think.” Privilege in this context is simply access. QUALITY education, mental ability, peers of similar ability, safety, and affordability. The ability to know how to research is a huge privilege. I am still trying my best to learn on my own, it is so difficult. I hope I presented this in a respectful way. This is my first time commenting mild discourse on a video.

Yeah a lot of people and companies did some racist shit. That's terrible. However many of the solutions proposed today seem to be "you need 50% women, 50% black and 50% black women to be working for your company or the company is racist!". Even if the company is in a field that is 10% or less women. I also don't see the point of teaching the fact that GM didn't hire black women till after 1970 to high schoolers when likely the majority couldn't even tell you what CENTURY the civil war or revolutionary wars took place in after they graduate.

I will generally not argue for pure evil races, especially not in roleplaying scenarios. The best argument for them in movies or shows is that they can exist in service of a personified evil, with which audiences have a means of moral engagement. However, I would argue that the idea of removing all elements of biological essentialism (stat blocks and whatnot) from games does threaten to make each group more generic, and limit the degree to which we engage imaginatively with non-human species (or race, I don't want to get into how rpgs conceptualize this stuff). If a species gets +8 intelligence but -4 con and strength, this which would radically shift the way we construct their society, the same could go for many other stat distributions. The problem mainly comes from when we use things like "natural evilness" to truncate our curiosity and empathy with the invented species. In my view, science fiction and fantasy are at their best when they imagine something outside of the human experience, that sense of exploration and curiosity is what allows us to look beyond ourselves and dream of a different, potentially hopeful, future. Edit: Also, it helps when you are working with groups that aren't already established on poisoned ground.

I helped keep the conversation about Epstein not only until he was finally arrested but the sealed documents were released. I know I did this, can any of that be verified? Not easily and most of it not al all. Does that matter to me? Nope. So do I care about your credentials? Also nope. I will be looking at your back catalogue. Show me what you got!

It's like if you only use one source (video essays and articles) you're not fully informed? You mean I need to look opinions from multiple perspectives? [surprised pikachu face.png]

CRT is progressivism, aka wokeness. If you see someone arguing against white people or men because they are the supposed norm and calling them "oppressive", that's CRT/progressivism/wokeness.

Oh good might as well not listen at all and ignore any and all points. If someone has a problem with me I’ll just call them woke and never listen
