It's certainly more versatile than the Rolleiflex. After purchasing the C3 in 2022, practically the rest of my fixed-lens TLRs (Rolleiflex, Rolleicord, Yashica Mat etc) stay happily on drybox.

Love my rollei! I have a K4A; which model is yours? I just received a Kowa six and ruined two rolls of film confirming the winding gears on the body are jacked and it needed a CLA so don’t feel too bad 😂

@@codyallen3729 Mine is a 2.8C but actually I’ve been looking at the K4A, because it’s not as heavy and is another model Viviane Maier used. I also was interested in the Kowa! But so far haven’t had the guts to order one from Japan and see what shows up in the mail 😂 bummer about yours needing a CLA

@ well for the kowa it’s par for the course and once it’s back hopefully it’ll be worth it and solid for years to come! It’s a lot more affordable than a bronica and it’s interesting my early model is shaped like it is without a removable back…my K4A needed a cla after a few months of ownership as well but it’s been solid since. I was just looking at maloof’s book on maier this past weekend! 😅

@ In a lot of Maier’s most famous self portraits, it looks like she was using the K4A. I tested one out today and liked the simplicity, especially the shutter button 👍

@@quietamericanreed Yeah I know she used a T as well but I think there was also a 2.8 mixed in probably. What went wrong on mine was the CLA was needed when the film sensor got out of tune so it wasn't loading and winding film correctly for the frame counter just for reference. I updated my screen with one from Rick Oleson and got the bigger accessory focusing knob so it's like my minitature 2.8 model :)

I regularly use the C220. The reason I settled on the C220 is that it is the lightest of the Mamiya TLRs. I use it for travel, mostly, or when I want to take my medium format out. Yes, the great advantage is that the lenses are quite fixable....the disadvantage in my experience, is that they need fixing quite a lot. 😞 Still, a great camera to use.

I have had the C3, C220f, C330f and C330s. I have used the 55mm, 80mm, 105mm, 135mm, 180mm and 250mm lenses. My least favorite lens was the 250mm, it is just so large and awkward . All of the lenses are superb. I actually ended up selling all of my Mamiya TLR’s, kept the Rolleiflex Automat and 2.8D. I think my reason was that I have so much invested in the Rolleiflexes and use the 80mm mostly and the smaller size . The big advantage of the Mamiya TLR’s, cost less, interchangeable lenses and bellows which allow close focusing, easier to fix. With the Rolleiflex, if your lens and shutter goes, you have to send the entire camera in for repair. With the Mamiya, just send the lens in for repair, buy another lens or both. You can have multiple back up lenses and bodies.

Rollei 35 is one of the greatest cameras. Sadly it isn‘t perfect, which is. Quality of film transport is debatable, all R35 I used or had ate film, loved to eat film after a while. R35 if not Automatic is fiddly or pre-set to your liking. Don‘t drop it, it breaks easily (plastic, mechanics) and dent for sure (thin case). Repair is relevant in cost. What then? Whatever suits you! I loved Pentax Espio mini, I don‘t think the ML35 Minox is as good as the R35, I love the Barnack but it‘s U-Boat viewfinder and exposure time handling isn‘t for everyone. I use M4 and M11, but for most a great used M6ttl is what I suggest, aside from the espio mini (or it‘s market friends, yashica T2-5, olympus mu-ii, …) at low rates though only - plastic fantastic, no parts for repair, aside from other defect cameras or glueing stuff. 1. M6ttl 2. M4 3. Barnack, i.e. IIIF Or SLRs (SRT101, K1000, F2) and the best lenses, the lens makes the picture character with the film, the photographer only finds the motiv, the camera has almost nothing to do with the photo, other than to comfort physical and personal parameters. My travel kit: Film: M4, SLX50 pre-asph, HP5, nobag Digital: M11, NLS50f1.2, nobag Party: Instax Project: choice of M-, R-, m39- lenses and fitting camera for purpose (macro, surfing, birding, aurora, …) in a bag for transport and fixed installment at project site. Compact? What‘s not compact on an M? Use your phone, then, if the camera is a burden.

I think Leica stuck with the bottom loader out of pride and an appeal to people’s pretentiousness, i.e., they were too proud to be accused of copying Canon, and they probably thought that snobby folk could be fooled into believing that only peasants load film the common sense way. The fact is, that bottom-loading system may have been fine at a time when they were figuring things out, but it was just a plain stupid decision to have kept it.

Leicas are actually easy to load if you just follow the fine manual. Yes, face it, 100 % your own fault! And I'm saying this to myself while standing in front of mirror as I have been there too with my first Leica. Just stop making assumptions of how it should work, forget what you are doing with a swing-open-back camera and follow the manual and it's easier, faster and more elegant to load than any other system. I also enjoy a Canon VT and my SLRs but not because of the loading.

There are a lot of UA-camrs who try very hard to be funny, and they bomb every time. You, my good man, are a natural comedian. Haven't been this entertained in a while. Thank you for sharing. Question: when you originally purchased your Canon P, did it need any calibrating? I've heard the rangefinder can be knocked out of alignment quite easily, and the viewfinder may need adjustment depending on your vision. I'm not 20/20. I'm assuming you are. I'm not sure if this makes sense to you. I'm new to RFs, so any advice from you (or anyone watching this video) about the Canon P would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! 😉
