I have 4 xbox 360 devices and I want to play with your three friends via ethernet cable, which one is used for distribution, ethernet switch or ethernet hub
Hub(old tech) is not sold nowadays so buy switch. Instead you can try WAP devices

1.Yes, L3 switch works, where L2 won't 2. Because L3 switch is similar to the Router, 3. But, there are feature limitations in L3 switch when compared to the Router

Usually broadcast will do that but it's works within lan because we can't send packets to whole world. If you want to send packets to 10 pc at a time, we have to use layer 3 multicast switch and want to create multicast group and join 10 pc in that group and send packets to group and it will send packets to all 10 pc. For example, you can check multicast Microsoft WDS.

Hub always forward packets to all connected nodes. It's won't read packets.
